Copyedit notices[edit]

Hi, i noticed that whenever i put up a copyedit or clean up notice on one of the articles you contributed you "deleted" everything. Please understand that such notices are not meant to be offensive towards the writer(s) of the article. They merely call for attention from other users to improve the article collectively, whether content-wise or language-wise.

i personally think the article on Tea Classics is very comprehensive. However, it does not conform to Wikipedia standards and is rather messy to read. That was why i put up the wikify and clean up notices.

As for Wang Tao, there were many grammatical and spelling errors. i didn't have time to copyedit the article myself, which was why i put up the copyedit notice to call for attention from many Wikipedians out there who had the time and expertise (some Wikipedians are dedicated to copyediting articles).

i hope this clears things up a little. --Plastictv 29 June 2005 01:19 (UTC)

Chop Suey[edit]

Hi, I like your contribs, but I've read the website references you added. The stories contradict each other, and some do not attribute the origins of Chop Suey to the Chinese diplomat. Please, let us address the conflict here: Talk:Chop_suey. Also, I've added a few points which seem to discredit the story of the diplomat. Thanks--Muchosucko 02:48, 15 July 2005 (UTC)[reply]

The most important point, dont forget, is Chop Suey was Chinese Restaurant invention, not Amenian as you suggested Gisling 02:51, 15 July 2005 (UTC)[reply]

I'm afraid, you can't simply muscle through your point. We must debate it out. Again, I've added an exhaustive reason for my reversions. Please don't insult me by simply ignoring them. I have not ignored your contribs, please don't ignore mine.--Muchosucko 02:53, 15 July 2005 (UTC)[reply]
Please stop this, I have tried very hard to explain why I think these edits are unacceptable and corrupt the integrity of the article. Please responD to my concerns on the talk page. I have paid attention to every single one of your references and they simply contradict each other. Please let us begin a debate instead of a revert war. Please, say something on the talk page. Again Wiki must be a collaboration, not a brute force attempt. Thanks. --Muchosucko 02:57, 15 July 2005 (UTC)[reply]

The earlist restaurant serving Chop Suey was Hong Far Low(meaning Red Flower Restaurant) in Boston in 1880's. There is a Hong Far Low Chop Suey menu on display at the "Chinese restaurant in America" Exhibition in Museum of Chinese in the Americas in New York. This 125 years old Chop Suey menu clearly proves beyong any doubt that Chop Suey was Chinese restaurant invention. You have absolute no evidence whatsovever to prove otherwise. Gisling 02:53, 15 July 2005 (UTC)

Thanks for replying. Please go to Talk:Chop suey for my response.--Muchosucko 03:11, 15 July 2005 (UTC)[reply]
Gisling, Please stop ignoring my repeated explainations of my reversions. I've spent a lot of time reading and thinking about what you've written. You have simply ignored my hard work and analysis of your writing. I do not ignore your contributions. Indeed, I spend a lot of time researching them. Please respond to my concerns here. I have now written pages and pages of reasons why I think your contributions do not help the article. Please respond. Please. Please go to Talk:Chop suey --Muchosucko 15:04, 15 July 2005 (UTC)[reply]
Gisling, it is customary to hammer these things out on the talk page. Agian, I have worked hard on the reasons why I removed some of what you added. This is not personal. I truly think these things hurt the article. Please stop ignoring what I have written. I truly believe Wiki is collaborative, and that we must compromise and discuss. Please stop bluntly reverting. Please. My reasons are listed in detail here talk:chop suey--Muchosucko 15:30, 15 July 2005 (UTC)[reply]
Gisling, I've noticed you keep adding things to the article. It is customary to discuss controversial edits on the Talk page, reach a consensus, and then add a mutually agreed upon version onto the front page. This is a collaboration. Please understand my arguments on the talk page, and let us leave the main page as it was before your additions. Thanks. Please argue it out on the talk page, not the article page. Thanks. talk:chop suey --Muchosucko 15:41, 15 July 2005 (UTC)[reply]
Gisling, please stop muscling through your additions. Instead, it is customary to go to talk:chop suey and discuss these things. You do not strenghten your argument by reverting here. Instead, you might be best served by explaining your additions with concise arguments. I have continually replied to your contributions on the talk page. Please do the same for mine. Please discuss here talk:chop suey--Muchosucko 15:55, 15 July 2005 (UTC)[reply]
Gisling, I don't think you help your argument by doing this.--Muchosucko 16:07, 15 July 2005 (UTC)[reply]
Gisling, You damage your position by doing this, You are much better off explaining in a calm, collected way on the talk page as I have. You won't convince me your contributions work by aggressively adding them. --Muchosucko 16:14, 15 July 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Tea Classics[edit]

