I play video games plenty, but I'm not the stereotypical anime-loving, storyline-obsessed person which may come to mind when one thinks of the term "gamer". No, I play for gameplay and fun most of the time. I get annoyed with people who seem to care only for the story in games that are noted for their gameplay experience (i.e. Legend of Zelda).

I also don't care much for fanboys and their generally closed-minded view of the world. If you love someone's work a lot, great, but don't act like they owe you something just because you're a "fan" of theirs. For example, if you love Zelda, don't assume that your perception of it (e.g. that it should look "realistic" and take itself seriously) is the only one, and that if Miyamoto decides to change an aspect of the game, then he is somehow "selling out". Never forget that a creator should have final say in their own work. If you don't like something, you have the option of not buying it. It also would do well to put yourself in someone else's perspective, to see how they must feel creating works from their own imagination and having people hound them left and right to do it one way or another.

And yes I do watch some anime, though only when I find one I particularly get into. Many are either too silly, or going in the opposite direction, too dire and/or complex, for my tastes. I do however currently enjoy the anime Great Detectives Poirot and Marple, which is about Agatha Christie's detective characters of the same name. It's not dead serious, nor is it silly, it's fairly light but tells a fun, engaging story.

It might seem to some that I have limited tastes, but I think I can be fairly open-minded. I gave Donkey Kong Jungle Beat, Katamari Damacy and Electroplankton a try despite being initially skeptical of how these games could possibly be long-lasting or even fun. I like original ideas, if done well.

I am a strong believer in equality through preserverance and trying hard. That's why events such as Katie Brownell's perfect game impress me so much, even though I otherwise have little interest in sports.

In fact, I find it interesting that the best golfer at the moment is black, while the best rapper is white. I don't think it's the world turning on its head. I think it's people who happen to have exceptional talent working hard and proving themselves. I love these kinds of success stories.
