2005[edit]

Please move this page to Truyen Kieu. Kim Van Kieu is the title of a work that Truyen Kieu is based on. DHN 02:23, 12 May 2005 (UTC)[reply]

I've upgraded the article to C Class. There is a fair amount of detail in it now, although it still needs quite a bit of work. I'll try to add a brief plot summary, when I have time. I've also assessed its importance as "High" (from Unassesssed) - I would agree with what's stated here, that it is widely regarded as the most important work of Vietnamese literature, but it would be good to dig up some references to support this.--Quywompka (talk) 12:58, 12 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

English translation of The Tale of Kieu by Michael Counsell[edit]

I am Michael Counsell and my translation of Kieu is mentioned under the section, English Translations, and in footnote 4. This was correct a few years ago, but I would like you to update footnote 4 to read:

Bilingual edition published by Thé Gioi Publishers in Hanoi in 1994, and again in a beautifully illustrated edition in 2011. In 2012 the English verse section of this was published as an e-book on Amazon Kindle; for details and for Michael Counsell's biography go to www.amazon.com/author/revmichaelcounsell

I would like also to offer you a quotation of the opening lines from my translation to put beside the others in the section of sample translations:

It’s always been the same:

good fortune seldom came the way

of those endowed, they say,

with genius and a dainty face.

What tragedies take place

within each circling space of years!

‘Rich in good looks’ appears

to mean poor luck and tears of woe;

which may sound strange, I know,

but is not really so, I swear,

since Heaven everywhere

seems jealous of the fair of face.

(Verse translation by Michael Counsell)

What are the chances of having a wikipedia article devoted to me, my career and my writings?
