Are Georgian and Augustan poetry the same thing? And is this the place for a description of Georgian poetry, rather than a link to the article on the subject? Deb 12:06, 25 Oct 2003 (UTC)

No - Augustan includes some Queen Anne, and gives out under George II? But Samuel Johnson might be a throw-back to the Augustan values.

If there were an Augustan poetry link or some such - yes, better to do it all by indirection. I didn't immediately see anything helpful.

A beginning

Well, not quite a beginning, but I thought this page could do with a general description of the period.

Obviously, a lot has been omitted at this stage – I am well aware that I have not mentioned the Romantics, nor the advances in science during this important period. Nor have I included the important contribution of Scots in the fields of medicine and engineering – all of which I hope to address quite soon. – Agendum 15:18, 17 May 2006 (UTC)

Got as far as mentioning the Romantics and adding a bit to Politics and social revolt (which I changed the title to). Willl soon add something about the Scots and a bit more about the political scene of the Whigs and Tories. Anyone else got any ideas about other things that could be added? – Agendum 16:01, 27 April 2007 (UTC)

Duplicate?

Should Georgian period in British history be merged/redirected to this one? I was going to replace the "british period article" with a redirect, but it makes reference to the regency period which this article does not.

Yes, I think that would be a reasonable course of action. I guess that Georgian era is a better (and less cumbersome) description. Perhaps we could incorporate mention of the Regency period in the existing article. – Agendum 16:04, 6 September 2006 (UTC)

Confusing?

does the latter part of the first sentence of the "Social Change" section make any sense? -- "It was a time of immense social change in Britain, with the beginning and other parts of the British Empire." -- the begininng of immense social change? the beginning of the British Empire? was the British Empire divided into "parts" in the Georgian era? Nearly three years on, and this sentence is unchanged and has just confused me too. The section has been renamed to 'Religious and social change' since the above comment 82.10.50.11 (talk) 12:16, 11 June 2012 (UTC)

OK, I've just fixed it, I think. It was the beginning of one sentence spliced to the end of another sentence several lines down. Compared versions until I found the edit from 2007 that had produced the nonsense. Copied and pasted back in the text which was deleted. 82.10.50.11 (talk) 12:53, 11 June 2012 (UTC)

2nd Georgian Era?

Wasn't there a Second Georgian Era, from 1910 to 1952, incorporating the reigns of George V and George VI with the brief interregnum of Edward VIII in 1936, thus providing a bridge from the Edwardian Era to the New [current] Elizabethan Era? If not, why? Shanoman (talk) 05:40, 6 April 2010 (UTC)

lead section

I redid the lead section because it was quite badly formatted with over-long sentences and misuse of commas. I didn't change the basic content, however, which I note is not a proper lead, i.e. it doesn't summarize the article's contents. BY THE WAY is the statement about the Victorian era extending into Edward VII's reign correct? Sounds iffy to me. In any case I wonder that it even belongs in this article, much less the opening.
