Discussion[edit]

PLEASE do remove the comparison to 60s Batman live action show, it is very disrespectful. The stunts that Santo himself carried out in the movies (asides from the wrestling scenes) were all very dangerous and he did it himself, difering ENTIRELY with the 60s Batman series where the actors were never in stunts or sufering real pain. Please someone do this since the blunt comparison is not sustainable at all. Thank you.

I propse moving this page to Santo, as that is what he is actually known as, per Wikipedia:Naming conventions (common names). Is there agreement?--Pharos 06:39, 11 Mar 2005 (UTC)

I sort of agree. Then again, Rodolfo Guzmán Huerta is his real name, I sort of interpret the page you reference above as more a guideline to use the most common form of the person's name, not an entirely different nickname. So I'm not sure. Given that Santo redirects here, is there a lot of gain in moving it?-JZ
Well, putting the article at "Santo" makes it more likely to turn up in a search engine query. I think that's basically the main benefit of having an article at the most common name.--Pharos 08:27, 11 Mar 2005 (UTC)
Yeah, that's a good point, I guess. Now, should it be Santo or El Santo? Usage varies, although intuitively I think I've seen it without the definite article more than with. JZ
In that case, I would suggest Santo as there's a general style preference here against the use of the definite article anyway.--Pharos 05:34, 12 Mar 2005 (UTC)
Yeah, the thing is that "El Santo" seems to have been his working name earlier in his career, but it seems to have changed to just Santo, or preferably "Santo, el enmascarado de plata" by the time his movie career started. Given that he's mostly known for his mid-to-later career, I guess Santo is the correct title. So yeah, I concur with a move there. JZ
OK, I moved it (as you can see), and also categorized the article and added a movie poster.--Pharos 08:32, 12 Mar 2005 (UTC)

I am not 100% certain that is an actual picture of El Santo on the front page. First of all, it is in color, and most authentic pictures of El Santo at his most muscular were black and white. This may be a picture of El Hijo Del Santo, or possibly another individual in a Santo costume. Regardless, I would suggest using a classic B&W photo of El Santo. Hooper_X 04:44, 6 Jun 2005 (UTC)

El Santo in Cartoon Network[edit]

there is no mention of the the cartoon series made by Cartoon Network that were showed in México last year, it was like the Star Wars: The Clone Wars, short cartoons, I don't know if they were aired only in México and sincerely I don't have much information, but it will be good to have this reference in the article, since it shows how the fame of El Santo lasts till our days

Jesus Christ Vampire Hunter[edit]

I am removing JCVH from the list of movies, as the Santo in the film was not the original Santo. 24.163.66.210 19:53, 17 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I have a question[edit]

Well, it´s about El Santo´s funeral.

I´ve heard it was the biggest funeral of ALL Mexico. Can someone confirm me and give me some facts about that?

I'm not sure, I was very young when it happened but can't remember it as such a big deal. One I do have very present in my mind was that of Mario Moreno "Cantinflas",back in 1991(?). But perhaps (not sure about that) could have been those related to Jorge Negrete or Pedro Infante. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 189.135.4.156 (talk) 16:58, 6 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

SantoEl Santo — Wrestler's name was El Santo. Yes, that's a definite article, but see The Police. JPG-GR (talk) 00:13, 16 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

  • He was referred to as both "Santo" and "El Santo", El Santo is already a redirect here, I see no point in moving it.MPJ-DK (talk) 04:52, 16 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]
  • Support He was far more well known as El Santo (and his son even goes by "El Hijo del Santo", which translates to "Son of the Santo" or something like that). TJ Spyke 04:36, 17 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]
  • Oppose while "El" is not a definite article in English, thus doesn't matter whether it exists or not in the title, in English he is known as Santo because of his movies. 70.29.212.226 (talk) 04:07, 18 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]
  • Comment - For what it's worth, Google hits, subtracting Wikipedia's mirrors and copycats, shows a fairly equal usage of "Santo" and "El Santo" in English. "Santo" seems more often used in film, "El Santo" more often in wrestling. -kotra (talk) 20:06, 29 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

THat's what you get for using WIkipedia instead of the sources listed on the page - Wikipedia can be changed, not the sources. ANd what's wrong with the El Santo article?  MPJ -DK  06:01, 3 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Spanish mistranslation?[edit]

In the introduction, Guzmán is referred to as a "luchador enmascarado", which is then translated as "professional wrestler" in English. However, "to mask" in Spanish is "enmascarar", and therefore "enmascarado" would be more along the lines of "masked". He should then be a masked wrestler rather than a professional wrestler. Should this be changed, or is this some kind of wrestling slang where someone that is masked is a professional? Obergen (talk) 01:20, 2 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]

  • Actually it IS translated to "masked professional wrestler" so I am not sure what this is about? MPJ -US  13:50, 2 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]

The result of the move request was: moved as requested, per the discussion below; disambiguation page moved to Santo. Dekimasuよ! 02:19, 15 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]

SantoEl Santo – Correct name. The name of the wrestler is always with El. It's the same as The Undertaker or The Great Khali. Also, many of luchadores articles includes El (El Texano, El Hijo del Fantasma, El Hijo del Santo... )  HHH Pedrigree (talk) 10:32, 6 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Moved from technical request. This has been discussed and found no consensus for move. Therefore should be discussed again. –Ammarpad (talk) 11:10, 6 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]
@Paintspot, Zxcbvnm, and In ictu oculi: It seems Special:WhatLinksHere/Santo has over 500 pages (If I checked correctly), so please how can it be sorted out if the disambiguation is moved to Santo ? –Ammarpad (talk) 06:12, 14 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Most of those are via 5 or 6 links in templates, so it won't take as much work to correct things as the total number makes it seem. Dekimasuよ! 22:44, 14 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]
I fixed the template links, and that took it down to about 70. Dekimasuよ! 02:16, 15 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]