Hi Gisling-

I wanted to give you a heads up about the change I made on Tea Classics. I don't think that the mythology of Shen Nong is authoratative as a source of tea, just as he is not the authoritative source of animal husbandry. If you have any concerns about this, let's work them out them out together on the Talk:Tea Classics. Thanks S.N. Hillbrand 02:13, 15 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Wikimedia Canada[edit]

I don't think it is a good idea to establish a Wikimedia Canada chapter, it only serves to fragmentize en:wikipedia. Currently there is only one English language en:wikipedia with nearly one million entries. There are many English speaking countries, England, USA, New Zealand, Australia, Singapore, Canada etc. There is no US:Wikipedia nor Au:wikipedia why need a CA:wikipedia ??

One can find all about Canada in en:wikipedia. If you put Canadian related articles in ca:wikepedia, the net result will be far less people reading these article. Gisling 19:19, 16 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I'm afraid you're slightly mistaken about Wikimedia Canada's (WMC) purpose. These are a few points about WMC's planned operations.
  1. In the last donation drive, CDN$11,473.05 was donated by our nation. None of that was tax-deductable, as it was donated to an American charity. People donating within Canada will now be able to get tax receipts.
  2. We'll be able to better organize programs to encourage the development of Wikipedia/Wikisource/Wiktionary in native languages that are loosing ground in an Anglocentric world.
  3. We'll organize meetups, to encourage the community aspect of the project.
  4. It becomes easier to plan representation at local events or conferences.
  5. Increased voice on matters presented to the board.
  6. Start projects to encourage new Canadian content. Encourage local historical groups, museums, town councils, boards of trade to add local info.
  7. Within the projects, increase Canadian content in internationally relevant articles.
  8. Occasionally take up moderate political causes that benefit the Wikimedia Foundation, such as loosening Crown copyright.
While we will have a website for WMC, it will only be to organize these activities, not create a seperate resource. Also, we are out to promote Canada not only in English Wikimedia projects, but also French, and to a lesser extent native languages or any other language. -- user:zanimum

I was thinking the same thing, I was just made a donation to WM but I really would like to be able to deduct it. I'd be in favour of a Canadian Chapter. Tawker 03:56, 21 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Image copyright problem with Image:Tastingtea.jpg[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:Tastingtea.jpg. However, the image may soon be deleted unless we can determine the copyright holder and copyright status. The Wikimedia Foundation is very careful about the images included in Wikipedia because of copyright law (see Wikipedia's Copyright policy).

The copyright holder is usually the creator, the creator's employer, or the last person who was transferred ownership rights. Copyright information on images is signified using copyright templates. The three basic license types on Wikipedia are open content, public domain, and fair use. Find the appropriate template in Wikipedia:Image copyright tags and place it on the image page like this: {{TemplateName}}.

Please signify the copyright information on any other images you have uploaded or will upload. Remember that images without this important information can be deleted by an administrator. If you have any questions, feel free to contact me. Thank you. BRossow 19:09, 24 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Warning sign
This media may be deleted.

Thanks for uploading Image:Teautensils.jpg. I notice the 'image' page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is therefore unclear. If you have not created this media yourself then you need to argue that we have the right to use the media on Wikipedia (see copyright tagging below). If you have not created the media yourself then you should also specify where you found it, i.e., in most cases link to the website where you got it, and the terms of use for content from that page.

If the media also doesn't have a copyright tag then you must also add one. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then you can use {{GFDL-self}} to release it under the GFDL. If you believe the media qualifies as fair use, please read fair use, and then use a tag such as {{Non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair_use. See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other media, please check that you have specified their source and copyright tagged them, too. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any unsourced and untagged images will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. Finch Bus Terminal[edit]

I noticed you moved Finch Bus Terminal by adding GO to the name of the article. Because you have made no other changes to related articles or templates, I consider this frivolous and have moved it back. Although there might be some validity to making this move, the terminal is one of a group which all have the same naming convention. Further disambiguation is not necessary as the nearby subway station is suffixed with TTC. If you feel that the GO Bus Terminals shoud be renamed please start a discussion at the Talk:GO Transit page; where you will see that there has already been a lot of work put into naming GO Stations. YOU must be willing to edit ALL related articles and redirects. If you can't do the time; don't do the crime. -Secondarywaltz (talk) 16:52, 14 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

ooooops[edit]

