User talk:Histrion
Hello Histrion and welcome to Wikipedia! Hope you like it here, and stick around.
Here are some tips to help you get started:
- To sign your posts (on talk pages, for example) use the '~' symbol. To insert just your name, type ~~~ (3 tildes), or, to insert your name and timestamp, use ~~~~ (4 tildes).
- Try the Tutorial, and feel free to experiment in the test area.
- If you need help, post a question at the Help Desk
- Follow the Wikipedia:Simplified Ruleset
- Eventually, you might want to read the Manual of Style and Policies and Guidelines.
- Remember Wikipedia:Neutral point of view
- Explore, be bold in editing pages, and, most importantly, have fun!
Good luck!
Thanks
[edit]Thanks for the kind words - it's always nice to know, even occasionally, that one's efforts are appreciated. :) --khaosworks (talk • contribs) 15:40, August 16, 2005 (UTC)

Removed Category
[edit]Hi! Your user page wasn't vandalized. I removed the Category:Indiana Wikipedians cat from your User page as it is being merged into Category:Wikipedians in Indiana -- which you were already set up ;-). Take care!! Roby Wayne Talk • Hist 03:02, 13 September 2005 (UTC)
Sig
[edit]You can alter it in your preferences (ticking the "raw signatures" option and then filling in whatever you want your signature to be in raw wikicode in the "Nickname" field ). For example, mine is khaosworks (talk • contribs) Hope this helps. --khaosworks (talk • contribs) 22:20, 26 October 2005 (UTC)
Italics in Doctor Who
[edit]Doctor Who is a special case, because we have serials, not just episodes. What I've been doing ever since the whole thing started is tom follow the convention used in all the officially licensed Doctor Who material (Doctor Who Magazine, the Discontinuity Guide, the Television Companion, etc.) which italicises all the story titles. So it's a style thing within the Wikiproject. There's discussions on this somewhere. --khaosworks (talk • contribs) 22:16, 13 December 2005 (UTC)
Unspecified source for Image:Davisonpeter.jpg
[edit]Thanks for uploading Image:Davisonpeter.jpg. I notice the file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you have not created this file yourself, then there needs to be a justification explaining why we have the right to use it on Wikipedia (see copyright tagging below). If you did not create the file yourself, then you need to specify where it was found, i.e., in most cases link to the website where it was taken from, and the terms of use for content from that page.
If the file also doesn't have a copyright tag, then one should be added. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then the GFDL-self tag can be used to release it under the GFDL. If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Fair use, use a tag such as article name or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair use. See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.
If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have specified their source and tagged them, too. You can find a list of files you have uploaded by following this link. Unsourced and untagged images may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If the image is copyrighted under a non-free license (per Wikipedia:Fair use) then the image will be deleted 48 hours after 17:32, 7 January 2007 (UTC). If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. cohesion 17:32, 7 January 2007 (UTC)

"Keep It Dark" downbeats
[edit]In the article on Genesis's Keep It Dark, is there any reason you took out the part about the band members playing on different downbeats? I felt this was an important aspect which contributed to the song's unusual structure. Jphillst (talk) 14:41, 2 November 2008 (UTC)
- I don't think "syncopation" is enough to describe the concept I was trying to get across. What I meant is that, in Keep It Dark, the band members are actually playing downbeats at separate times from each other -- Mike is playing a 6/4 (or possibly 3/2) riff, while Phil plays what is essentially a 4/4 riff underneath him. Then, during the bridge, Tony plays his synth-pad chords a half-beat ahead of Phil's downbeat, and during the chorus, he plays a half-step ahead of the downbeat.
- Syncopation can exist regardless of how many people are playing -- even a solo piece can be syncopated. I'm not sure if there's a term for the musical phenomenon I was trying to describe (different band members playing on different downbeats), but I don't think "syncopated" conveys the same idea.
- I agree with you about the time signature being 3/2 instead of 6/4, though. Jphillst (talk) 13:05, 18 November 2008 (UTC)
New Doctor Steel Page AfD
[edit]Hi. You weighed in on the Doctor Steel AfD debate back in February 2007. Thought you might like to know that there is a new one up for review, in case you wish to comment again. Gadfly virus?
[edit]Hey, I maintain the Gadfly website, which you noted on the Benet Academy page as "virus infected", could please clarify/explain that on the Benet talk page? As far as I know, there's no javascript or any active content on that site that could provide a vector for viruses. Further, Google seems to think it's clean: http://www.google.com/safebrowsing/diagnostic?site=http://gadfly.whyihateblogs.com 134.173.129.236 (talk) 03:56, 2 October 2009 (UTC)
Whoa, you're right. There's a hidden iFrame that got added at the end somehow. Spooky. I'll get rid of that. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 134.173.129.236 (talk) 04:04, 2 October 2009 (UTC)
Ok, restored from a pre-hacking backup, and tightened up server permissions, so hopefully it won't happen again. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 134.173.129.236 (talk) 04:16, 2 October 2009 (UTC)

[edit]Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. Wikipedia appreciates your help. Hi,
You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. If you wish to participate, you are welcome to review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page.
