Name change[edit]

This institution's name has now changed to Norwich University of the Arts as a result of permission being granted by the Privy Council. I work at the institution and am updating the page to reflect this, as well as updating and adding to the existing information to include new developments on the campus facilities and alumni already listed here. I don't currently have permission to change the article name so if anyone else can it would be much appreciated. Also, although I've done my best to maintain neutrality, as I'm closely linked to the institution the article needs checking for cleanup.Nua marketing (talk) 10:48, 23 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]

I removed "Jamie Durrant, artist and designer" from Notable Alumni since a google search doesn't find the amount if hits I think it would if he really was. Thue | talk 22:14, 20 Mar 2005 (UTC)

[Creator Edit - Can't say I agree. The entire school name plus name of alumnus is a considerable mouthful to be shoehorning into a Google search box, so outcome was never going to be impressive, especially for a more low-profile college like the Norwich School. A quick search for 'Jamie Durrant' I find more than confirms sufficient 'celebrity' status in order to warrant his place on the list. Also consider that the college name may well have differed since his own years spent there... humble art schools do have a habit of shuffling about their monikers. But all the same, its not my business to be stirring up acrimony - so if you see different I'm happy not to protest.]

Norwich School of Art and Design[edit]

Can I suggest putting "Norwich School of Art and Design" somewhere into the initial information about the school, so that it is clear to those familiar with the old name that this is the same institution? --Aristocrates (talk) 00:35, 27 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Further to this, should the former name of "Norfolk Institute of Art and Design" also be included. This would also justify the claim that Jamie Durrant should be on the list of Alumni, as he was a student when the school was under this name, according to his own website. --Aristocrates (talk) 00:41, 27 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I'm unsure about how the history of the name of the Art School is described. I'm looking at my Student's Admission Card for the 1968-1969 Session, commencing 9th September 1968, which is headed "The Norwich School of Art". It looks as if there was a period between being the Norwich School of Design and the 1989 incarnation as NIAD when it was called "The Norwich School of Art". That's certainly what we called it as students there. Any comments? Roaringboy 09:33, 5 February 2019 (UTC) — Preceding unsigned comment added by Roaringboy (talkcontribs)

Norwich Technical Institute[edit]

Wasn't the original name the Norwich Technical Institute, which still appears above the door? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 82.22.206.115 (talk) 09:17, 5 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I can't confirm the exact history of its early names but "Norwich Technical Institute" is indeed carved into the stone lintel above the main entrance of the NUA St Georges Bulding as can be seen on google street view.
