Well بكر is disputedly of Arabic origin. And yes, ديار is originally Arabic, but the fact of the matter is that the phrase travelled from Persia into Ottoman Turkey. The existence of the ezafe '-e' marks that the entire phrase must have come from Farsi, and the only reason the ezafe existed in the Ottoman Turkish Language was because it was borrowed from Farsi (it is not seen in other Altaic languages). Therefore, 'Diyaar-e Bekr' IS of Farsi origin (the phrase itself), and does not mean anything in Arabic. We can conclude, then, that the phrase is of Persian origin, though one of the words originally routes from Arabic. Cheers. -Bagrationi 9:46, 20 April 2007.

Cihanda Sulh

Would you be able to render Cihanda Sulh for me using the Ottoman Turkish alphabet? A friend of mine recently moved into a flat, in a building with the name Cihan Apartmanı, and I'd like to give him a calligraphic rendering of Cihanda Sulh to hang on the (still bare) walls. I think Cihan is جهان, but is Cihanda Sulh then جهاﻨﺪ صلح? Although not as embarassing as for a tattoo, it would be painful to go through the effort of creating nice calligraphy, only to find out the slogan contains a spelling error.  --Lambiam 21:45, 13 April 2010 (UTC)

Commas

If the division of the tone the picture below intends to show is the division of the tone into nine Holdrian commas (resp. an approximate division into nine Pythagorean commas)

then there are three mistakes in the picture as far as the use of the Western flat and sharp symbols are concerned.

Indeed contrary to what the picture shows the D♭ ("Ré bémol") is not equal to C♯ ("Do dièze") but is one comma flatter than the C♯ because in the Holdrian temperament (resp. in Pythagorean tuning) the chromatic semitone has (resp. has roughly) five commas whereas the diatonic semitone has (resp. has roughly) four commas. For the same reasons the D can't be equal to C but is (resp. is roughly) one comma flatter and the C can't be equal to D but is (resp. is roughly) one comma sharper.