The Indonesian Project EN - prides itself on being able to spot a dubious reference from a mile off as we are flooded with edits without a cite or ref in sight - however your refs are close to problematic - they are not possibly WP:V or any sign of being WP:RS as you are applying them :) - so there might need to be some form of negotiation over your edits to Surabaya and Pekalongan - as they stand they produce more questions than answers SatuSuro 13:05, 3 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you - however there re still other items we might have to check later - please note that the WP EN Indonesia project has large amounts of uncited and very dubious edits - any help that you can provide in offering fully WP:V WP:RS that help article with WP:N are appreciated - thanks SatuSuro 13:27, 3 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

One small problem - the Indonesian project was almost a 1421/1434 free zone until your edits for Surabaya - dont be suprised if other editors revert your edits with some fervour and passion SatuSuro 13:31, 3 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I quoted Ma Huan not Menzies. Ma Huan's book is the most authentic book about Zheng He's voyage, it was fully translated into English. It was a fact of history, that many Chinese travellers from Tang dynasty thru Ming dynasty visited Indonesia--Gisling (talk) 13:38, 3 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Fact in relation to any history of indonesia prior to various dates is one whole separate issue - I am not debating chinese visits - why there is a whole school of thought that freaks out xenophobic javanese muslims that their islamic origins were via chinese origins - as long as your are aware that the menzies issue is not one that we want in the indonesian project just yet :) - my apologies for misinterpreting your edit - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mongol_invasion_of_Java might give you an idea of some of the issues - that i have responded to rightly or wrongly - there are some javanese sources for that suprisingly enough SatuSuro 13:47, 3 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Hi[edit]

Hey Gisling, how's it going.

I would ask that, with any new material that you add to Architecture of the Song Dynasty, you should always cite the sources you use. Especially when creating whole new sections. It's impossible for me or others to determine where you got this information (a book? website? article? journal? database? etc.) Please consider, since it is a GA (Good Article).--Pericles of AthensTalk 02:47, 9 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks! Although I'd like it if you'd have something to say here in response. Not a word? Ok. Take care.--Pericles of AthensTalk 02:53, 9 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

You probably refers to the paragraph about Song city and Palace. I have the two Song dynasty souces at hand, 1)孟元老 东京梦华录 2) 吴自牧 梦梁录. As far as I known, there is no English translation of both (There is a recent Japanese translation of 1).

Decimal[edit]

Hi Gisling, I agree with your comment at Decimal. However, I suggest that, instead of replacing the Indian section, you write a separate Chinese section. Rather than making "priority" claims, the most objective procedure would be to provide specific dates. The reader should be intelligent enough to figure out for himself who was first. much eager to learn about what important evidences supporting Indian origin ? This question was raised more than one hundred years ago by Indian mathematician G.R. I have marked you as a reviewer[edit]

I have added the "reviewers" property to your user account. This property is related to the Pending changes system that is currently being tried. This system loosens page protection by allowing anonymous users to make "pending" changes which don't become "live" until they're "reviewed". However, logged-in users always see the very latest version of each page with no delay. A good explanation of the system is given in this image. The system is only being used for pages that would otherwise be protected from editing.

If there are "pending" (unreviewed) edits for a page, they will be apparent in a page's history screen; you do not have to go looking for them. There is, however, a list of all articles with changes awaiting review at Special:OldReviewedPages. Because there are so few pages in the trial so far, the latter list is almost always empty. The list of all pages in the pending review system is at Special:StablePages.

To use the system, you can simply edit the page as you normally would, but you should also mark the latest revision as "reviewed" if you have looked at it to ensure it isn't problematic. Edits should generally be accepted if you wouldn't undo them in normal editing: they don't have obvious vandalism, personal attacks, etc. If an edit is problematic, you can fix it by editing or undoing it, just like normal. You are permitted to mark your own changes as reviewed.

