I've looked at the Quebec National Assembly's biographical page for Nelson where they show his date of birth as 1793-08-08 and his date of death as 1873-03-01. Nevertheless, they give the age when he died as 79 years and 1 month. That age would be more consistent with the January 1794 date given in the article and in some other sources. The following answer has been received:

Plusieurs auteurs ont effectivement donné 1794 comme la date de naissance de Robert Nelson, mais, d?après les recherches récentes de Mary Soderstrom (Le Devoir, 8 août 1994), il serait né plutôt en août 1793, d?après une notice nécrologique écrite par son fils et une généalogie de la famille Nelson.

Nous avons utilisé la date du 8 août 1793, mais dans la notice nous n?avions effectivement pas corrigé son âge au décès. Il aurait eu 79 ans et 7 mois, ce qui est plus près de l?information qu?on trouve sur son monument funéraire, soit 80 ans.

I've just received the following correction:

Nous avons fait erreur dans le message qui vous a été adressé le 21 janvier dernier.

La date de naissance de Robert Nelson serait le 8 août 1794 et non 1793. Nous disons "serait" car cette information ne s'appuie pas sur un document officiel mais sur un texte de Mary Soderstrom publié dans le Devoir du 8 août 1994 pour rappeler le 200e anniversaire de la naissance de Nelson. Voir ci-dessous le texte de mme Soderstrom qui s'appuie sur des documents qui sont aux archives de Trois-Rivières mais que nous n'avons pas vérifiés.

Même Le dictionnaire de biographie canadienne prête comme date de naissance de Robert Nelson janvier 1794 et prétend que le nom de sa femme est inconnu. Pourtant, une note nécrologique écrite par son fils et une généalogie de la famille Nelson (maintenant dans les archives du Séminaire de Trois-Rivières), disent qu'il est né en août. La généalogie précise qu'il s'agirait du 8 août.
