Renaming[edit]

How about renaming this page to List of Indians by state to be consistent with the List of Indians name. Jay 18:21, 4 Jan 2004 (UTC)

'List of people by India state' is consistent with List of people by US state. The term 'Indian' in US is also used to refer to native Americans or Red Indians. Also List of Americans for instance, is a redirect to List of people from the United States - Hemanshu 18:26, 4 Jan 2004 (UTC)

The second argument makes sense. But the current title is wrong grammatically. It can be renamed to List of people by Indian state

On 2nd thoughts, if no one has a problem with List of Indians why would anyone have a problem with List of Indians by state ? Also List of people by US state is not a standard, but rather an exception. They had to make it that way because Americans can be people belonging to N. and S. American continents. Some suggested names:

List of Indians by state - as proposed by Jay
List of people by state in India
List of people by Indian state - newer suggestion
List of people from India by state - as proposed by Hemanshu
Another suggestion is simply "List of people from India" merger if the article already exists as I suspect.
