Speed range[edit]

I changed the average speed range from 20-60 km/h to 21-45 km/h, which seems much more indicative of the normal wing. I also added the equivalent range in mph.

For consistency, all the metric data should also probably be presented in the English system to make the data more meaningful to more people.—Preceding unsigned comment added by 24.190.28.92 (talk) 12:04, 18 September 2007‎ (UTC)[reply]

SIV[edit]

I came to this article to find out what "SIV" stood for in "SIV training", but it wasn't mentioned. I finally discovered this BHPA document which expands it as the French "Simulation d'Incident en Vol". I wanted to record that here in case the Instruction section of this article is ever expanded to include SIV training. -- ToE 01:00, 25 August 2017 (UTC)[reply]

I question whether paragliding should be described as an extreme sport. What's extreme about it? Any thoughts?Manormadman (talk) 09:33, 4 January 2019 (UTC)[reply]

As a veteran of both hang gliding and paragliding, I would agree with you. Neither one should be considered "extreme", although we need a reliable source to cite indicating as much.62.175.36.11 (talk) 17:31, 6 September 2019 (UTC)[reply]

World Records: Highest Flight/Gain of Height?[edit]

The article gives the record for the highest flight as 8,157 m (26,762 ft): Antoine Girard; Broad Peak (Pakistan). What about Ewa Wiśnierska, who reached an altitude of 9,946 metres (32,631 ft), according to her GPS, at Manilla, New South Wales, Australia, on 14 February 2007? And gain of height record is given as 5,700 m (18,700 ft): Antoine Girard (France); Aconcagua (Argentina); 15 February 2019. From the highest launching point near Manilla, Mt Borah at 880m (2,700 ft) to her highest alitude of 9,946m (32,631 ft), Wiśnierska had a height gain of 9,066m (29,931 ft). Even if these are not official records, being accidental due to being caught in a thunderstorm on a practice flight, surely they rate a mention, being the highest known flight and the greatest known gain of height. Re: Ewa Wiśnierska, this is akin to giving the Titanic an award for the deepest diving submarine. Rowan Forest (talk) 14:50, 30 September 2019 (UTC)[reply]
