Thanks a lot for that picture of the terracotta army--and for including proper identifying information on it. We really appreciate it. Not only that, but it's high quality work. Anyway, here are a few tips in case you need help editing:

Good luck, and I hope you enjoy it here. Best wishes, [[User:Meelar|Meelar (talk)]] 13:17, 24 Jun 2004 (UTC)

Copyright question[edit]

Hi! I've just put up a question on Talk:Shibaozhai - am trying to establish a provenance for the article, and your comments would be much appreciated! Ziggurat 23:27, September 6, 2005 (UTC)

AIV vs VIP[edit]

Hi Richardelainechambers. I noticed you added an entry to Vandalism in Progress. That page is only for very specific cases, as described by the page's guidelines. Your alert would be better placed on Administrator intervention against vandalism (WP:AIV), where it will usually be processed within minutes. Many alerts that are incorrectly placed on Vandalism in Progress are never dealt with, simply because they become old before an administrator gets to them. Thanks for your efforts. :) --lightdarkness (talk) 01:14, 20 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Z-Score: Population vs. Sample[edit]

"A key point is that calculating z requires the population mean and the population standard deviation, not the sample mean or sample deviation. It requires knowing the population parameters, not the statistics of a sample drawn from the population of interest."

I asked my professor (Ph.D Electrical Eng.) about this and he says you can use ether type. Can you provide clarification or a reference source? Thanks.

The hope is that the sample mean and sample deviation is sufficiently close to the population mean and population standard deviation that the two are interchangeable. However there is a probability that a particular sample mean and sample deviation is sufficently different from the population mean and population standard deviation that using the sample measurements will cause statistical errors. Remember that a sample is a part or subset of the population and depending on how the sample is selected from the population it may or may not have statistical characteristics that are similar to the population characteristics.
