Feel free to revert any vandalism, spam, etc on this page... It saves me the trouble of having to do it myself

Welcome to Wikipedia![edit]

Hello Gershwinrb, welcome to Wikipedia!

Here are some tips:

If you feel a change is needed, feel free to make it yourself! Wikipedia is a wiki, so anyone (yourself included) can edit any article by following the Edit this page link. Wikipedia convention is to be bold and not be afraid of making mistakes. If you're not sure how editing works, have a look at How to edit a page, or try out the Sandbox to test your editing skills.

If, for some reason, you are unable to fix a problem yourself, feel free to ask someone else to do it. Wikipedia has a vibrant community of contributors who have a wide range of skills and specialties, and many of them would be glad to help. As well as the wiki community pages there are IRC Channels, where you are more than welcome to ask for assistance.

If you have any questions, feel free to ask me on my talk page. Thanks and happy editing, Alphax τεχ 07:35, 15 May 2005 (UTC)[reply]

From a friend[edit]

Happy new year Ben. I'm sure you were probably surprised to find out that I am here. I also have been using this site to procrastinate when I am supposed to be doing homework. From your contributions you seem to be doing good work here. How do you like Santa Barbara? I have been doing very well at school. Well, talk to you later. Porthmadog[edit]

HELLO Yes these white spaces are an irritation Please tell me why you have reverted a perfectly correct deletion of Porthmadog (pronounced Port Madock) - its not. The old Portmadoc was pronounced Portmadoc. The new Porthmadog is pronouced Porthmadog. It really is that simple for once. Sincerely, NoelWalley 22:27, 31 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

HELLO again, sorry, I too was rushing. First I was experimenting to get rid of the white space - always caused by the position of "images" and in your case it is the "babel cachet" that is causing it and I moved it nearer the bottom - but I don't know a permanent solution either. Then I forgot it was not your talk page that I was on. Further to Porthmadog the pronunciation thingy seems to have been slipped in by an anon in mid-December. Ianmacm[edit]

Hi Gershwinrb, thanks for your comments on my edits to the entry on the Amityville Horror. If you have enjoyed this page, please take a look at the Wikipedia entry on Lobsang Rampa which has also undergone a recent rewrite by me. Best wishes, Ian.

List of publications in chemistry[edit]

Thanks for your three new entries. Following out guidelines I have put them up for debate on the talk page and, in each case, recommended that we keep them. They are three great historical contributions. --Bduke 09:53, 10 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I did not think that you thought the page was for old stuff. I thought some readers might, as we have had a few old entries recently. --Bduke 10:52, 10 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Santa Barbara Meetup[edit]

Hello Gershwinrb. Since you're listed in the Wikipedians from UCSB category, I thought you might be interested in the Santa Barbara Wikipedia Meetup on Saturday 8 April. Please see that page for details. I hope to meet you there! Angela. 10:20, 2 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for catching that. What happened was that I uploaded a larger version of the image, but I didn't realize that it wasn't thumbnailed already, so a 500px image got turned into this big humungous one. Now I've fixed it so that it appears correctly. Thanks again. howcheng {chat} 06:14, 8 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Restored messages[edit]

Gershwinrb,

I reverted some messages from an anonymous user (User:212.253.219.43) because they removed other people's messages to you. You can see the changes he made here. Just thought I'd give you a heads up. EWS23 | (Leave me a message!) 20:05, 1 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

A bored kid doing a report[edit]

NPOV criticism[edit]

Mainly the list of critics; it seems very opinionated for one to make a list of critics that are noteworthy. If there's a certain criteria, perhaps it should be explained.Ohyeahmormons 03:59, 13 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Welcome to VandalProof![edit]

Thank you for your interest in VandalProof, Gershwinrb! You have now been added to the list of authorized users, so if you haven't already, simply download and install VandalProof from our main page. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me or any other moderator, or you can post a message on the discussion page. Prodego talk 02:14, 23 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

It might be a good idea to remove that Example.jpg from your userpage. The list of pages using that image is way to long already, so it is harly possibly to find vandalism with that one anymore - in contrast to [[Image:Example.ogg]] which stays nearly empty. If you want to have a quick link to see that list of pages which use example.jpg, simply use [[:Image:Example.jpg]]. andy

Hi...On the Lil Kim page all I did was delete the word "To" because there was no sentence after it. I did nothing wrong and nothing malicious.

I pulled {{NPOV}} from the article after extensive changes because I thought the tone was returned to neutral. I just thought I'd tip you off in case you're still not happy with it. --CalculatinAvatar 04:27, 3 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

have a star[edit]

For music related contributions I hereby present Gershwinrb the Wikipedia Music Award.Rosa 04:42, 15 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

¡Hola! I just stumbled upon the article you expanded on Mily Balakirev and at your page saw you also contributed to Islamey and the Baldwin Piano Co. It's all nice and informative...you have just scored yourself a star. ;)Rosa 04:42, 15 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

BTW, did Balakirev really had a parrot named Boris? LOL Rosa 04:43, 15 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Giant squid picture[edit]

I must shamefully confess that I added the picture myself. I drew it today when I was bored and just couldn't resist putting it up here. ;) You were right to remove it, though.

Also, thanks for alerting me about other vandalism done with my account. My brother messed around with my account when I was home recently, and that's probably what you saw—I ought to be more careful about logging out.PenguinJockey 04:41, 27 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, Gershwinrb. An automated process has found and removed an image or media file tagged as nonfree media, and thus is being used under fair use that was in your userspace. The image (Image:Cthulhupainting.jpg) was found at the following location: User:Gershwinrb. This image or media was attempted to be removed per criterion number 9 of our non-free content policy. The image or media was replaced with Image:NonFreeImageRemoved.svg , so your formatting of your userpage should be fine. Please find a free image or media to replace it with, and or remove the image from your userspace. User:Gnome (Bot)-talk 23:17, 15 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Image copyright problem with Image:Balakirev islamey.jpg[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:Balakirev islamey.jpg. You've indicated that the image is being used under a claim of fair use, but you have not provided an adequate explanation for why it meets Wikipedia's requirements for such images. In particular, for each page the image is used on, the image must have an explanation linking to that page which explains why it needs to be used on that page. Can you please check

  • That there is a non-free use rationale on the image's description page for each article the image is used in.
  • That every article it is used on is linked to from its description page.

This is an automated notice by FairuseBot. For assistance on the image use policy, see Wikipedia:Media copyright questions. --14:34, 12 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Orphaned non-free media (Image:AmityvilleHorrorCover.jpg)[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:AmityvilleHorrorCover.jpg. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, it is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the media was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that all non-free media not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. BJBot (talk) 05:22, 27 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Hi,
You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. If you wish to participate, you are welcome to review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page.
