Untitled[edit]

"Clodius Albinus was proclaimed Roman Emperor upon the assassination of Commodus by the legions in Britain and Spain." This is ambiguous: Did the legions assassinate Commodus? Or did the legions proclaim Clodius emperor?

The legions proclaimed Albinus emperor. Everyking 22:26, 17 Oct 2004 (UTC)

Contradiction[edit]

This article appears to contradict what is said at the Pertinax and Septimius Severus articles. According to those Pertinax was followed by Septimius as emperor. I have found no reference to this person being Roman Emperor at the Roman Empire page, so I must presume this article is incorrect, unless someone would like to correct me. Albinus was an emperor during the civil war of 193-197, although for part of that period he was allied with Severus and did not claim the title. Severus is generally considered the emperor during the civil war just because he was the one who held Rome, but there were also Albinus and Pescennius Niger in power in much of the west and east respectively. Ursurper[edit]

I have added the title "Usurper of the Roman Empire" as it is used in the Pescennius_Niger article. Clodius is also listed in the List of Roman usurpers. Manfi 16:25, 17 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Dubious[edit]

The article says he was "a skilful gladiator": Does that mean one of these? Or is it a reference to prowess with a sword? It needs clarifying, as (I would have thought) the former would be unlikely. Moonraker12 (talk) 17:39, 28 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]

It's a piece of colourful prose carried over from an old source text. I will remove it. 81.99.182.245 (talk) 20:45, 26 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]
