You're making a lot of pages with links to redirects to themselves. A page should not link to itself; these should be listed as variants in the article. See Tir na n-Og (it's fine to have variant redirects, but only one should be listed in bold). -phma

There may be something similar, but non-"classical" mythology (Greek, Roman and sometimes Norse) tend to be mostly ignored, though Joseph Campbell did make some references to Aztecs and whatnot. user:Tokerboy

Tokerboy, Aren't the New Hebrides now the Republic of Vanatu? If so, the nationality would be Ni-Vanuatu (either singular or plural noun) or Ni-Vanuatu (adjective.). Though perhaps you'd want to say Vanatu, formerly New Hebrides for clarity's sake! Someone else 06:46 Sep 25, 2002 (UTC)

Do we need lots of one-sentence articles on Aztec mythological characters? I think it would be better to gather several related ones onto one page and make the rest redirects. -phma

Can you slow down a little? I just looked at Hopi mythology and cleared out a large stack of obvious typos, and removed the instruction to put the text for the new page here. I know you have a lot of info handy, but if it's worth creating a page, it's worth proofreading it.Vicki Rosenzweig

Re: mythology. As somebody who will only be a reader on these pages, when I look at a page like Egyptian mythology, I want to get a good overview of what it's all about, not just a list of names with links. I'm not going to bother clicking 50 links, especially if I know most of them don't have much content. I think it will become obvious when there's too much information on one subject and it ought to be split off. Also, there's no reason we can't duplicate some information on the bigger figures who have their own pages. I'm thinking about the way we're doing WikiProject Countries with intentional duplication between France and History of France. Having said all that, I think you're doing a great job and I wouldn't object to either way. :) DanKeshet

You just created two articles with invalid box characters in their *titles*. Why didn't you fix the characters in the links instead? -phma

The characters from 128 to 159 are invalid, but appear on Windows boxes as apostrophes, dashes, and other such characters. On Unix boxes they appear as boxes, slugs, or nothing. They look like this: ???????????????????????????????? . There is a valid box character; it's used in nested bullet lists. -phma

Have you considered putting the descriptions of all those Funkadelic songs on the page describing each album? They don't all have unique titles, and besides, many of them look puny on their own--I think they'd be more impressive all on the same page with the CD info. You might consider starting another wikiproject for your template. See e.g. http://www.wikipedia.org/w/wiki.phtml?search=wikiproject for the list of ones that are started already, though I note that movies still aren't (Zoe, Eclecticology, I, & others are just playing that by ear, I guess, though Zoe's been doing the bulk of the work). Anyway, if you started a page specifically for how to write about albums and songs, I'm sure you'd get a good dialogue going about how to do it. --KQ

Thanks again for your efforts at Politics of Canada. It proves that with a co-operative approach, a lot can be accomplished. For now I'm inclined to leave the National Unity part of that article alone for at least a couple of weeks. As You have rightly said, there are still a few holes in that part. I started last night editing the Politics of Canada page. I plan to do much more and try to give it a better flow. However, the opinion of a non-Canadian who says he knows little of Canada is very important. As such, please leave me your thoughts on my user page User:DW and I will be glad to address anything I can. My goal is to give an NPOV understanding for the world wide viewers to this great site. Note that I use the words "Separatist Government" to clearly define that the matter at question was done by an elected government whose sole purpose is to separate from Canada vis-a-vis the beliefs or actions of a majority of the citizens of Quebec. Example: "Quebec did not sign the or Quebec believed etc., etc." The person who wrote this page had a mission and that was to gain a positive view of Quebec separatist's actions by expressing their goals as those of all Quebeckers. Hi, Tokerboy. I made your requested change to the U.S. presidential election, 2000 article. I used Internet Explorer 6.0 (IE6) to make the edit.

My browser of choice is Opera, but it cuts off textbox edits at 32 KB. So whenever I edit a really long page I have to use IE6.

