Hi Mark, I'd like to add my welcome too. It's always a hard introduction when a page you write gets listed on Votes for deletion, but don't let that put you off. I think your pages can be kept. The concern I had was whether we knew enough about these people to have whole articles yet, so your suggestion to merge them into one article on the competition seems an excellent suggestion. I have moved the discussion to Talk:Esat Young Scientist Exhibition. When the articles are merged into one, the originals can be made into redirects.
I am editing this page on an earlier version as you seem to have blanked the message Finlay left you. I didn't know whether this was intentional or not so I've reverted it temporarily. My personal feeling is that it's not a good idea to blank messages, but if you feel strongly otherwise, then in general users are allowed to do this, although see User talk:BuddhaInside for some discussion of the issue. Anyway, I hope you enjoy editing here and being a Wikipedian!

Microsoft page seems to have anti-microsoft propaganda[edit]
I'm no MS fan but there's a section on the Microsoft page that's really quite ridiculous:

After Microsoft officially discontinued support for DOS (in 1994) their main desktop operating systems (i.e. not Windows NT) all still relied on the DOS kernel (e.g. Windows 95, 98, ME).
Microsoft has actually only completely abandoned DOS recently with Windows XP, which uses the NT kernel. It is highly implausible that Microsoft would abandon the operating system they have tried so hard to become mainstream over the last decade immediately after its most successful incarnation.
Longhorn will almost certainly be an extension of Windows XP and Windows Server 2003.

This is the platform which is used by all software developers (directly or indirectly) for Windows NT/2000/XP/2003 systems. It is updated with every release, including the most recent one (Windows Server 2003) as a trip to MSDN would reveal.
I'm not going to edit this page myself as no doubt it would cause controversy. But much of the content is less than objective.

That comment is on the Microsoft page now but surprisingly no one has posted a reply. I may just edit it then if the Microsoft page isn't as controversial as I thought.
Sorry SecretLondon that wasn't vandalism I was just trying to indicate that the page Schreyer Honors College Excellence in Teaching Award was itself vandalism. Markcollinsx 12:09, 10 Nov 2003 (UTC)

- I know it wasn't vandalism. I saw no point in keeping the talk page of a deleted article. When you delete an article isn't doesn't delete the talk page - it has to be done separatly. If it had had any other content I would have kept it. Secretlondon 12:33, Nov 10, 2003 (UTC)

Wikimedia UK/Wikimania 2006[edit]
Hi, this is a circular to Wikipedians in Ireland to draw your attention to Wikimedia UK, where the establishment of a local Wikimedia chapter for the United Kingdom (and possibly for the Republic of Ireland) is being discussed. See the talk page, as well as the mailing list; a meetup will take place to discuss matters in London in September, for anyone who can get there. On another topic, plans are being drawn up for a UK bid for Wikimania 2006, which would be conveniently close to Ireland. On the other hand, Dublin's bid was one of the final three last year - might we bid again? --Kwekubo 04:17, 31 August 2005 (UTC)
