Bad links deletion[edit]

I've been working on the bad links section and I was wondering, do we want to continue to strike through the complete articles? Or can we delete the ones that have been done? Historical BC ridings in Okanagan[edit]

Hi. I saw your signup to the Electoral Districts project and that you're in the Okanagan and have volunteered for the Liberals; I guess I don't have to tell you to be wary of using Wikipedia for campaign purposes; contributions on the history of the riding and its social/ethnic/economic makeup would of course be welcome, as well as BALANCED profiles on current candidates. Needless to say most people around Wikipedia are partisan and necessarily so; people interested in information-generation/research are inherently opinionated and if they didn't have political opinions/positions there'd be "something wrong". Even arch-neutrality, like atheism, is a position/belief, after all. Anyway, that being said, I've just spent an interesting couple of weeks analyzing/transcribing the historical provincial ridings and some of the federal ones; and as a result there's candidate/MLA profiles all over the place that need doing. I've been able to do some in the area I know (Lillooet) but there's a whole long tradition in the Okanagan, and certain MLAs, that it looks like there should be articles on; e.g. Kenneth Cattanach MacDonald in North Okanagan or Thomas King in Columbia/Columbia-Revelstoke (I think that was his riding); anyway, I suspect you know a lot more about these guys than I ever could compile from reading up on the various histories I have around here; I've been having the darnedest time with the 19th Century politicians as it is (and we think our system NOW is a mess...); and can also hopefully contribute something on the "political culture" of the Okanagan and its (supposed, according to academia) roots in the British orcharding/ranching gentry of the early 20th Century. My profiles of John Andrew Mara and Forbes George Vernon were "winged" based on Canadian Biography Online and could use some dressing up; I know Mara has quite the history, and a sensational divorce too IIRC....or was it an open mistress?

Template:CanElec1[edit]

More information is always a good thing, but adding empty columns to hundreds of tables is less useful. Thus the best idea is to create new tempaltes, and a user who wants to add more information can easily switch from the basic to CanElec1 to an expanded version. There already exists Template:CanElec2 and Template:CanElec3, which are both somewhat larger versions of CanElec1. - SimonP 00:31, 3 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

CanElec4 is good, keeping the names similar makes it very easy to switch from one template to the other. Easy switching also means that the data has to be arranged in the same manner, so that a switch from CanElec1 to CanElec4 will simply add extra columns, and not scramble the information. Your templates also look very good, with a better colour scheme than the existing ones. It's a good idea to keep the style of each election template the same, so you if you do implement your ideas it might be a good idea to change the colour scheme of the existing three templates as well. - SimonP 00:44, 3 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]