The "reviewers" property does not obligate you to do any additional work, and if you like you can simply ignore it. The expectation is that many users will have this property, so that they can review pending revisions in the course of normal editing. However, if you explicitly want to decline the "reviewer" property, you may ask any administrator to remove it for you at any time. — Carl (CBM · talk) 12:33, 18 June 2010 (UTC) — Carl (CBM · talk) 12:54, 18 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Fair use rationale for File:Compayofbirds.jpg[edit]

Thanks for uploading or contributing to File:Compayofbirds.jpg. I notice the file page specifies that the file is being used under fair use but there is not a suitable explanation or rationale as to why each specific use in Wikipedia constitutes fair use. Please go to the file description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'file' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "File" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free media lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

A tag has been placed on Jigu Suanjing requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A3 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because it is an article with no content whatsoever, or whose contents consist only of external links, a "See also" section, book references, category tags, template tags, interwiki links, a rephrasing of the title, or an attempt to contact the subject of the article. Please see Wikipedia:Stub for our minimum information standards for short articles. Also please note that articles must be on notable subjects and should provide references to reliable sources that verify their content.

If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hang on}} to the top of the page that has been nominated for deletion (just below the existing speedy deletion, or "db", tag; if no such tag exists, then the page is no longer a speedy delete candidate and adding a hang-on tag is unnecessary), coupled with adding a note on the talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the page meets the criterion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the page that would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, you can contact one of these administrators to request that the administrator userfy the page or email a copy to you. Edit summaries on Equal Temperament[edit]

Hi, I noticed you've been doing some extensive work on the Equal Temperament page. The edits look great to me, but since you have so many edits back-to-back, adding a few words on each edit summary would really help other users to get up to speed on what's been changing on the article. That's just a polite request, edit summaries are entirely optional. Anyway, thanks for the constructive edits! —Mu Mind (talk) 11:13, 2 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Architecture of the Song Dynasty[edit]

Hi there. In December of 2008 you added to the article Architecture of the Song Dynasty the source "Li Jie/ Liang Sicheng p46". NickDupree and I are trying to get that article relisted for GA, but we can't find that book. If you could give us the title and ISBN of the source you used, we would be able to get everything in Harvard citations, which is the gold standard on Wikipedia. We also have to get rid of the 'ibid' citations, and replace them with full detail citations, so having someone around who wrote the article and knows it better than we do would be ideal.

The full list of four things needed to get the article to GA status is at Talk:Architecture of the Song Dynasty if you're interested. It includes two {{cn}} tags and a section that needs work, as well as the citation rework and a copyedit.

Please contact me, even if you can't help, if only so I know how best to proceed. Sven Manguard Wha? 05:53, 22 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]

P.S. When this regains GA, the Song Dynasty regains Featured Topic status.

    • Sorry to respond late, I don't come to en:wiki often.

The Li Jie/Liang Sicheng p46 I refered to is

梁思成 营造法式注释 , 梁思成全集 第七卷 中国建筑出版社 ISBN 7-112-04431-6. This 500+ pages work covers the whole vol 7 of Complete Works of Liang Sicheng, it is the most authentic section by section annotation( not translation) of Li Jie's Yingzao Fashi, a must read reference to any one seriously interested in Yingzao Fashi. I have Liang edtion, Tao edition and Siku Quanshu edition of Yingzao Fashi in my library--Gisling (talk) 04:46, 15 November 2011 (UTC).[reply]

Notification[edit]

Hello. There is an incidence on Wikipedia:Administrators' noticeboard/Edit warring in which you might be involved. Gun Powder Ma (talk) 19:06, 23 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]

June 2011[edit]

You currently appear to be engaged in an edit war according to the reverts you have made on Decimal. Users are expected to collaborate with others and avoid editing disruptively.

In particular, the three-revert rule states that:

  1. Making more than three reversions on a single page within a 24-hour period is almost always grounds for an immediate block.
  2. Do not edit war even if you believe you are right.

If you find yourself in an editing dispute, use the article's talk page to discuss controversial changes; work towards a version that represents consensus among editors. You can post a request for help at an appropriate noticeboard or seek dispute resolution. In some cases it may be appropriate to request temporary page protection. If you continue to edit war, you may be blocked from editing without further notice. You're far past the 3RR line at the moment, but I'm giving you one last chance to back off and stop the edit warring and insults. SarekOfVulcan (talk) 19:17, 23 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]

    • I believe the article Decimal should be put under temporary protection, to prevent disruptive editing. This article was quite stable

for long period of time until User:Gun Powder Ma shows up, by massive deletion of other people's contribution without prior discussion. --Gisling (talk) 19:24, 23 June 2011 (UTC).[reply]

You have been reverting against four users, demonstrating an evident failure to understand the fundamental difference between a decimal and a positional system. You even do not realize that traditional Chinese numerals are non-positional, even though this is self-evident. So, again, how can one-digit characters like 十 (10), 百 (100) and 千 (1000) be positional? Gun Powder Ma (talk) 20:30, 23 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Three-revert warning[edit]

You currently appear to be engaged in an edit war according to the reverts you have made on Chop suey. Users are expected to collaborate with others and avoid editing disruptively.

