New External Link[edit]

Would anyone mind if I add a external link to the Age of Empires Wiki page on it? Ajraddatz (talk | contribs) 20:04, 30 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

As already noted, I do. Links to wikis are discouraged in our external links guideline. --Dirk Beetstra T C 20:17, 30 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

AofE[edit]

This game is never refered to as AofE, only AoE if abbreviated. Just google AofE and you will get a tonne of non Age of Empires related videos and downloads. I have changed the lead section to reflect this.

Compatibility Concerns[edit]

Because Age of Empires was released during the time of Windows 95 and 98, there is a possible risk that trying to install and play the game on later Operating Systems such as Me and XP might cause serious incompatibility problems. Can anyone verify this? --Arima (talk) 05:05, 5 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]

--I've had compatibility trouble. Specifically, multiplayer relies on DirectPlay, which I believe is not present in modern versions of DirectX. I set up a virtual machine with Windows XP Service Pack 2 specifically for this game, as I could not get it to work with Service Pack 3 or with later versions of Windows. I don't remember off the top of my head which DirectX versions those service packs use.-- (talk) 21:20, 26 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]

No compatibility issues on Me and Xp, but there are a couple of graphics issues on Windows 7 and 8 (nothing serious, they are easily fixed). Mod MMG (User Page) Reply on my talkpage. Do NOT click this link 12:58, 25 November 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Definitive Edition[edit]

@Neo-Jay: I do agree with you, but How is the Age of Empires official website more authorative than Microsoft when Age of Empires is owned and made by Microsoft? -NetWitz- 07:29, 16 October 2017 (UTC)NetWitz[reply]

@NetWitz: Well, maybe my phrase "more authoritative" is not so appropriate. But AoE's official website is specialized in this specific game and its staff may have more accurate information than Microsoft's general website. And AoE's official announcement gave more detailed explanation: "We don’t have a final release date to share quite yet, but are targeting early 2018." I think it's reliable. And just because the final release date has not yet be finally decided, Microsoft Store gives "December 2018" as the release date. If you still think that the release date "December 2018" in Microsoft Store should be included, then let's put the both dates (early 2018 and December 2018) and corresponding references into the article. Is that OK? --Neo-Jay (talk) 07:50, 16 October 2017 (UTC)[reply]
@Neo-Jay: ah ok thank you for clarifying, maybe put December 30, 2018 as a release deadline? -NetWitz- 08:23, 16 October 2017 (UTC)NetWitz[reply]
@NetWitz: Hi, how about this: I changed the content to "On October 13, the Definitive Edition's team announced that the release date was postponed and they were targeting early 2018, while Microsoft's Windows Store changed the release date to December 30, 2018 (US time)." Please feel free to modify it. Thank you.--Neo-Jay (talk) 08:54, 16 October 2017 (UTC)[reply]
@Neo-Jay: Perfect!! -NetWitz- 08:59, 16 October 2017 (UTC)NetWitz[reply]
