To the anon who does not go by a handle but instead switches his IP whenever one is blocked for flagrant violation of the three-revert rule: I am willing to take advice on how I should be editing Wikipedia. I merely make the quite rational condition that the advice be coming from someone whose own ability to edit Wikipedia is one I can respect. Since your idea of "editing to NPOV" is apparently "remove true and factual information if it doesn't reflect well on Hubbard", as you have done on this article, or "insert unconfirmed and speculative information if it's pro-Hubbard", as you have done at L. The current last paragraph needs work; it is documented fact that later versions of AHOM have in fact been altered from Hubbard's original, but the deduction that this is because Hubbard's original words are deemed "embarassing" is speculation (however probable) and should not be stated as fact -- unless, of course, someone steps forward and takes responsibility for the squirreling, in which case we can quote their reasoning for the alteration. -- Antaeus Feldspar 02:08, 21 Mar 2005 (UTC)

Various reprintings

I found a bunch of references at Alibris with insufficient detail to add.

• 6th printing was in 1961
• 7th printing was in 1968
• 10th printing was in 1975
• 12th printing was in 1976
• 13th printing was in 1977
• ISBN 0884049574 was published in 1975 (and according to Amazon most recently in December 1994)
• ISBN 0884040240 was published in 1989 (or, according to Amazon, in 1988)

An interesting reference about the book

From "SECRET LIVES - L. Ron Hubbard", Channel 4, United Kingdom:

JIM DINCALCI - Ron Hubbard's Medical Officer: "LRH gave his son Nibs some amphetamines, and Nibs started talking, he said, started really going talking fast, from the speed. And he kept talking, he kept talking, and his dad kept giving him speed and all of a sudden he was talking about his history, when he was a clam and all these different situations in early Earth. And out of that came 'History of Man'."

Title of the book

Is the full title Scientology: A History of Man? or was the name changed for marketing purposes? --JWSchmidt 02:17, 22 July 2006 (UTC)

In all of the secondary sources I've read the work is called A History of Man, with no prefacing "Scientology:". The book might have been renamed, or it might be an error in the Amazon listing (this last seems plausible to me especially after seeing this listing...) -- Antaeus Feldspar 19:20, 25 July 2006 (UTC)

I do know that Hubbard published a title, Voyage of Vengence but I don't know when it was first published. I of course agree, it seems unlikely that he was published at the age of nine. But, okay, I'll do what I can to find out where that error happened, my first suspicion would be whoever posted at amazon.com simply hit a wrong key. Terryeo 07:19, 20 August 2006 (UTC)

The error lies in the Amazon.com listing. Voyage of Vengeance is the 7th book in the Battlefield Earth series which is of fairly recent publication. Hubbard's last fiction, actually. Amazon com lists an ISBN which doesn't show up at the Library of Conress. Amazon com lists a publisher for that title which has been in business for 200 years. The error lies in the information about the title. The ISBN is false and the publisher is false (Bridge Publications is the publisher). Terryeo 08:00, 20 August 2006 (UTC)

From pg.899 of What is Scientology (hardbound) published by Bridge Publications Inc. ISBN 1573180785 (listed LOC by that number), copyright 1998 I quote the following text. History of Man. Published by the Hubbard Association of Scientologists, London, July 1952. It contained the same text as in What to Audit. A later edition was entitled Scientology: A History of Man, which is its current title, as published today by Bridge Publications and New Era Publications. translations: French, German and Italian. Looking on amazon.com I find: amazon.com 15 listings, amazon.com and amazon.com Terryeo 04:37, 18 August 2006 (UTC)

Just incredible, just incredible ! There are so many, unattributed, uncited false statements in the article. Besides, this sucker ought to be merged with that other sucker, History of Man since both articles claim to use the same source of information, however badly misprepresented.