Chop suey[edit]

Gisling, you did a blanket revert of my edits. If you look carefully, you see that I did not bulk-delete Asugar2's contributions. I removed the (massive) redundancies and the poorly-sourced and wordy material, and summarized his drunken-miner story. Much of what he added was not specific to chop suey, but talked about Chinese-American cuisine in general. And it was all written in very poor English. Could you please restore my edits? Thanks, --Macrakis (talk) 14:06, 7 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Actually, User:Future Perfect at Sunrise already undid them, because they were copyright violations. I don't know how xe came to that conclusion for sure, but it does seem likely to me because the tone of that writing is very much like a travel book or blog, and thus I would not be surprised to find it came from elsewhere. As a side note, Gisling, it's not actually true that we can't do "bulk deletions". When someone adds new information to an article, and others question it, they are not required to tag it first and wait for some indefinite time for the person to return and clean it up. They can do so, if they believe the basic info is good and worth keeping, but that massive addition was completely wrong for the article, and, even if it weren't a copy-vio, would require so much massive changes that it's not worth keeping and cleaning up. Qwyrxian (talk) 00:07, 8 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Searching for a few sentence fragments turned up a couple of blogs - the original editor lifted entire paragraphs from them verbatim, which is obviously inappropriate. --McGeddon (talk) 12:58, 11 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]
If you re-add that information, I will request that you be blocked for intentional, repeated copyright violations. You have to understand--you cannot just copy and paste information from other sites on to Wikipedia, as that has very serious negative consequences for the organization. Qwyrxian (talk) 13:29, 11 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I gave you a couple of plagiarised links above - a third blog is at crazyhorsesghost.hubpages.com/hub/Eat-Drink-And-Be-Merry (which I can't link to directly because the domain is blacklisted). User:Asugar2 seems to have just lifted these paragraphs with only minor changes to their framing (such as changing "I spent the weekend reading my friend Jenny Lee’s new book" to "In Jenny Lee’s new book"). These blog entries may well lead to some fine, reliable sources, but we shouldn't be copy-and-pasting these bloggers' exact words without their permission. --McGeddon (talk) 18:16, 11 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]

ANI Notice[edit]

Hello. This message is being sent to inform you that there is currently a discussion at Wikipedia:Administrators' noticeboard/Incidents regarding an issue with which you may have been involved. The thread is Repeated insertion of copyrighted material and harassment. Thank you. Qwyrxian (talk) 23:14, 11 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Please note[edit]

Having reviewed your edits and the discussion linked above, it is clear that you are restoring material to the chop suey article that violates Wikipedia's WP:COPYVIO policy. Any further restoration of this material by you will result in your being temporarily blocked from editing. Further edit-warring on that article may also result in similar action.

Your aparently arbitrary reverts of other editors (diff, diff) must also stop. -- The Anome (talk) 23:22, 11 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Please note this also[edit]

If you continue to stalk User:Macrakis, you will be blocked for harassment. Thank you. Drmies (talk) 01:58, 12 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Image warring[edit]

There's now a three way edit war over the images in the article. It would have been one thing if this all happened before the article became a GA, and I invited you to participate in that process (you never responded), but now that it's a GA, we need stability. I'm just going to revert everything that happened today and start a new thread, where the three of us can discuss any image issues, then make one big change once everything is decided. Does that work? Sven Manguard Wha? 04:07, 15 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]

  • We cannot permit factual error in the name of stability.
    • Bring the errors up on the talk page. We can sort it out quickly there, but we really need to talk it out, instead of just reverting one another. Sven Manguard Wha? 08:11, 15 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]

There are two issues here: 1) what is strictly Song dynasty architecture ? Should this article include Liao dynasty or Jin dynasty architecture as well ? IMO, we should not. Also, if a pagoda was built in Song dynasty, then renovated at later dynasties, it is a Song tower, on the other hand if completely rebuilt after Song dynasty, it should NOT be be classified as a Song dynasty tower.