For Will Smith (who I also hate, for similar reasons) acting well, or at least better, check out "Six Degrees of Separation", which was out in 1994? or some such. It's been a long time since I saw it, though, so he might suck. The movie is also mediocre, and makes some inane point about life that I never quite figured out. On second thought, skip it, but just for the record - he doesn't always suck so bad. Graft

The album stuff is proceeding fine. I just marked up Highway 61 Revisited as promised. Do you have any idea about influential singles, or was that before your time? I wrote one up "Love is Strange" because the cosmic coherence just knocks me out. I also have started articles on the First rock and roll record, rock and roll anthems, and roots of rap music. You had to ask:

melody = the tune
harmony = the chords and notes that fit with them
bass guitar = key instrument, provides rhythm and also sets harmony, can also be string bass, tuba, organ pedals, whatever

Odyssey and Oracle absolutely flows pure music. My copy is temporarily missing, but here's what the New York Times said in 1998:

"Over the course of the ensuing decades, (The Zombies) final album...'Odessey and Oracle' - a beautifully arranged, harmony drenched pristine pop paean to memory, the changing seasons, the passage of time and lost love - slowly began to be recognised as one of the greatest albums of the 1960's."

I just thought I'd let you know, that you can select move page "Move this page" from the left of the window. Wow. You beat me to creating an article on The Afghan Whigs, probably my favorite band. Thanks! Now to add a few, er, colorful facts: such as the band formed when Dulli and MacCullum met in jail; which band saw them performing in Cincinnati & told Sub Pop to sign them up; Dulli's moodiness; & (if I can remember which song that was) the fact they missed breaking into the big time because they refused to sanitize one of their songs so it could be played on top 40 radio. The only change I take issue with is the link for Kiwi bird being changed to Kiwi - a disambiguation page. Tokerboy, regarding the articles you're moving to "correct" the capitalization (Keep The Faith to Keep the Faith). Many of these articles names are exactly as they appear on album covers and in official material. I'm not saying flat out that it shouldn't be done, but the fact that these have established capitalizations should be considered. And "Bridge Over Troubled Water" to "Bridge over Troubled Water" is just ugly. :) nknight 07:57 Jan 2, 2003 (UTC)

Interesting. Are you sure the others don't redirect to the singer's page simply because they're named after the singer? ... Led Zeppelin doesn't redirect, nor does The Beatles (or, for that matter, The Monkees). But at any rate, you're much more involved in the music articles than I am, so I'll defer to your judgment. So many of your music biographies seem to end "his career was essentially over". In the first place, almost everybody has their little day and moves along to make room for the next one, and, in the second place, many of the "essentially over" people keep having their careers, appearing before adoring audiences, but just don't have any more hits. Greetings. I notice that you have been removing phrases such as "His Royal Highness" and "Her Royal Highness" and so on from articles about members of various royal families. Is there a reason for this? Regardless of what one may feel about the validity of the institution of monarchy, if these honorifics are part of the official titles of the people in question, they should be included in articles about them, shouldn't they? -- Oliver PEREIRA 16:31 Jan 14, 2003 (UTC)

Thanks for pointing out that Talk page. I think Someone else was referring to styles in the body of articles, although I may have to ask about that. I can see why a convention not to include full styles every time a royal person's name is mentioned would be appealing, as some styles can be quite unwieldy, and at least in the case of someone with an article of their own, one can go to their article (hopefully!) to find what their full style is. (For someone without an article of their own, I suppose one would have to deduce their style from the general styling conventions of the relevant country, which should eventually be covered in the Style - Manner of Address article, or in some article linked to from it. I'll have to think about that one...) I can't find any such convention written down anywhere, though. Can you point it out to me?

However, you also removed some styles of people with their own articles from the top lines of the articles themselves, which is certainly not right. An article on a person who is styled a certain way should certainly say how they are styled. Anytime I removed "Her Royal Highness" from the beginning of an article, it was an accident. I agree that full titles should be used in the beginning (bolded) part of the introduction, just not in the body of the article. Tokerboy

My point, perhaps not as clearly made as it should have been, was this: Look at what the Amedeo Modigliani article was (two lines of worthless crap), until I spent several hours accumulating information on the Internet, going to the library and reading Ken Follett's novel: The Modigliani Scandal. (Plus, I actually sat in Modiglian's chair in La Rotonde! On Wikipedia, in two seconds, the ZOE's of this world can destroy hours of hard work. That is not "improving" an article in progress, that is a clear message to discourage people from contributing. And no one on this site works harder than me....DW

Is there a place for "disputed" suicides? That is, deaths ruled suicides by the city fathers but disputed by some; or vice versa, like ruled an accidental overdose but was a "covered-up" suicide. But I think the main point is, if you look at the first version of the article, I think Stevert has just made the whole thing up -- if anyone else uses the term "semitism," and I just never heard anyone use it at all, I do not think they use it the ways the article suggests.
