Blacklisted for what?[edit]

It is absolutely fascinating that there is a section on Dassin being blacklisted, and several references to it regarding his European career, and absolutely zero context provided for why he was blacklisted.

The blacklist wasn't created ex nihilo to persecute poor innocent creatives, it was a response to a Soviet-funded and -directed infiltration of Hollywood in order to insert propaganda into US films and sow discord in the nation. In this witch hunt, there actually were real witches. Now, I don't know about Dassin in particular, but if Edward Dmytryk, the only one of the "Hollywood Ten" to recant his ties to CPUSA, said that Dassin was ... let us say "not innocent" in the matter, then he isn't really an innocent victim. (Unlike others who were smeared unjustly in the hysteria of the time.)

And before anybody gets high and mighty and decries the act of blacklisting, remember that at least one of the "Hollywood Ten", Dalton Trumbo, bragged about getting wrongthinkers like Arthur Koestler blacklisted from Hollywood work prior to his own blacklisting.

I guess it's only bad when communists are the victims, though.

Untitled[edit]

The first line of the edit history reads:

19:25, Jul 16, 2004 Dcljr (this is Ahoerstemeier's 06:45, 13 Apr 2004 version of the page).

What does that mean? I only looked up the edit history because I remember reading a much longer article on Dassin which also included two black and white photos. Was that somewhere else? |l'KF'l| 09:58, Sep 14, 2004 (UTC)

The longer version of the article was a copyright violation. You can see it at the All-Movie Guide [1]. The reason the history starts like that is, I listed the article at Wikipedia:Copyright problems and created a "/Temp" version of the article using the last non-copyright-vio version (the edit by Ahoerstemeier); eventually someone moved the Temp page back to the main article. - dcljr 01:33, 21 Sep 2004 (UTC)

Biography section copyright violation[edit]

With due respect to those of you who worked to improve user:Gryspnik's edit of 02:57, 2 April 2008, that edit was an apparent WP:COPYVIO (see this article, dated Mar 31, 2008). Also, that was the second time Gryspnik made that same copyvio, without any explanation, after I'd removed it for that same reason the day before. So, I'm removing that section, again, to conform to WP policy. However, it would be good to see this article expanded respectfully with appropriately encyclopedic text and with cited sources. --Rich Janis (talk) 02:51, 25 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]