No, it should not contain Liao or Jin architecture, those are different dynasties, and would, in a perfect world, have separate articles. Going by the other articles in the series, XXXX of the Song Dynasty articles only cover what happened during the Song Dynasty, in areas controlled by the Song Dynasty. Sven Manguard Wha? 08:10, 15 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]

2)Criteria of photograph to include in GA or featured article IMO, photograph should at least >2000 x 2000, that is the criteria for selection of "featured image". IMO, it is important to let people see the fine details of architecture, the brickworks, the decor etc, not just an "artful" but fuzzy picture without detail. Wiki is not photography salon--Gisling (talk) 04:27, 15 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]

There is absolutely no criteria for image size in articles, and for good reason. We use the best images available, and while size is one factor, it's not the only factor. Competition and especially in this case color factor in. I haven't been to the pagoda, so I'll have to trust you on this, but is the pagoda the iron color in the original photo, or is it the brownish color in your photo? I liked the first image primarily because the tower, in that image, looks like it's made of iron. Sven Manguard Wha? 08:10, 15 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]

File:Britishmuseum.jpg needs authorship information[edit]

Dear uploader:

The media file you uploaded as File:Britishmuseum.jpg appears to be missing information as to its authorship (and or source), or if you did provide such information, it is confusing for others trying to make use of the image.

It would be appreciated if you would consider updating the file description page, to make the authorship of the media clearer.

Although some images may not need author information in obvious cases, (such where an applicable source is provided), authorship information aids users of the image, and helps ensure that appropriate credit is given (a requirement of some licenses).

  • If you created this media yourself, please consider explicitly including your user name, for which: {{subst:usernameexpand|Gisling}} will produce an appropriate expansion,
    or use the {{own}} template.
  • If this is an old image, for which the authorship is unknown or impossible to determine, please indicate this on the file description page.
If you have any questions please see Help:File page. Thank you. Sfan00 IMG (talk) 18:03, 2 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Non-free rationale for File:Zhangwuzhi.jpg[edit]

Thanks for uploading or contributing to File:Zhangwuzhi.jpg. I notice the file page specifies that the file is being used under non-free content criteria, but there is not a suitable explanation or rationale as to why each specific use in Wikipedia is acceptable. Please go to the file description page, and edit it to include a non-free rationale.

If you have uploaded other non-free media, consider checking that you have specified the non-free rationale on those pages too. If the file is already gone, you can still make a request for undeletion and ask for a chance to fix the problem. If you have any questions, please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Sfan00 IMG (talk) 20:46, 25 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]

I am concerned about the references for the article Fujita–Storm equation which you created. Please comment at the article talk page. Deltahedron (talk) 11:55, 5 May 2014 (UTC) Having looked further, I see that you have placed exactly the same list of books as references for Gibbons-Tsarev equation, Fujita–Storm equation, Dodd-Bullough-Mikhailov equation, Tzitzeica equation and Estevez-Mansfield-Clarkson equation. Of concern is that, for example, the reference to page 135 of Graham W. Griffiths William E.Shiesser Traveling Wave Analysis of Partial Differential Equations is to a page referring to the Fisher-Kolmogorov equation which appears to support none of these articles. Furthermore, Google Books does not show any of the article titles as appearing in any of the books. Please clarify what these references are supposed to be supporting in these articles. Eckhaus equation[edit]

Hello Gisling, the article Eckhaus equation (which you created) addressed the wrong equations, so I changed it. Further the references you provided, like

  • Graham W. Griffiths & William E. Shiesser (2012) Traveling Wave Analysis of Partial Differential Equations, Academic Press
  • Richard H. Enns & George C. McGuire (1997) Nonlinear Physics with Maple, Birkhauser
  • Eryk Infeld & George Rowlands (2000) Nonlinear Waves, Solitons and Chaos, Cambridge University Press

do not mention the Eckhaus equation at all. Your way of adding citations – i.e. adding references which do not mention at all the subject of the articles you created – have also been noticed in some user contributions above.

Further, I do not comprehend what the simulations you added to many articles depict: they lack a proper description/caption: i.e. of which solution to the equations – and under which conditions – they try to simulate.

