New Historians

But the bug is more serious than you make it sound -- Before my edit I found the article emptied of content (I assume this was something you had to do as part of the correct procedure) but even when I checked the history, I couldn't retreive the contents. Chicago aldermen

Hi there! Since the discussion seemed finished, I've closed up the Wikipedia:Deletion_policy/Local_politicians discussion for now. I believe consensus has been established that local politicians deserve mention in Wikipedia, but not in a separate article UNLESS they have done something exceptional. Would you please check if you find this a reasonable conclusion, and leave a short note on that page's talk page? Thanks.

Misunderstanding

I fear you have misunderstood my comment regarding Isomorphic. It was certainly no legal threat on my part...it merely points out that we do not have license to say anything we want, and that the things we say about others most certainly can expose Wikipedia to potentially costly legal actions. He needs to exercise greater prudence, that's all. icut4u

French Revolution

Hey Jmabel - sorry for not citing sources. I was going to add a note on the talk page, but hadn't done so yet. I've mostly been following William Doyle's Origins of the French Revolution, which is probably the standard work in English on the subject. The old version of the article was seemingly based on Lefebvre's 1789 (or Coming of the French Revolution) which, though a great book, was published in 1939 and is quite out of date, I think. I will admit that I didn't have Doyle in front of me as I made the changed - I read the book a few days ago, though, and I have a pretty good memory for that kind of thing. Any specific problems you have with my changes are of course open to discussion, and it's quite possible I've made some errors. Also, I think that French Revolution is the only article I've made changes to, as yet - although some of the sub-articles probably ought to be revamped as well. (unsigned, but this was User:John_Kenney).

I did intend to work on Causes of the French Revolution at some point, but you'll notice that the only person who has edited that article in recent days is David Monniaux. How do I delete a subpage

I don't know much about these technical Wikipedia issues, but I indicated awhile ago that I would probably eventually delete User:Decius/Info, and I've decided to do so, but I don't know how. I want to make room for a new subpage describing Balkanic data, and I only want two subpages (Etymologies and the new one planned), so Info has to go. Hope you can help me out. Thanks again. Dear Jmabel: Thanks for your advice. You understood well, my intention was just to enrich your page with thisminor edit. I am new to wikipedia(or any wikis) and just starting to understand the so called etiquette here. Unfortunately wikipedia doesn't help on this matter much, especially when it has a nice and clear "edit this page" option at user pages. On the matter of using talkpage, I somehow was discouraged by a wikipedia guy who left a message in an article's discussion page saying "these pages unfortunately aren't used"...Thanks again and sorry. major RFC changes

Thanks for your comments at Wikipedia:Village pump (policy).

I think we have pretty clear consensus (except for jguk) that the page should be returned to the old procedures, at least for now. I'd like to ask you to please keep an eye on it. He has promised to keep reverting (ad nauseum), so it'd be nice if he see's I'm not the only one undoing his proposal. Primarily, this is because I don't want to see that very important page further disrupted. Please also keep an eye on the example subpage templates at Wikipedia:Requests for comment/Example admin and Wikipedia:Requests for comment/Example user. Please feel free to add any comments you have on Wikipedia talk:Requests for comment, where the new approach has already been discussed by other interested parties. It is an attempt to avoid confrontation (which is probably why Netoholic objects to it). The new approach is not perfect, but it is certainly an improvement on the nasty, divisive approach that we used to have. Constantin Brâncuşi

Hi. I noticed you reverted the changes from Constantin Brancusi to Constantin Brâncuşi. As far as I know, he didn't actually change his name in France, just that because his name included not-French letters, he had to write it in the 26-letter Roman alphabet with no extra characters (even though it should've become Brancushi, but alas). So, I think the Brâncuşi is not used by many sources, including French ones, because, even during his lifetime, the French didn't refer to him in that way because they didn't actually have the characters in their language.

Anyway, I found sources for you that show the use of the Romanian name:

"the first two are just mirrors of Wikipedia" Sorry about that! I didn't realise... the minimalism article was in fact from Wikipedia. So yeah, I don't think the argument about common use stands though - just because something is commonly used doesn't mean it's correct, and as an encyclopedia we should be teaching people the correct usage, not following their incorrect usage. An analogy would be the use of "Marea Britanie" in Romanian for the UK, which, while used more than "Regatul Unit", is incorrect, because Great Britain is of course distinct from the United Kingdom usage. Because I made Amghar a redirect to Tuareg. There was nothing at Amghar but a brief definition as the Tuareg word for "wise man", which isn't encyclopedic. If someone wants to write a real encyclopedia entry (even a stub) about imgharan, saying something about their role in Tuareg society, it's easy enough to get rid of the redirect and re-add the link. --Angr 19:18, 14 Mar 2005 (UTC)

I left a comment on the talk-page of the article. Personally, I am not sure that such precise citations are required by our policy, although I do recognize the effort you put into it. I want Doops to assume that you had good reasons to provide page by page citations. But please, consider the possibility that Doops is acting in good faith as well. Just as I've expressed at the Talk page, I believe the article needs wikifying in its organization and in large part of its content. Perhaps the {{cleanup}} template isn't the most appropriate, you're in better position than me to judge it; yet it's not a mere expansion what I believe it needs, but a complete revision. And please, don't think I haven't noticed your position of being open to discuss the subject and to welcome additions to your article, which I deeply appreciate. Last but not least, I tagged it with the intention of inviting everyone to take part in such revision, not to ask myself to do something, as you put it. I believe the reason why the article has lasted this long in its current form without contend, is because most people at the english Wikipedia have never heard of him before, not because a cleanup is not needed. -- Shauri 13:29, 16 Mar 2005 (UTC)
