Repeating 'the'[edit]

I'm on the Wikipedia typo team and trying to eliminate duplications of the word 'the'. Most are routine or because of an interposed link. This one is a little different.

However, it is *not* correct to duplicate or repeat the definite article 'the' when it precedes 'The Dalles' or any other name, title, or term with 'the' in its name. We sing The Star-Spangled Banner, not the The Star-Spangled Banner. New York City is comprised of the Bronx, New York, Kings, Queens, and Richmond counties, not the The Bronx, New York, Kings, Queens, and Richmond counties. (People also go to the Bronx Zoo, not the The Bronx Zoo.) South Holland contains the Hague metropolitan area and other areas, not the The Hague metropolitan area. And Wasco County is properly comprised of the Dallas Micropolitan Statistical Area, not the The Dalles Micropolitan Statistical Area.

And for amusement, see The The Dalles, OR?, written a bunch of years ago. It doesn't give an answer, but I bring it up because the writer works for the New York Times – not the The New York Times.
