importance of mechanical engineer in construction

I believe the introduction could be improved greatly.

  • The first citation is Reference.com's definition of "mechanical"... not even "mechanical engineering"
  • If we are going to use Reference.com, we might as well use it for the first sentence of the entire page: " Mechanical Engineering is the branch of engineering that enables design, production and operation of machinery and tools. " Fractal618 (talk) 03:19, 27 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]

I believe that this sentence is not neutral: "He is also considered to be the inventor of such mechanical devices which now form the very basic of mechanisms, such as the crankshaft and camshaft." Areas of Research[edit]

FEA - Very little description on what FEA solves for other than "structural analysis". More description about the specific goals of these methods can be added. (deflection of solid body, different types of stresses). Additionally, there is very little mention of how these meshes are used. Perhaps adding information about convergence of analysis leading to certainty, since too small of a mesh may not result in results that model a part or system in the real world.Cole2R (talk) 20:16, 4 September 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Suggested addition for an introduction sentence: "Finite Element Analysis is a computational tool used to estimate stress, strain, and deflection of solid bodies. Biomechanics - I believe some information should be added to the biomechanics section to talk about not just using mechanics in the biological field, but reverse engineering nature. There is a lot of research currently underway on the properties of spider webs and bone matter. Both are considerably stronger (found in nature) then current human made counterparts. For example, Bone Mass is over 5 times as strong as steel per unit of weight when dealing with compressive stress, while being slightly stronger in terms of tensile stress.Cole2R (talk) 19:17, 4 September 2018 (UTC)[reply]

What does everyone think about adding something like this to biomechanics section?: "In the past decade, reverse engineering of materials found in nature such as bone matter has gained funding in academia. The structure of bone matter is optimized for its purpose of bearing a large amount of compressive stress per unit weight. Mechatronics - This section was just adjusted slightly by me. Previous information was inaccurate. More information could/should be added about the sensors that can be used to implement mechatronic concepts. Picture in the lead[edit]

Why is an ENIAC computer used to illustrate this topic? ENIAC was used for much more computationally intensive tasks than the mechanical design of the time. Some simple analog devices would be a better symbol if the 1950s is what we are about. Викидим (talk) 02:48, 30 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
