Date of foundation?[edit]

There are 3 different dates in this article... "Norm Jansen founded the Boardwalk in 1977" - "Date opened - 1968" and "Major Renovations - 1966" ... how does that go together? --80.134.152.109 11:24, 28 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Article's name[edit]

I moved this from Boardwalk (hotel and casino) to Boardwalk Hotel and Casino because the latter appears to be an official name, at least according to the website, and we always prefer an official name over a disambiguated form. Nohat 07:45, 24 Mar 2005 (UTC)

Holiday Inn[edit]

Does anyone know the Holiday Inn history at this location. I though it was still a Holiday Inn at the close, but the article says otherwise. Vegaswikian 22:18, 10 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Incorrect Timeline and History of Holiday Inn South and One-time Owner[edit]

The Holiday Inn South was purchased by the owner of the adjacent property to the South, next door, Norm W. Jansen, who owned the small casino the 'Slot Joynt'. However, that too is somewhat misleading in that it was his wife Avis P. Jansen that technically owned the property as it had gaming, thus requiring a gaming license, and since Norm (Norbert) Jansen had a prior, serious felony conviction, he was not allowed to own, and/or enter the casino cage, and he was sanctioned at least once by Gaming control officers for violating this limitation. He did however, serve as the Chairman of the Board and be default, as the acknowledged owner.

Jansen had for years wanted to purchase the Holiday Inn South, a non-gaming hotel, and develop it into a major Strip casino. He purchased the small hotel and re-named it the Boardwalk Hotel and Casino and eventually built an adjoining tower with approximately 400 rooms (adding to the approximately 250 in the smaller, original tower to the North and one to the rear, adjacent to the now defunct Dunes golf course, to better compete with the major Strip properties. At one point, Jansen had re-named it the Viscount Hotel and Casino, however, that was short-lived. Throughout his purchase and re-development of the property, Jansen maintained the Holiday Inn affiliation until the hotel casino's closure and subsequent demolition.

The current article has several incorrect pieces of information and several omissions of key information regarding the property and it's history. Several articles have now cited the incorrect information listed within this article.

Norbert Jansen died of cancer January 7, 1997. DupaloMD (talk) 11:38, 22 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]

DupaloMD, what you've written here is the first logical timeline I've seen connecting the Holiday Inn with Slot Joynt, Viscount and Boardwalk. I hope you can update the history section on this page, as the current article is lacking. 76.175.164.96 (talk) 19:34, 17 January 2015 (UTC)[reply]
DuplaloMD and 76.175.164.96, I went ahead and expanded the history of the Boardwalk slightly based off a few sites I was able to gather information from. I tried to make it as accurate as I could. The hotel definitely opened in the mid-1960s, but it is still unclear if the casino founding year is accurate, as well as whether it was connected to the hotel before both went public in the 1990s.
