Stephen Timoshenko could not be Ukrainian citizen. It was no Ukraine before 1991. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 195.46.32.8 (talk) 05:15, 18 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

There was no mother of yours before 1991. Brother of Stepan, Serhiy Tymoshenko was a Minister of Communications in Ukraine. Aleksandr Grigoryev (talk) 05:59, 23 December 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Name[edit]

Out of interest, why Stephen and not Stepan? The Big Hoof! (talk) 12:35, 7 November 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Russian empire[edit]

I don't want to edit the first paragraph. I just wanted to comment that it doesn't have to contain so much "Ukraine under Russian empire" propaganda. I am Ukrainian living in UK. There was no separate country of Ukraine during that time, so all of this modern rhetoric is disgusting, and absolutely unnecessary in the first paragraph about this great scientist. Just saying "Ukraine, which was then a part of the Russian empire" would suffice. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 78.149.117.190 (talk) 10:27, 2 August 2014 (UTC)[reply]

What rhetoric? Timoshenko was an academician of the Ukrainian Academy of Sciences. What rhetoric are you talking about? Aleksandr Grigoryev (talk) 06:01, 23 December 2017 (UTC)[reply]
What was Taras Shevchenko babbling about then if there was no Ukraine then? Aleksandr Grigoryev (talk) 06:03, 23 December 2017 (UTC)[reply]
The rhetoric of 'Ukraine under Russian Empire' or any allusion to any sort of submission or conquest. Thankfully this has been edited out of this article, saner heads have prevailed.104.163.175.181 (talk) 02:22, 25 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Name spellings[edit]

Sometimes Wikipedia speaks with forked tongue. There are three versions of his name given before we even get through the lede paragraph:

  • article title: Stephen Timoshenko
  • infobox header: Stephen Tymoshenko
  • lede introduction: Stepan Tymoshenko.

And reading on, we of course come across the 4th version, to complete the set:

  • Stepan Timoshenko.

So, we really have to get consistent about this. Is it going to be Stephen, or Stepan? And is it going to be Timoshenko, or Tymoshenko? I realise sources differ, which makes it a challenge. In such a case, WE have to decide on the name that WE are going to call him, and then use that name consistently. -- Jack of Oz [pleasantries] 22:18, 23 September 2014 (UTC)[reply]
