Untitled[edit]

The present sparse content is not much more than a stub and needs extension. I'm hoping to turn this into a real history of French SF and a hub page for English entries on French SF authors and novels. It may make sense to separate the authors into a separate page as "List of French SF authors", but not until there's more text there. The author list has been copied from the French wikipedia, and many of them have entries there that can be translated.

I'll be glad to help, but I'm not familiar with any of these authors, so you'll have to check me for factual inconsistencies introduced by confusion with French/science fiction-ese. --[[User:Aranel|Aranel ("Sarah")]] 02:51, 16 Sep 2004 (UTC)
Aranel, I can proofread translations, but the truth is I only know about half of those names myself. Write articles on what you want to find out about - that used to be the advice somewhere here on Wikipedia, and I wanted to know French SF better. Anyway, I'd advise you to pick a name without an article, or one with more extensive text on fr than en and start translating. I sweep through the list every couple of days to see if changes have been made or new translations written, and I'm sure a new article with an fr link stands a decent chance of getting proofed by someone else who's bilingual.
Alternately, if you live in French bookstore country, pick up some of these authors works and talk about them in greater depth. That's more time consuming, but it was my original plan until work caught up with me. I'm suffering a somewhat irregular existence right now, so I just can't do the research.

Sadly, I would guess that the nearest French bookstore is at least a twenty-hour drive from here. (Although there's always Amazon.com.) Actually, most French science fiction seems to be fond of political and social commentary, which is my least favorite manifestation of the larger science fiction genre! However, I agree that it is of interest and deserves to be better-represented here.
I made a category, Category:French science fiction. It may some day require sub-categories. (I like to categorize, and I was running out of Middle-earth categories to add...) --[[User:Aranel|Aranel ("Sarah")]] 17:58, 16 Sep 2004 (UTC)

WorldCat Genres[edit]

Hello, I'm working with OCLC, and we are algorithmically generating data about different Genres, like notable Authors, Book, Movies, Subjects, Characters and Places. We have determined that this Wikipedia page has a close affintity to our detected Genere of science-fiction. It might be useful to look at [1] for more information. Thanks.
