Untitled[edit]

Although I have studied where Malcolm Mackerras teaches I have never been in his classes, but in February 2004 did have a brief email correspondence with him. As a consequence, after I noticed that he was mentioned in an article but did not have an entry of his own, I created this page (on Monday 13 September 2004.)

By pure chance, the next day (Tuesday 14 September), when I attended a lecture and discussion at the school of Business in the Australian Defence Force Academy, Professor Mackerras sat two seats away from me. After the event I chased after him and drew to his attention that I had given him an article in Wikipedia with which he was not familiar. We then spent some 30 minutes discussing the politics of the America and Australia. Peter Ellis 07:03, 14 Sep 2004 (UTC)

The image of the US pendulum makes no prediction that Kerry will win the election. Could we have a quote from the article in which he makes this prediction? Adam 06:24, 16 Oct 2004 (UTC)

The image has an arrow and the words "Democratic win" against the number 287 at the bottom of the curve of the table. Admittedly, this is an image created by others, and the data from Mackerras' web site is currently unobtainable as the university rearranges the structure of its web site. However, does this not constitute a 'prediction'? Peter Ellis 05:57, 19 Oct 2004 (UTC)

No, it is a statement that if there is a swing of that size, then the Democrats will win. I suspect this misunderstanding is also the source of the claim that Mackerras predicted the result of the Australian election. Mackerras's pendulums contain no predictions. Adam 06:13, 19 Oct 2004 (UTC)

It seams rather bizarre to give an example of him being incorrect without examples of where he was correct. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 60.230.72.196 (talk) 07:04, 30 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Canberra Times bio[edit]

The Canberra Times of 26 January 2006 gives a brief biography in connection with the award of an AO, in which he gives the "egg on face quote". --Surgeonsmate 20:00, 25 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

No longer at UNSW?[edit]

Mackerras may not be at UNSW any more. A search of their [staff directory http://info.unsw.adfa.edu.au/search/staff_directory.html] does not find him. These references state or suggest that he is at Australian Catholic University, at least temporarily ("visiting").
