  • Keep. Much more notable than most high schools[1] (article also has link to Forbes mag article) and article has been expanded since it was nominated. Newcomer's first article that now has a speedy tag claiming the info is untrue, but I could verify all of it except the bit about how many students attended the first year, and given the current # of students, 200 seems likely. I've changed the tag back to VfD. I was even able to confirm that Alex Dodge[2][3], at least, while not notable, does attend the school. Niteowlneils 23:59, 1 Nov 2004 (UTC)
I agree. When I posted the 'speedy' tag, the contents of the article was:
"Many people have died to get the information here, please take a second to remember them. Little is known about High Tech High because the students that attend it are forbidden to talk about the events at the school at home. If it is learned that a student has divulged information regarding the operations and events that take place inside the school doors, the students memories will be altered."
You can see why I would put a reason of 'untrue' in the 'deletereason' tag, but the article has since expanded, and seems to be factual now. neutral.CB Droege 02:19, 2 Nov 2004 (UTC)

  • Delete or redirect to San Diego, California. Let those who know the school and those who know San Diego judge notability and hash it out accordingly. I 1) merged the information into San Diego, California using the exact text of the last edit by BBoard12, 2) put a careful description of the origin of the text into Talk:San Diego, California, preserving GFDL-traceability, and 3) then edited the text to clean it up and shorten it. I believe this is a GFDL-OK merge and that either merge-and-delete or merge-and-redirect are now possible. If people want to edit it out of San Diego, California, the text will remain in the history for San Diego, California and will be available for inspection or restoration at any time.   • Keep. Even might make the notable test that RickK is so fond of. I'm sure someone interested in project based learning who has more time then I do will make the article better with time.   • Inadequate description of notability, insufficient for an article on its own. If left in the San Diego article, really needs to be cleaned up. How about a table - school name, type, founded, number of students? I'd prefer to have an overview description of the education system (e.g. San Diego has X school districts with Y elementary schools and Z high schools, see Education in San Diego for further details) Average Earthman 10:06, 2 Nov 2004 (UTC)
  • Comment. I have completed my first round of trying to make the article more properly describe what the school actually is, what makes it unusual, and what makes it notable (not many schools get major financial support from the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, for starters).     • Your first point is probably valid. I think your second is uncalled for. Nobody can be an expert on everything, and the first incarnation of the article was awful and did not make it clear that the school was notable. So RickK did exactly what he should have done. He brought it here for discussion, and people interested in and knowledgeable about schools determined that it is actually notable. And the result is... it will be kept. Nominating something for Vfd should not be regarded as a hostile act. When you nominate something for speedy deletion, you ought to be pretty darned sure it's really a Speedy candidate, but it's perfectly OK to nominate things for VfD just because they look like they're probably deletable.       • I can't speak for [User:Radman1|RaD Man]], but I found out that it's notable by researching it myself. I think anyone who wanted to know whether it's notable would be able to find out after a couple minutes of searching for information, and I'm a bit disturbed that several people apparently voted here before doing so themselves. Considering the current size of VfD, I think it would be an especially good idea for nominators to check the topic of an article before listing it here. I realize that this is not required by policy; I simply think it would be a sensible thing to do. Factitious 22:42, Nov 5, 2004 (UTC)
        • I couldn't have said it better than Factitious. Meaningful dialogue is fine and well, but this is a classic example of how VfD is turning into a huge administrative waste of time and effort because proper research isn't being done before something is VfD'd. This is time that could and should be spent improving articles rather than trying to prove relevancy or notability to a faction of bureaucrats.   • Keep and Rename and Clean up. Notable for 1) interesting project-based approach, 2) national attention, 3) high-profile sponsorship and funding. (I wonder if they use MetaWiki to work on the book?) That said, it still needs work to 1) have the article name be the official name of the institution, and 2) rework the advertising into NPOV.
