Channel 4 link[edit]

Precursor[edit]

The comment "Jim Henson's late-night precursor to Sesame Street and the Muppet Show, got its start on WRC-TV on May 9, 1955." is inaccurate. Jim Henson's Muppets achieved their first celebrity status by appearing on WRC-TV in the middle-1950s and by appearing in a memorable series of commercials for local coffee brand Wilkins. The Muppets were attuned to adult sensibilities. In the late 1960s, when Sesame Street was first aired, the Muppets were repurposed as gentle creatures who could relate well to children. The Muppet Show came a decade or more after the Muppets were established on Sesame Street. It was targeted to both children and adults. --72.75.101.46 15:59, 4 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

As discussed on your talk page, this is a schedule of newscasts and programs produced by and broadcast on WRC-TV. There is no syndicated programming (ie: Dr. Phil) and network programming (ie: My Name is Earl). Dates for Willard Scott playing "Bozo the Clown"[edit]

According to WRC-TV's official website history here, Scott played Bozo the Clown "1959 to 1964". Accordingly, I have (again) corrected the date "1962" to 1964. For those who believe that WRC-TV is incorrect, what is your source? JGHowes talk - 04:34, 24 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

WRC-TV's website is incorrect. It's been well documented that Scott debuted as Ronald McDonald in 1963, after WRC-TV's Bozo show was cancelled. Scott himself chronicals in his book "America is my Neighborhood" how his debut as Ronald evolved from Bozo after his Bozo show, which was sponsored by a local McDonald's franchise, was cancelled. In fact, the following historical Washington, D.C. kids' TV website lists not only the year but the month Willard Scott's Bozo began and ended here and here. IMDB (The Internet Movie Database) also states that WRC-TV's Bozo show ended in 1962 here. McDonald's official website states that Scott debuted as Ronald in 1963 here as does "The Joy Boys" website here. The case study "A McDonald’s Family Challenges the Status Quo" also states that WRC-TV's Bozo show was cancelled in 1962 here. WIKIPEDIA STRIKES AGAIN![edit]

Regarding my edit of 19 Aug 2007, 21:55 GMT, from IP 72.147.17.171

Once again, Wikipedia shows just how accurate and reliable it is. Sinbad is dead! John Siegenthaler killed JFK! And J-Lo's kid sister was a news reporter when she was barely a teeny-bopper! Wikipedia strikes again!

I'm not going to get into a revert war over this point; my only reason for making the edit in the first place was to test how long it would take a wikidiot to revert it. Pretty quick response -- it took only two minutes for Daven200520 to restore the article to its pristine and inaccurate state. However, the two L.Ls you've stated as being the same person are not at all the same. I lived in DC for several years, and personally knew WRC's L.L. (who has returned to TX, where she grew up). They are definitely not the same person.

But you don't have to take my word for it. Check out your article on WNYW's Lynda Lopez, and you'll see that she was born in 1973 ... which means that if she was the same person who worked at WRC starting in 1986, she would have had to have been 13 years old at the time. Even if IMDB, which lists her as having been born in 1971, is correct, this would mean that she was 15 years old when she began working as a reporter at a major network franchise in the nation's capitol. I consider IMDB the more reliable source than Wikipedia, since -- unlike Wikipedia -- they at least try to do some rudimentary fact-checking before inserting content. But still, this would mean that someone barely old enough for high school was doing news stories on Congress, the White House, etc. for a major news market. That's pretty damned impressive!

I'm still trying to decide which is more hilarious; the first idiot who assumed that there's only one Lynda Lopez in the world and linked the two together, or the second idiot who assumed that any new information from an unsigned user is false. Neither bothered to take a quick glance at the dates. Neither bothered to do a quick Google search, which would have revealed (among other things) these links:

Instead, I'm going to tell this story around to every "Wikipedia sucks" site I can, and just add fuel to the growing public awareness that Wikipedia is a pile of crap. I expected the revert to happen, but I also expected that it might take several hours ... but two minutes?! Current News 4 anchors[edit]

I'm confused by by this entry:

  • Craig Melvin - To Be Weekend Morning Anchor/Weekday Reporter
    • What does "To Be" mean? Planned? If not currently an anchor, should he really be in this list?
    • The capitalization of titles for this entry doesn't match those of other entries in the list.
    • There's already an entry for Weekend morning anchor - Keith Garvin (see entry, below) - what's happening to him? Or will there be two such anchors?
  • Keith Garvin - Weekend morning anchor/reporter; weekday fill-in anchor

As I have not lived in the D.C. area for a long time, I'm not familiar with the current situation at WRC-TV to make an informed edit, but the foregoing suggest the entry for Craig Melvin could be either be improved or removed. Thanks, --Joe Sperrazza (talk) 16:51, 31 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

The second paragraph mentions David Gregory and Andrea Mitchell being based out of WRC-TV. Should Chris Matthews and Norah O'Donnell (the Chief Washington correspondent for NBC) be added to this list?

Significant trimming of Former Staff section[edit]

I just cut everyone out of the alumni section that does not have their own Wikipedia page or have a reference to establish their notability. This is the current consensus procedure, based on discussions at WP:WikiProject Television Stations and at [the Village Pump]. The rationales are as follows:

  1. Most importantly, per WP:NOT, Wikipedia is "not an indiscriminate collection of information." As that section describes, just because something is true, doesn't necessarily mean the info belongs in Wikipedia.
  2. Secondarily, per WP:V, we cannot include information that is not verifiable and sourced. I'm not certain how it would even be possible to source this information.
  3. Per WP:BLP, we have to be especially careful about including un-sourced info about living persons.

All of the people with their own pages are notable enough to appear on this list. However, if you look at pages about companies in general, you will not find mention of previous employees, except in those cases where the employee was particularly notable. Even then, the information is not presented just as a list of info, but is incorporated into the text itself (for example, when a company's article talks about the policies a previous CEO had, or when they mention the discovery/invention of a former engineer/researcher). The two former staff w/o pages I left were Wally Bruckner, as there was a reference (not one that would justify him having his own page, but enough to belong here) and Bryson Rash, who seemed notable enough as an original anchor and being directly related to the Peabody Award won by the station. I'd still prefer a reference (thus, the cn tag) but the Peabody Award article at least confirms that WRC-TV did win that award. Qwyrxian (talk) 06:41, 5 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]
