Hello and Welcome! I hope you like the place. --mav

External links don't really need to be at the end of the article if it makes it confusing like it did in the Devanagari article. LittleDan 21:59 1 Jun 2003 (UTC)

Why you want me don't put each interwiki link on a new line ? It's the easiest way to manage them (to copy and paste them with other articles). With a space, it's uneasy to handle. If you think the links take to much space, just put them at the end of the article (perhaps with a comment). Traroth 14:14, 23 Sep 2003 (UTC)

On capital/lower case L in "External links", it's not a big deal, obviously, but see the Wikipedia:Manual of Style, where it says "Capitalize the first word and any proper nouns in headlines, but leave the rest lower case." If the majority of articles really do have "Links" with a captial L, then the majority of articles are at fault. There's really no reason to use a "down style" in article titles (as we do), but then capitalise headings within articles. --Camembert

OK, so you don't like the manual of style. That's OK, but it's the only advice we have on questions like capitalisation and so on, and I think it's fair to assume that quite a few people follow the advice there, even if you don't. While you don't have to follow its advice, I don't see the point in actively ignoring it - that's just going to put you in conflict with the people who do take heed of it, and isn't going to result in any sort of consistency - far from it. Capitalising headings within articles makes no sense - we do not capitalise article titles (unless they contain proper nouns, of course), and there's no reason to handle headings within articles any differently. If I really thought that the "vast majority" of articles, as you say, capitalised headings, then I might agree that for the sake of consistency it would be best to go that way - but I simply don't think the "vast majority", or even the majority, do have headings in upper case. By the way - you say the Manual of Style is contradictory - could you point out where, please, and I'll fix it. --Camembert

Sorry, this would appear to be incorrect. It is absolutely inconsequential what the Russians called it (apparently Kiyev) or what Ukranians call it (apparently Kyyiv), as this is the English Wikipedia, and it needs to be listed under the name by which it is known in English. Period. I will be moving it back. - Hephaestos 03:04, 4 Nov 2003 (UTC)

Don't redirect Kiev back to Kyiv again. This is the English Wikipedia, not the Ukrainian one. I don't care what you call it in Ukraine, but this is English. Leave it alone. RickK 03:16, 4 Nov 2003 (UTC)

Unverified images[edit]

Hi! Thanks for uploading the following image:

I notice it currently doesn't have an image copyright tag. Could you add one to let us know its copyright status? (You can use gfdl if you release it under the GNU Free Documentation License, fairuse if you claim fair use, etc.) If you don't know what any of this means, just let me know at my talk page where you got the images and I'll tag them for you. Thanks so much. Peter O. (Talk, automation script) 22:17, Dec 10, 2004 (UTC)

P.S. You can help tag other images at User:Yann/Untagged_Images. Thanks again.

Article Licensing[edit]

Hi, I've started a drive to get users to multi-license all of their contributions that they've made to either (1) all U.S. state, county, and city articles or (2) all articles, using the Creative Commons Attribution-Share Alike (CC-by-sa) v1.0 and v2.0 Licenses or into the public domain if they prefer. The CC-by-sa license is a true free documentation license that is similar to Wikipedia's license, the GFDL, but it allows other projects, such as WikiTravel, to use our articles. Since you are among the top 2000 Wikipedians by edits, I was wondering if you would be willing to multi-license all of your contributions or at minimum those on the geographic articles. Over 90% of people asked have agreed. For More Information:

To allow us to track those users who muli-license their contributions, many users copy and paste the "DualLicenseWithCC-BySA-Dual" template into their user page, but there are other options at Template messages/User namespace. The following examples could also copied and pasted into your user page:

Option 1
I agree to multi-license all my contributions, with the exception of my user pages, as described below:
DualLicenseWithCC-BySA-Dual

OR

Option 2
I agree to multi-license all my contributions to any U.S. state, county, or city article as described below:
DualLicenseWithCC-BySA-Dual

Or if you wanted to place your work into the public domain, you could replace "DualLicenseWithCC-BySA-Dual" with "MultiLicensePD". If you only prefer using the GFDL, I would like to know that too. Please let me know what you think at my talk page. It's important to know either way so no one keeps asking. -- Ram-Man (comment| talk)

I'm interested. (See my comments at Talk:Bill Bryson). I think he's a sloppy writer and should be known as such. Mind you, I wouldn't be able to help much. I know he couldn't tell a marsupial from a monotreme... --Singkong2005 09:06, 19 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Move to Kyiv[edit]

Hello,

I am trying to change the name of the page Kiev to Kyiv. Looking through the archives, I saw that you had contributed to a similar discussion in the past.

The current discussion is happening at: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Talk:Kiev/naming

Please let us know what you think.

Thanks,

Unreferenced BLPs[edit]

Hello Kricxjo! Thank you for your contributions. I am a bot alerting you that 3 of the articles that you created are Unreferenced Biographies of Living Persons. Please note that all biographies of living persons must be sourced. If you were to add reliable, secondary sources to these articles, it would greatly help us with the current 951 article backlog. Once the articles are adequately referenced, please remove the unreferencedBLP tag. Here is the list:

Hi,
You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. If you wish to participate, you are welcome to review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page.
