Untitled[edit]

In the article on The Glebe, Ottawa, Ontario, there is an editorial note stating that Ottawa may be the only city known to have a significant district named "The Glebe". This is semi-correct. However, there are several cities around the world with districts and neighbourhoods called "Glebe" (without the "The"). These include: Hobart, Newcastle and Sydney in Australia, Newcastle-upon-Tyne in England, Dublin in Ireland and Durban in South Africa. There are also neighbourhoods called Glebe Manors and Glebewood Village in Arlington, Virginia and Glebe Heights in Anne Arundel, Maryland. (Ian Kendall, Melbourne, Australia, August 2004).

I made a small change, adding "currently suspended" to the line describing the Renegades present status.--ScotchWhisky 22:06, 29 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

List of businesses[edit]

Do we really need the list of businesses? It doesn't really seem very encyclopedic to me.--Cjrother (talk) 03:26, 7 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]

This article relies largely or entirely upon a single source[edit]

With two exceptions, everything in this article either cites a single article that ran in the Ottawa Journal in June 1969, or is uncited. Thus, I've tagged the article accordingly.

Surely we can find more sources for our facts about The Glebe?

Following up on the comment above re a single (very dated) source: the description of The Glebe being mostly composed of families with services oriented towards children is also out of date (it was true in the 70s & 80s, but to a declining degree since). I have not looked at census data for the entire Glebe, but for one census dissemination area that I looked at (disclosure: the one I grew up in in the 1980s), there are now more people in their 70s than there are children under 14. Re the following passage in the first paragraph of the History section:

When the area was opened for development in 1870, real estate agents began to refer to it simply as "The Glebe". The initial area was bounded by Carling Avenue and Fifth Avenue on the north and south sides, and Main Street and Bronson Avenue as the eastern and western limits.

Could the reference to "Carling Avenue" could be replaced with "Carling Avenue (now Glebe Avenue East of Bronson)"? (I believe what is now Glebe Ave used to be the continuation of Carling, East of Bronson.)

Also: I suspect "Main Street" was the old name for another street in The Glebe (likely O'Connor, Bank or Lyon, or possibly Percy), which could be tagged similaarly.

But I can find on-line references/maps for neither of these suggestions. Can anyone help? 2607:FEA8:C260:200:655A:A6B3:F84A:793 (talk) 23:18, 29 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]
