Should the proposed flag of the United Cyprus Republic be added in these listings? Or should only flags actually in use be put here?

Gold or Yellow??[edit]
As indicated on Wikipedia:Pages needing attention, this list was formerly on 8 separate articles titled like List of flags with red. Back in those days, the title of the yellow list was List of flags with yellow, not "List of flags with gold". When they got merged, it stayed that way for a while, but then somebody changed "yellow" to "gold". Now, people are using Gold and Yellow as 2 separate lists. What's happening?? - The note under "gold" says: «Note that in heraldry, the term "Gold" is used to signify an area with the color yellow». AFAIK this is correct and I understand it as that flags like Spain's (with a large yellow area) belongs to "Gold", while flags like Portugal's (simply some yellow details) belong to "yellow". - Everything is going to require a case by case basis reguardless of the colors. But having a "Gold or Yellow" catigory, by combining the 2, we could eliminate the discussion over how much contitutes "a large yellow area" and we could easily classify the flags together and a case by case basis would require so much effort to determine.Cavebear42 18:33, 2 Sep 2004 (UTC)

Any objections??[edit]
Now it appears most likely that Gold/Yellow should be merged into a single category. Any Wikipedian who objects?? 66.32.242.243 23:39, 2 Sep 2004 (UTC)
- The only possible difficulty is the Green/White/Orange of Ireland which is often referred to as Gree/White/Gold. Clearly the Gold isn't yellow in this case! We may be able to circumvent this by decalring the supplanting of orange with gold as POV as some argue this was originally to avoid connotations with the Orangemen (though ironically the flag's design was to include the protestant (orange) and catholic (green) traditions). However "Green/White/Gold" seems to be said now widely in respect of the flag with blind innocence due to common usage. I know this is something easily got over, but I thought it might be an interesting point of potential confusion ;) Dainamo 22:18, 5 Sep 2004 (UTC)

- Heraldically, gold and yellow are equivalent; in many flags it's not really possible to say whether gold or yellow is meant. This is the rationale for unifying the gold and yellow sections. Orange is a different color altogether (so the Irish example given above is really not heraldically correct). --Marnen Laibow-Koser (talk) 20:01, 25 Oct 2004 (UTC)

A Call for a TOTAL change to this page[edit]
I really think it would be more useful and effective to present flags by colour-combination for example:
One Colour Flags:
- Green:
- Libya
Two Colour Flags:
- Green/White:
- Nigeria
Three Colour Flag
- Green/White/Red
- Hungary
- Italy
It might be even better to first subset by flag design e.g.
- tricolor (vertical)
- tricolor (horizontal)
- crosses
- multistripe
etc.
In this was an easy referenece to identify a flag is born with all the infomration given here and more.

List of flags by design (tricolor, crosses, multistripe etc) might be an interesting page to make -- go right ahead and create it. But it wouldn't be *this* page, which is titled list of flags by *color*. :-) Aris Katsaris 15:35, 6 Sep 2004 (UTC)

Important News[edit]
Just over 2 years ago, these lists were created in separate articles List of flags with blue, List of flags with red, etc. Then, it was decided to merge all the lists into one. Now, however, the article is beginning to grow big that I think it's time to know if anyone has any opinions about splitting the sections back into separate articles. Anyone have any opinions yet?? - I very much agree about the pictures — I don't really see the point of this page as it stands. Even if split up, I wonder why, for example, "flags with blue in them" is an interesting category: it seems much too broad. On the other hand, Gallery of solid flags#Blue actually is a potentially interesting category in terms of color symbolism, I think; at least, at a practical level, it's a set of flags that might be confused with one another (see also Gallery of confusable flags). My suggestion would be to do away with this long list, and concentrate on re-organizing the material under Gallery of flags by design by color (it's currently mostly alphabetical by name of entity the flag refers to). --ScottMainwaring 17:19, 8 March 2007 (UTC)

Take the entries for Australian Aboriginal Flag, as illustrated above. This flag has three colours. For two of these it's piped to "Flag of the Aboriginals", but for one colour it isn't piped. Clearly, it should be treated the same way in all three cases, but I'm not sure which way is the better.
Not all entries in the list really represent inconsistencies; if one article (like Flag of Algeria, also illustrated above) covers two or more flags ("Flag of Algeria" (no pipe) and the "Naval Ensign of Algeria" (piped)), it is listed below as an inconsistency, though it really isn't. (In this particular case, the two flags are similar and use the same set of colours, so one pipe like "Flag of Algeria, and Naval Ensign of Algeria" might help unclutter the article - I'm not sure about that.)
In a case like commons:File:Flag of Jihad.svg, also illustrated above, the reason it appears in the list below is that one flag appears under two different names ("Flag of Islamic Khilafah" and "Flag of Jihad"). Perhaps it should; perhaps it shouldn't - I'll leave that for others to decide.
Feel free to see the list below as a "to-do-list"; i.e., if you find flags (like Flag of Algeria) without real inconsistencies, please remove them from the list below -- and if you fix inconsistencies like the one for Australian Aboriginal Flag, please remove that too, below.--Nø (talk) 08:46, 11 April 2022 (UTC)

As a table?[edit]
Would it be more useful to represent this data as a sortable table? The columns would be
- Flag (graphics)
- Name (text/link)
- Black
- Brown
- Blue
- Gold/Yellow
- Green
- Maroon
- Orange
- Pink
- Purple/Lilac
- Red/Magenta

- Gray
Apart from the first two columns, each column would simply contain an "X". Sorting on the column "Green" (say), all the flags with green would be collected at the top or bottom of the table. Gay and Lesbian flags[edit]
Hi all,
I'm considering adding the gay and lesbian flags in addition to the bisexual/pansexual/asexual flags. There is a lot of controversy due to the number, but I feel that adding the 8-bar pride (LGBT pride) 6-stripe Rainbow flag (LGBT), 2017 progress pride (maybe), and either the orange stripe or pink stripe (possibly both?) lesbian flags would be a useful addition Lesbian flags. There are a lot, so I don't want to make this edit without someone else weighing in, I don't want to fill up the page too much.
