NY Times article 2013-05-06[edit]

Those interested in this subject may want to consider adding content from this NY Times article: "A Forgotten Pioneer of Vaccines". RCraig09 (talk) 16:36, 13 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Autism discredit[edit]

Hilleman was the inventor of the multi-vaccine that was later "proven" by Wakefield to cause autism, published in 1998. The article was later found to be totally false and the autism connection disproven, but only after much publicity. The journal later retracted the article in 2010 or thereabouts. Wakefield was later discredited for his methods and eventually lost his license to practice medicine. However this was a huge tarnishing of Hilleman's name and likely resulted in his not receiving the Nobel prize that he deserved for his work (It is said that Hilleman saved more lives than any other medical researcher in history). Yet this Wiki article about him contains nothing about this "scandal" its almost as though Wiki is trying to hide this shameful episode: there is no mention of wakefield, the journal article of Hilleman's later vindification, or of the bogus vaccine-autism connection and the dis-proving of such. This event really needs to be included along with the eventual outcome as it was a significant part of this man's life, resulting in his receiving hate mail instead of the Nobel prize. Not to mention that the autism scare still persists in some people's minds even today. There is no mention of it in the Wiki not even a reference to the autism scare (that may properly be in a separate Wiki article altogether). 2601:342:0:E3D0:8C33:846B:7582:1348 (talk) 07:01, 21 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]

I am unaware of nomination for a Nobel prize or one being withdrawn. If you have any reliable sources about that, or hate mail, or anything else about it, please provide a link. MartinezMD (talk) 01:32, 24 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]
