What constitutes a "free-hanging rope"? Isn't that a contradiction-in-terms? --snoyes 05:27, 6 Oct 2003 (UTC)

Probably not the best choice of words there. As I understand it, it's a rope tied to the ceiling or whatever at one end, and the other end hangs down, not tied to anything. Contrast to tight rope and slack rope, where both ends are tied to something. -- Merphant 05:41, 6 Oct 2003 (UTC)
A better comparison would be to a cloud swing, where both ends attach to the ceiling. Cloud swing and CL are otherwise identical in the type of rope and the construction. Check out the aerial arts FAQ (linked to in the main article) for more details.
