Story[edit]

2-23-06

My grandmother tells a story about the college:

During the Civil War it was a "polishing school" for young ladies. Methodist I think. The Union soldiers came through burning, after Atlanta I think. They were going to burn the college and all the women were upstairs looking out the windows. The president of the college had a letter. She said it was from Lincoln and it was orders not to burn the school. It was always thought that it was a trick and not really from him.

Also, blue spring park in Athens was not there when I was a child, I was told that during the Civil War it was covered over to prevent being poisened when the Union came through. When I was little they took the cover off and now it is a duck pond with a playground.

I don't know how to go about verifying this but feel free to use it however.

B.B.

So it:s poisoned, now, ironically! We had a spingfed "lake" in our town, too. It was once pristine and beautibul. Children would wade and swim there. People would buy their children baby ducks for Easter, and when they started growing up, and were no longer cute little babies, they were left at the "lake." Now it's a nasty mess. Ni more swimming! Citation Edit Reverted[edit]

Zpb52 (Talk) rerverted my edit: "Revert to revision 98334847 dated 2007-01-04 03:40:31 by MicahDCochran using popups". My purpose for that edit was to ask for a few statements where I think citations need adding. I used the notation {{fact}} which looks like this [citation needed] when rendered. I read through the document and only marked the ones that are easy to verify or if they are in errorenous should be removed. I don't have any reason to disagree with the factualness of the statements I marked up. However, I would like to be able to verify the facts (especially, if I am very interested in the topic). Zpb52, I would appreciate a reason for reverting this edit. Please point out the problems with my edit or my reasoning. Thank you and have a good day. — MicahDCochran 04:01, 5 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

  • Hahaha. --Zpb52 06:51, 5 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]
    • I'm sorry, but I don't understand your response. Please clarify. — MicahDCochran 12:08, 5 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]
      • No.--Zpb52 17:23, 5 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]
        • Your short responses do not help me to understand why my edit was reverted. Since you won't explain your action, would you revert the page to the last edit that I made (the one containing the{{fact}} tags)? By that I mean, revert the page back to the state as if you had not reverted it. -- MicahDCochran 23:14, 5 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]
          • Why don't you do it?--Zpb52 23:58, 5 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Concerns about the Notability of Residents[edit]

I am concerned that some of the residents in the "Notable residents/natives" section wouldn't pass the Wikipedia guidelines for Notable people (see Wikipedia:Notability (people)). Last week, I added tags to ask for citation and verification of information. I am just curious about how to handle this issue. Thanks.-- MicahDCochran 16:27, 20 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Major international art shows and major research documents housed within museums don't qualify? Do your research before adding tags! —Preceding unsigned comment added by 72.146.13.180 (talk) 04:36, 11 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Image copyright problem with Image:Nsheadlogo.png[edit]

The image Image:Nsheadlogo.png is used in this article under a claim of fair use, but it does not have an adequate explanation for why it meets the requirements for such images when used here. In particular, for each page the image is used on, it must have an explanation linking to that page which explains why it needs to be used on that page. Please check

  • That there is a non-free use rationale on the image's description page for the use in this article.
  • That this article is linked to from the image description page.

The following images also have this problem:

Geography[edit]

As best I can tell from Google Maps, as of October 2015, at closest approach the Athens city limits are three or four miles from the western extremity of Huntsville near Capshaw. This seems inconsistent with the assertion that Athens "shares a boundary with" Huntsville. 75.137.131.159 (talk) 01:19, 4 October 2015 (UTC)[reply]
