Isn't this also called Rodeo kayaking? Alex Krupp 04:05, Dec 18, 2004 (UTC)

Yes, I thought it was much less often used now (relegated to paragraph 7) but a few searches seem to show it is still widely used (presumably in America, cos not many paddlers in the uk call it rodeo anymore). Now fixed. Tebbb 00:58, 20 Dec 2004 (UTC)

Move List of Playspots to new page?-Reefsurfer226 19:11, 9 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

In New Zealand that's the mainly used term. Bennyboyz3000 03:03, 2 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

The picture of the "kickflip" is not a kickflip. A kickflip is initiated going downstream. In the picture, the boater is clearly surfing, so that would make it one of the combo moves. I forget the name -- maybe Pan Am. --Rhinosaur02 (talk) 02:10, 11 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

History[edit]

What about adding the history of the sport? —Preceding unsigned comment added by Wavesport1 (talkcontribs) 04:40, 4 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

What about the classic 80's rodeo moves? juggling, standing on heads, helicoptering... and the ultimate... the shudder rudder? 217.43.242.81 (talk) 18:46, 1 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Otherwise known as rodeo kayaking or goat boating. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 196.10.121.2 (talk) 08:05, 17 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Moves[edit]

The moves section could be re-organized; playboating moves can be grouped into:

  1. Flatwater tricks
  2. Downriver tricks
  3. Wave tricks
  4. Hole tricks

There are also several common tricks that have been left out. I plan to revamp this section with such an edit, but wanted to first comment on this idea here. Seek writ awe there (talk) 02:30, 20 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

YO!, where is the Helix, one of the mose amazign trick? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 128.43.63.254 (talk) 18:18, 4 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Some other common tricks that are not included:

  • Round House
  • Back Round House
  • Tricky Who
  • Lunar Orbit
  • Helix

I think that the "McBerg Twist" should be removed because of WP:UNDUE. The only references currently on the internet that reference this move are this article. Gcheval (talk) 15:43, 25 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]

"Bow stall" is missing[edit]

Bow stall

As mentioned right above, some moves/tricks are still missing, among them basic things like bow/stern stalls. As I'm not sure where to put it in the current system, I'm just mentioning it... and mentioning that there's also a picture on Commons now (in fact: two, but the other one is even worse :o))... so please go ahead and add the picture as well when you add the bow stall. Thanks, Ibn Battuta (talk) 10:53, 29 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Assessment comment[edit]

The comment(s) below were originally left at Talk:Canoe freestyle/Comments, and are posted here for posterity. Following several discussions in past years, these subpages are now deprecated. The comments may be irrelevant or outdated; if so, please feel free to remove this section.

Reads like a list, lacks decent pictures and adequate descriptions on individual "moves". Also absolutely no references when they are easy to find can't help. --Ben hello! 06:01, 30 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

New available pictures[edit]

Hi,

For your information, I've just uploaded on Commons ~120 new pictures of playboating that I've taken during the freestyle kayaking european cup. I'm not sure of the names of the tricks performed, that's why I will not add them myself, but take a look at this category if you want to update or add some photos to tricks: Category:Playboating at the Natural Games. See the galery bellow for a quick overview:

Scoring[edit]

This article needs a section on competition points systems IMHO. 173.30.68.254 (talk) 21:10, 8 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]
