MIDAS[edit]

Please be clear about what MIDAS actually is. MIDAS controls the motorway variable-message signs (usually MS3 signals like this one). Also, gantry-mounted signs are activated - to show advisory speed limits. Note that MIDAS is not equivalent to Variable Speed Limits (called controlled motorways in official literature). VSL pre-dates the introduction of MIDAS by a few years on the M25 motorway. MIDAS is now integrated into the M25 and M42 controlled motorway schemes - but that does not make them equivalent. For information, MIDAS is now installed on much of the M25, M1, M6, M42, M56, M60, M62 and a few others - but only a small fraction (probably only about 40-50 km out of nearly 900 km where MIDAS is installed) have permanent speed cameras and mandatory speed limits.

If you don't agree with one or two bits of the information in a prior edit, please do not revert the entire article which removes all of the new information added. Richard B 19:58, 23 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

OK, I think i got the system confused with the one in use on the M25.

Boundary Commission reviews[edit]

Congrats to the user who has created new pages for the Boundary Commissions ongoing review of Parliamentary Constituencies, but remember they are only recommended by the Boundary Commission and not created by them.

The BC recommends the new seats to the Secretary of State for Constitutional Affairs (currently Lord Falconer), who has to agree them and then they go through the Parliamentary Process before being created.

For more see: http://www.statistics.gov.uk/pbc/downloads/bce_q&a.doc

Re: Boundary Commission Reviews[edit]

=) Thanks for the heads up on the reviews. I think I've touched every seat in the past few months! I know the seats are not created by the Comissions per se, but as I thought that was the best word I could think of in the context. Thanks for the message - I think there must be better phrasing but not sure what it could be doktorb | words 20:36, 7 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

League Against Cruel Sports[edit]

But the 'League' are still a bunch of animal bumming townies who know very little of the countryside and eccosystems they say they are trying to protect!
(I tend to agree, nontheless rvt to previous version.)

A sentiment without which Wikipedia would not be possible. Though I entirely disagree, bravo sir :-) — ciphergoth 22:23, 3 October 2006 (UTC)

Regeneration[edit]

Thanks for adding details into Hull article, it gives a starting point for others to expand on.

I recently picked up a 2 line stub someone had created on Princes Quay that I categorised & added an external link to. I wondered if you would not mind adding some details on Quay West to it rather than me just copy the bit from Hull article across there.

I will add link on Hull page when there is a bit more info in it to make it useful.

Keith D 10:32, 10 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I'm not sure the Princes Quay page is worthwhile - I've added the proposed deletion tag - add your thoughts on the talk page. I think it would all be better in the Kingston upon Hull page!! --TFoxton 16:06, 10 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Hi, I'll have a look at those - they could be useful as a Wikipedia Gallery on the Hull page or be added on the Wikimedia Commons site --TFoxton 22:44, 10 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Gatso[edit]

Nice bit of research. Thank you. TerriersFan 22:56, 28 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Cheers but I just built on what you wrote!! --TFoxton 23:02, 28 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Hi there - just to let you know that I nominated the picture you put up for featured picture status. I really like and think it meets all the criteria, so fingers crossed. ...adam... (talkcontributions) 22:40, 22 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Actually - if you could verify the licence that would be a great help to the process... see Wikipedia:Featured_picture_candidates/KC_Stadium_at_night if you're interested. ...adam... (talkcontributions) 22:43, 22 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hi. You seem to have sorted it. Completely agree it should be featured. Added support for it on the Wikipedia:Featured_picture_candidates/KC_Stadium_at_night page. --TFoxton 17:52, 23 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Yeah - decided to kill an afternoon making sure that the licence was cool - apparently all the pictures from the site are copyright free... Good call on the support - see how it goes. Cheers for that, ...adam... (talkcontributions) 18:28, 23 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I knew they were cos I worked for them, but I wasnt sure of the copyright licence, seems sorted though. Some strange objections put forward: see what happens anyway. --TFoxton 19:19, 23 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I wondered how you knew they were free - I had to email and ask. I've ever-so-slightly edited it - the only problem is where the main floodlight has blown - but I still think it looks good. I really like the picture. As I see, we'll see how it goes. ...adam... (talkcontributions) 19:23, 23 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Infobox Settlement[edit]

Just thought I'd let you know that I am still tweaking this infobox to accommodate different types of emblems. What I am going to do is to deprecate the citylogo fields and replace them with blank fields. I think that I have it, but I want to test it a little more. With 8,472 pages using this infobox it is best to be careful. —MJCdetroit 03:13, 30 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for letting me know. --TFoxton 10:59, 30 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Orphaned non-free media (Image:Magic1161.gif)[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:Magic1161.gif. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, it is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the media was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that all non-free media not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. BJBot (talk) 11:14, 3 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, this is a message from an automated bot. A tag has been placed on File:Bauer Verlagsgruppe logo.png, by another Wikipedia user, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. The tag claims that it should be speedily deleted because File:Bauer Verlagsgruppe logo.png is a duplicate of an already existing article, category or image.

To contest the tagging and request that administrators wait before possibly deleting File:Bauer Verlagsgruppe logo.png, please affix the template {{hangon}} to the page, and put a note on its talk page. If the article has already been deleted, see the advice and instructions at WP:WMD. Feel free to contact the bot operator if you have any questions about this or any problems with this bot, bearing in mind that this bot is only informing you of the nomination for speedy deletion; it does not perform any nominations or deletions itself. NowCommons: File:KC Stadium in day.jpg[edit]

File:KC Stadium in day.jpg is now available on Wikimedia Commons as Commons:File:KC Stadium in day.jpg. This is a repository of free media that can be used on all Wikimedia wikis. The image will be deleted from Wikipedia, but this doesn't mean it can't be used anymore. Disputed non-free use rationale for File:Highway code cover.jpg[edit]

Thank you for uploading File:Highway code cover.jpg. However, there is a concern that the rationale provided for using this file on Wikipedia may not meet the criteria required by Wikipedia:Non-free content. This can be corrected by going to the file description page and adding or clarifying the reason why the file qualifies under this policy. Adding and completing one of the templates available from Wikipedia:Non-free use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your file is in compliance with Wikipedia policy. Please be aware that a non-free use rationale is not the same as an image copyright tag; descriptions for files used under the non-free content policy require both a copyright tag and a non-free use rationale.

If it is determined that the file does not qualify under the non-free content policy, it might be deleted by an administrator within a few days in accordance with our criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions, please ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thank you. Sfan00 IMG (talk) 16:51, 16 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]

It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. If you wish to participate, you are welcome to review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page. A tag has been placed on Angie Greaves, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G11 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the page seems to be unambiguous advertising which only promotes a company, group, product, service, person, or point of view and would need to be fundamentally rewritten in order to become encyclopedic. Please read the guidelines on spam and Wikipedia:FAQ/Organizations for more information.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, and you wish to retrieve the deleted material for future reference or improvement, then please contact the deleting administrator.
