2005 comments[edit]

Hmm. Reasonable article but we have a small problem here. The article claims Redcliffe "acts as a service centre for the Moreton Bay island communities, tourist hub for [Moreton Bay]". This is only true if you ignore the southern end of the bay that is serviced by Cleveland and Redlands. Stradbroke Ferries do the major tourist run from Cleveland to Stradbroke Island and the substantial populations of the southern bay islands (unmentioned in this article) are looked after by a fleet of barges and fast ferries.

Article necessary on the Redland area to bring a bit of balance and fill in the gaps.Leeshipley 22:44, 5 Feb 2005 (UTC)

Quite. But the original paragraph never claimed it was the only hub; the choice of "a" rather than "the" was quite deliberate. I've put it back, but feel free to add a reference to other hubs such as the ones you've mentioned above. Also, some drongo decided that he couldn't be bothered googling for dormitory suburbs and deleted that. That's been reverted. A dormitory suburb is one where people go home when they are working in the nearby city. In this case, Brisbane. (Aguido, March 20, 2005)


The fix[edit]

Instead of vandalizing the Redcliffe page, I took another path: I wrote an entry for Redland Shire and updated the Stradbroke Island article. If you are interested please check them out for accuracy. --Leeshipley 08:52, 14 Feb 2005 (UTC)

Packed into 37 square kilometres?[edit]

50,000 people in 37 square kilometres may seem like a high density to rural farmland areas, but in cities it is about average density, if not under. about 1,350 persons per square kilometre is nothing to complain about, we have about that in my town, and there are plenty of trees, parks etc.

I'll add to this comment, as someone who has lived in Redcliffe, population density there is in fact very low in comparison to any other 'city' i've ever visited. On paper Brisbane city appears to have a lower pop. density, but not if you take into account all of the uninhabited regions (ie. boondall wetlands et al). Redcliffe is well spread, everyone has a large back yard, there is very little high density housing and zero traffic problems.

Actually, Redcliffe also has its share of unhabited areas. A lot of the area to the east of Clontarf also counts as part of Redcliffe. Aleksei 09:50, 4 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Bee Gees?[edit]

BeeGees in Redcliffe? Never heard that beofre. They originally lived in a suburb of Brisbane called Cribb Island, which no longer exists (no under the airport). 136.153.2.2 08:58, 4 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

My father is from Cribb island and now lives in Redcliffe. He never mentioned this at all. As far as I remember the Biography doesn't mention Cribb island either but even if they had, how does that exclude them from ever having lived in Redcliffe? The Bee Gees were all born in England and moved to Redcliffe when the brothers were all of Primary school age. They went to Scarborough state school in Redcliffe. Their first performance was at the Redcliffe paceway. They later moved to the gold coast as the band started to take off. I think they also lived in Sydney for a while... and back to England ... and the USA... They were quite young when living in Redcliffe. There's a mention in the book about the fact that they were breaking Queensland labour laws by performing due to their ages. Suggest you read 'The Bee Gees, tales of brothers Gibb' ISBN: 0711987483.
