I notice you add a lot of good info to Ashoka, but some of it's just too detailed for that article, which should just concentrate on the period of his own life. We have many related articles that could use expansion with that kind of detail, though, such as Sunga dynasty. Everyking 11:01, 13 Sep 2004 (UTC)

almost all the info in "ashoka" has been put by me.half of it was when i didnt know about accounts in wikipedia.....and the others are registered as my contribution.but James everyking u kinda rob me of my hard work by shamelessly changing things. but then, its for the holistic good.keep up ur work.

plus people who say that Ashoka the Great preached Theravada Buddhism, should check their history books.for reference, they might as well check http://www.buddha101.com. Ashoka was a complete Mahayana believer and his son Mahendra was no saint, just a preacher. He enjoyed all the princely sops. Even his edicts talk in a simple way of nirvana by Dhamma, something on which Mahayana sect focusses on.

If you'd like to add what you wrote about post-Ashoka India to another article, you can go to the page history and copy and paste it from there, so it certainly isn't robbed. It's just not really the right place to put it, same as we wouldn't want to go into 1990s Indian politics in the article on Nehru. You do indeed deserve credit for the majority of the article, though; it wasn't much before. I don't know enough about the Buddhism controversy to say anything about that, but you can discuss on the article's talk page. By the way, you can add a signature to the end of a message you write with four tildes (~). Everyking 16:40, 13 Sep 2004 (UTC)

Dear shubhajeet roy,

The http://www.buddha101.com website u provided was redirected to http://www.acay.com.au/~silkroad/buddha/buddhism_history.htm which was a Mahayanist biased personal website. Mahayana claimed Asoka belong to them, Theravada also claimed Asoka belong to them. To be technical correct we will have to use the name Vibhajyavada which was created & approved at the Third Council under the patronage of Asoka. Here an excerpt from a commercial encyclopedia (Microsoft Encarta):

http://uk.encarta.msn.com/encyclopedia_761552895_2/Buddhism.html

"The third council at Pataliputra (present-day Patna) was called by King Ashoka in the 3rd century bc. Convened by the monk Moggaliputta Tissa, it was held in order to purify the sangha of the large number of false monks and heretics who had apparently joined the order because of its royal patronage. This council refuted the offending viewpoints and expelled those who held them. In the process, the compilation of the Buddhist scriptures (Tripitaka) was supposedly completed, with the addition of a body of subtle philosophy (abhidharma) to the doctrine (dharma) and monastic discipline (vinaya) that had been recited at the first council. Another result of the third council was the dispatch of missionaries to various countries."

Did Mahayana have Abhidharma?

best regards

copyright status of your images[edit]

I've noticed that you uploaded several images without any copyright tags that were simply copied off other webpages, without any further explanation or claim of fair use. Your picture of Ashoka, for example, was already deleted once as a copyvio. I'm not sure exactly how many images you have posted, or how many of those are valid in copyright status, but I'd like to resolve this situation so we can know that wikipedia's in the clear.

Should we just delete the images and find cleared ones, or have you cleared them with the owners of the websites and not informed anyone else? Night Gyr 07:59, 8 Feb 2005 (UTC)

Whatever I add is posted on Copyright free zones.Yes,I agree, some of them are from personal webpages, but mainly they are educative or government websites...and if there is even the slightest chance of cpyright infringement,I make it a point to inform the authorities beforehand..and if I dont get them,I dont post things harmful to the wikipedia. So my dear friend, no need to get worried...I am a serious wikizen.--Shubhajeet roy 15:41, 27 Feb 2005 (UTC)
