Cheers[edit]

Damon Runyon's short story "Dancing Dan's Christmas" is a fun read if you have the time. Right from the start it extols the virtues of the hot Tom and Jerry

This hot Tom and Jerry is an old-time drink that is once used by one and all in this country to celebrate Christmas with, and in fact it is once so popular that many people think Christmas is invented only to furnish an excuse for hot Tom and Jerry, although of course this is by no means true.

No matter what concoction is your favorite to imbibe during this festive season I would like to toast you with it and to thank you for all your work here at the 'pedia this past year. Best wishes for your 2020 as well MD. MarnetteD|Talk 22:26, 17 December 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks you kindly, fellow MD. Best wishes to you and yours as well, MarnetteD. Matt Deres (talk) 17:51, 23 December 2019 (UTC)[reply]
So when it's a Runyon short winter story about one dancing man in Esquire, it's peace and love, but when it's a Doyle short summer story about several in Strand, it's hellfire and brimstone, got it. InedibleHulk (talk) 22:30, 20 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Happy First Edit Day![edit]

Maybe "No thank you" instead of deleting solicited and referenced advice?[edit]

I used to think you were a polite fellow Canadian, or at least somewhat tolerant of other people's opinions. But after what you did at the Humanities desk, I'm not so sure. Deleting stuff from your own user page is one thing, but deleting another user's contributions from a forum where you openly asked anyone for help is messed up. I won't point you to the rule about it or ask you to restore my friendly thoughtful tips, you're no noob, you get it. But if someone else (not me) wastes time answering a vague question of yours later, consider declining or asking for clarification instead of burning it all like a scared, confused and/or ingrateful New Yorker, eh? InedibleHulk (talk) 22:19, 20 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]

There was nothing about your replies that was helpful in the slightest. I have all the patience in the world for folks who earnestly try to help, even if they end up missing the mark. But what purpose did your comments serve? Nothing. They weren't even jokes. Just random thoughts you decided to clutter my question with. And now you come here to call me "scared, confused, and/or ingrateful (sic)", none of which makes any sense whatsoever. I'm in no way afraid of your nonsense or confused by it and suggesting I should be grateful for it is absurd. Matt Deres (talk) 16:53, 21 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]
OK, I shouldn't have offered "scared" as a possibility, and should have spelled "ingrateful" with a U. Sorry. I stand by "confused", though, since you admit missing all the points of my earnest tries to help. Anyway, from the sounds of it, there really is no point getting into the details, some ideas and some people just don't click, regardless of patience or effort. The important thing is we're still both Canadians. Cheers to tomorrow night, however you'd spend it! InedibleHulk (talk) 03:18, 1 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you, and the same (belatedly). Sorry, I've been offline for some time. I suppose it surprises no one that two Canucks can talk amicably even in times of stress. In that same spirit of amicability, I'd like to see if we can figure out where we went amiss. My question was about finding a resource that acted as an overview of popular illustration (artists, schools of thought, etc.). Sluzzelin's response was exactly the kind of thing I wanted (albeit pricey), so I think I must have been fairly clear about what I intended. Your first suggestion was Paradise Lost, which is an epic poem. It's certainly been illustrated, most notably by William Blake, but it's still just a single book. As were the other suggestions you made and therein lies the problem. It would be like me asking for information about the layout of the periodic table of the elements and you suggesting I read up on iron. Yes, I could read up on iron and then try to formulate something myself, but it would be completely the long way around. I needed an overview. Probably a textbook. I'm stuck on why you thought adding more examples of specifics were going to be helpful. While the examples I gave are famous enough in their own right, surely someone who knows of Aubrey Beardley already has the capability of looking up further artists or books one by one? Never edited Helsinki Cathedral article[edit]

I have had no interest in this cathedral until you recently accused me of altering it.

Sincerely, Agihard — Preceding unsigned comment added by Agihard (talkcontribs) 16:17, 18 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Your Agihard account didn't edit that article; the IP 172.58.139.51 did. That edit broke the infobox of the article, so I reverted it and templated that IP's talk page. IP's are not constant, though, so if that wasn't you, just ignore the message. Matt Deres (talk) 19:12, 18 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Gyaru article revision[edit]

Can I undo the revision you made since it is correct by Splatoon in-game lore Marina is not an inkling as in a anthropomophic squid but an ocotoling as a anthropomorphic octopus species in Splatoon 2. Sorry for the inconvenience. 213.93.190.216 (talk) 21:49, 23 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Altered speedy deletion rationale: User:Semendemon 1/sandbox[edit]

Hello Matt Deres, and thanks for patrolling new pages! I am just letting you know that I deleted User:Semendemon 1/sandbox, a page you tagged for speedy deletion, under a different criterion from the one you provided. The speedy deletion criteria are extremely narrow and specific, and the process is more effective if the correct criterion is used. You may wish to review the Criteria for Speedy Deletion before tagging further pages. Thank you. Ivanvector (Talk/Edits) 19:09, 27 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Ivanvector - thanks for the heads up. I had considered that, but the content itself didn't seem problematic, so flagging it as vandalism didn't seem appropriate. Matt Deres (talk) 21:59, 27 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]
No worries. You tagged the page for deletion under speedy criterion U2, which is for subpages of users that don't exist, but this user does exist, so this didn't quite fit that criterion. But I've seen a lot of "John Pork" vandalism in the last little while so I just deleted it under that justification instead. Thanks for your help. Ivanvector (Talk/Edits) 22:31, 27 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Yakov Blumkin[edit]

I have no idea why you reverted my edit. Yakov Blumkin was not an "illegal immigrant," which is what the link now directs users to. He was the "chief illegal resident," which, in Soviet parlance, referred to a special category of spy, as the article resident spy makes abundantly clear. 104.153.228.206 (talk) 03:48, 2 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Sorry about that. I was on recent changes patrol and your edit looked suspicious. One of the favourite activities of vandals is changing the hidden portion of wikilinks so that they go to a different article, so your edit got flagged as "likely problematic" by the system. Feel free to revert! Matt Deres (talk) 14:35, 2 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
No problem! I'll revert.--104.153.228.206 (talk) 01:35, 3 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Chhurpi[edit]

Hi there. I'm not sure why you reverted my edit. Theres no source of orgiin that chhurpi is from Nepal. Im not trying to vandalise anything. Ive changed it to the Himalayan region instead. Thanks 82.35.88.151 (talk) 11:42, 12 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]

You clearly made a mistake[edit]

You have clearly made a mistake deleting my edit. Circular economy completely plagiarised the work by Prof Robert Ayres - look up his book https://blackwells.co.uk/bookshop/product/Industrial-Ecology-by-Robert-U-Ayres-Leslie-Ayres-Paolo-Frankl/9781858983974 and Thomas Graedel https://www.amazon.co.uk/Industrial-Ecology-Prentice-International-Systems/dp/0130467138 . It’s is astonishing how unqualified opportunists are stealing and commercialising the ideas of scientists who are never acknowledged. I will give you another name: Prof Ernst Von Weizsacker. The article about circular economy is written like a commercial, pushing this idea for commercial gain. It is utterly ridiculous. 84.71.209.180 (talk) 01:15, 9 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Next time, add citations to what you add and it will probably stick. Wikipedia is an encyclopedia built out of reliably sourced material. Matt Deres (talk) 15:42, 9 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]
