Untitled[edit]

Is this singular or plural? It has been used both ways in this article: "audio-animatronics is..."; (para 1); "audio-animatronics were" (para 2). Parallels with "robotics", "electronics", "mathematics", etc, suggest that it should be singular, and I have written the Wiktionary entry accordingly. — Paul G

This article begs some reference to the iconic "Pirates of the Caribbean".

Link removal and subsequent replacement[edit]

I removed a link that appeared to be non-notable, then restored it when I was convinced of its notability. See Talk:Robot for the entire discussion. The relevant part was this:

I didn't know about the alternate URLs for your site when I removed it from the Audio-Animatronics page. Since it's a much more specialized subject, the threshold for notability would be correspondingly lower, and I'd say your link could go back there. Feel free to put it back. (Edit: I've put it back myself, and I'll copy the relevant bits of this conversation over to its talk page.) "Robot" is a much wider topic, and I think it would be best to keep it free of "fringe" links like yours. --Ashenai 21:43, 10 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

who keeps removing Superstar Limo, it had AA figures, just not advanced aa figures like Lincoln.
Actually, no... Superstar Limo had no true AA's, just as Snow White and Mr. Toad don't have true AA's. Superstar Limo only had the equivalent to Disney Store figures that moved, like Disneyland's Winnie The Pooh Ride. Roz, in the Monsters Inc attraction, is the only true AA in the ride and Roz was added just for Monsters Inc and wasn't a converted 'moving figure' like the celebrities in SuperStar Limo. Anyhow, I added all the info about Tokyo's attractions as well. Hope this helps! --kayoss 08:56, 22 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Dancing Man[edit]

Disney's miniature "dancing man" figure developed from filmed footage of Buddy Ebsen generally is credited as a key milestone in the development of Audio-Animatronics [1] yet it's never mentioned here. —Whoville 19:06, 29 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

"Animatronics" is not a trademark[edit]

Animatronics redirects to this article, yet the word is not a trademark; "Audio-Animatronics" is. (1 related tradmark not owned by Disney shows up on a USPTO Search) Perhaps there should be a separate article for animatronics in general, or an expansion on non-Disney uses?

The word "Animatronics" did not exist before Disney invented the term "Audio-Animatronics". In other words, "Animatronics" is an abbreviation of "Audio-Animatronics". Whether the abbreviation is covered under the full trademark is something for lawyers and courts to decide. — Walloon 16:12, 30 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]
I agree on an expansion of non-Disney animatrons. Do other amusement parks and places besides Chuck E Cheese use them? Once there's sufficient material, then it could be spun off into its own main article. But first, content. TransUtopian 01:26, 12 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]
I agree that animatronic should be a seperate article. Animatronics is a term used in film to describe robotic props. King Mir 17:38, 30 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]
I agree that Animatronics needs its own article-it describes a concept that is used in various situations by various entities, but this article concentrates almost exclusively on Disney theme parks Oscillon (talk) 22:43, 14 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]
There is definitely enough material for a sperate article. There are so many companies that make animatronics. This includes Creative Engineering, Sally Corp., etc. Plus, there are many shows, such as the Rock-afire Explosion, Daniel and the Dixie Diggers, the Monkey Business Band, the Rock and Roll Rebellion, etc. Please make a seperate article. Plus, animatronic is a term word, not a trademark. Animatronic does not just refer to AUDIO animatronics, they can also refer to silent animatronics that are non-Disney related. Animatronic and audio- animatronic[edit]

The disney robots are differant from the motorized puppets used in filming of movies and TV shows such as jurassic park and walking with dinosaurs. Animatronic needs its own article because the two are distinct. T.Neo (talk) 10:36, 21 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Uncanny Valley[edit]

Does anybody think that some reference to the Uncanny Valley should be included? I don't know where the line from subjective to objective goes or if it's worth digging for a source that agrees with this, but I'm pretty sure the new AA in Pirates and possibly the new Presidents hit Uncanny Valley for me and others I've talked to. Just a thought. I can look for a source if others think there is a connection here, but I won't make any edits without some other thoughts on the topic, as I'm too new at this.
