I think it would be better to keep them separate; use the NSL article to discuss the history of the old league, and the new league gets its own article; sort of like Bundesliga (ice hockey) talks about the old German ice hockey Bundesliga, and Deutsche Eishockey Liga talks about the new league... - AmishThrasher

The APL isn't the NSL renamed, it's an entirely new league (with regional, rather than club, based teams - hence the absence of the only Australian club to represent Oceania in a World Championship). Keep the two separate leagues in two separate pages, with links between them because they were both exclusive domestic top competitions in their times.

A-League

It was announced today that the new league would be called the A-League, not the Australian Premier League, as speculated. Unfortunately, this name is already in use: A-League redirects to A-League Soccer - a competition in America. I suggest we arrange a disambiguation page for the two once ours is created, for the moment I have made the links go to A-League (Australia). I added the information regarding the announcement today, including the team names provided, but they did say that some teams are looking for a proper/mascot name still. Project

I am thinking of creating a WikiProject for the A-League, where we work on pages for each club, and providing reasonably up-to-date information on the league..any takers? If you haven't seen one before, check out WikiProject Formula One for an example. AlbinoMonkey 11:21, 1 Nov 2004 (UTC)

Upgrading

I think this article is ok, but it can be a lot better with a bit morw work. In particular, I want to see a lot more stuff in the history section, but also on media coverage as well, that kind of thing. Mooroolbark

It might interest you that Mooroolbark were the first club to enter the NSL - http://www.thebarkers.com.au/history.htm

Yeah, I know that, and without the Barkers there'd be no NSL whatsoever, because the other Melbourne teams wouldn't enter, or something like that. If we can get a few paragraphs on the formation/early days of the league, and a little bit of history on the pre-NSL comps held between clubs from different states that would be awesome, and of course Mooroolbark would be recognised accordingly. I wouldn't mind seeing a separate article on the Barkers no matter how short it is, so we could link it with this page. Blackmissionary 00:51, 14 July 2006 (UTC)

Furthermore

On that matter we also really need some knowledgable people to add pages on Brunswick Juventus, Sydney City and West Adelaide, because all these teams were important in Australian football, even if they aren't around anymore. It'd be great to have a wikiproject NSL or something like that, but there doesn't seem to be much interest on here for the NSL. Additional trophy information

Would be good to see the champions and runners up table expanded to also include minor premiers, and I think there was an NSL cup for a few years too? Maybe also include that one.

Individual medals

Also potentionally a table with each season against individual medal winners, eg. Warren and Marden medals coarch of the year, leading goal scorer for the year etc.

History re-write

Dissatisfied with the previous version of the 'history' section, (too POV against the NSL in my opinion, as well as being too short for my liking), this was something i had wanted to do for a long time. Primarily using stats and info from [OzFootball], and notes taken from Trevor Thompson's book 'One Fantastic Goal', i personally think it is a massive improvement. However it isn't perfect, with some sections definitely needing more info and work, and in particular info about the broadcasting rights situation especially the channel 7/C7 pay tv situation would be most welcome. The sections are designed for what i thought were the more obvious era changes, however this is wikipedia after all and they'ree are subject to change by whomever wishes to do so. "First National Sporting League" ?

This claim is uncited and just not true. Just because it predates the AFL and NRL doesn't mean it was the first! They weren't the only national sporting competitions in Australia. Representative matches in Australian rules football (State of Origin) and the Sheffield Shield among others preceeded it. It is not even the oldest club competition as the NFL Night Series also came first. Rulesfan (talk) 08:39, 10 May 2023 (UTC)
