date of birth[edit]

Date of birth in German version is given as 1891-12-15, but current English revision shows 1891-11-23. Which one (if any) is correct? MarkSweep 09:06, 14 Aug 2004 (UTC)

The latter is correct (i.e. 23 November 1891), according to the Canadian Centre for Architecture, itself citing several authoritative sources. Pinkville 04:01, 16 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Latin alphabet name[edit]

fr says: "other spelling: Rodtchenko". Is this correct ? Comte0 22:11, 20 September 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Yes, it's one of many variants in the roman alphabet of his name. Check out the Canadian Centre for Architecture link above to see a dozen or more. Pinkville 04:01, 16 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Meaning?[edit]

His influence on modern graphic design is so pervasive that to pick out particluar designers he has influenced would largely be a pointless endeavour. Also to his trusted friend Omar Turki.

I don't understand what this last sentence means. I would sort it out myself, but I'm not sure if they mean that Omar was another influence or that Omar was influenced by his work. Any help? Ryubread 11:30, 6 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Methinks that's a bit of silliness someone added. I can't find a reference anywhere to someone by the name of "Omar Turki". Definite odour of fish... Pinkville 04:08, 16 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Comparison with Leni Riefenstahl[edit]

His later photographic and cinematic work at the service of officialdom has even been compared to Leni Riefenstahl's in Nazi Germany. Both artists documented the state uncritically, even to the point of celebration. http://www.guardian.co.uk/artanddesign/2009/feb/10/rodchenko-popova-tate does this deserve a mention somewhere?Teatreez (talk) 17:41, 14 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Added and moved details regarding criticism/censorship[edit]

Hey fellow Wikipedians!

I went ahead and added details (with cited sources) regarding Rodchenko's censorship and criticism, which is an extremely important part of why he unceremoniously retired from many aspects of photography, but also the avant-garde movement as a whole during this era. I included his requirement to denounce his own work (publicly), and may go back and add more context on how it impacted him (including cited discussions where he contemplated suicide, like his friend Mayakovsky).

I've written on Rodchenko in undergrad for history projects, and would love to do more to bring focus on who I consider to be a brilliant mind of the early revolutionary period in the USSR.

If anyone can review changes I've made for errors, and/or constructive feedback, I'd love to do more. Gimmethecreeps (talk) 20:31, 10 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]