Looking forward to your response, best regards, Crowsnest (talk) 14:37, 31 August 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Mathematical notation[edit]

Please see my edits to Carotid–Kundalini function.

Note that you can write things like

coding it as 3\cos x, rather than

with "cos" instead of \cos. And you can write

so using and asterisk, as in

is not necessary. An asterisk in that role is a workaround for situations where you are limited to the characters on the keyboard. Also

rather than something like

can be used. Michael Hardy (talk) 16:39, 12 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Further editing of Neville theta functions[edit]

I found this:

I changed it to this:

However, notice that in both the original and the newly edited versions, two of the subscripts say "c" whereas one of those should say "s". I'd change it if I knew which one.

Also, I inserted the assertion that they're named after Eric Harold Neville. I don't have a reference for that and I'm not 100% sure it's correct. If you know anything about that, maybe you can add a reference. Michael Hardy (talk) 17:34, 12 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Bretherton equation[edit]

As for the Eckhaus equation, in Bretherton equation you added references which do not refer at all to this equation. I checked some of the references you provided:

  • Graham W. Griffiths & William E. Shiesser (2012) Traveling Wave Analysis of Partial Differential Equations, Academic Press
  • Richard H. Enns & George C. McGuire (1997) Nonlinear Physics with Maple, Birkhauser

Both do not mention the Bretherton equation at all. Further

  • Eryk Infeld & George Rowlands (2000) Nonlinear Waves, Solitons and Chaos, Cambridge University Press

gives a few times a reference to the Bretherton 1964 paper, but does not provide the equation itself, or a discussion of its characteristics and implications. Wikipedia articles are to be based on reliable sources, and these references -- although reliable -- are not sources on the Bretherton equation. Thank you for uploading File:Untitled-6MD.jpg. I noticed that the file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you did not create this file yourself, you will need to specify the owner of the copyright. If you obtained it from a website, please add a link to the page from which it was taken, together with a brief restatement of the website's terms of use of its content. If the original copyright holder is a party unaffiliated with the website, that author should also be credited. Please add this information by editing the image description page.

If the necessary information is not added within the next days, the image will be deleted. If the file is already gone, you can still make a request for undeletion and ask for a chance to fix the problem.

Please refer to the image use policy to learn what images you can or cannot upload on Wikipedia. Please also check any other files you have uploaded to make sure they are correctly tagged. Here is a list of your uploads. If you have any questions or are in need of assistance please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. – czar 18:57, 18 July 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Autoblocked because your IP address was recently used by "唐戈". The reason given for 唐戈's block is: "Abusing multiple accounts: User:Gisling".

Accept reason: I've removed the autoblock. You should be able to edit now. Mike VTalk 00:10, 13 November 2015 (UTC)[reply]

User:唐戈 IS MEANT TO USE ONLY IN ZH.WIKI, IT SHOULD LINKS TO USER:gisling in en.wiki

Your "globalization" makes mess by automatically assign a new User:唐戈 to my en.wiki account that is YOUR FAULT not mine, (show me my application for user:唐戈 IN EN.WIKI )

User:gisling should links to user:唐戈 in zh.wiki, and vise versa

Your "globalization" created an unwanted user:唐戈 MULTIPLE ACCOUNT IN EN.WIKI, ALSO CREATED UNWANTED "USER:GISLING" IN ZH.WIKI

Hello, I'm BracketBot. I have automatically detected that your edit to Subminiature photography may have broken the syntax by modifying 1 "[]"s. If you have, don't worry: just edit the page again to fix it. If I misunderstood what happened, or if you have any questions, you can leave a message on my operator's talk page.

Loke Wan Tho article edit reverted[edit]

Gisling: I've just reverted an edit made by you that removed cleanup messages, without cleanup or explanation. When the messages were added, the reason was posted on the talk page. The reason for reverting your edit is also detailed on the talk page. The article needs cleanup by someone with knowledge of the subject - shooting the cleanup messages does not improve the article. --Zahzuhzaz (talk) 16:23, 27 July 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Ways to improve Gemflex[edit]

Hi, I'm Montanabw. Gisling, thanks for creating Gemflex!

I've just tagged the page, using our page curation tools, as having some issues to fix. Needs expansion and a bit more narrative style.

The tags can be removed by you or another editor once the issues they mention are addressed. If you have questions, you can leave a comment on my talk page. Or, for more editing help, talk to the volunteers at the Teahouse.
