NPOV[edit]

This is a lovely article about one of my favorite places to visit, but we really should neutralize some of the references to, for instance, "tasteful bed and breakfasts" and cute "without being too cute." -- Muffuletta 03:20, 27 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Suggest change "back way" language[edit]

I suggest that in the paragraph that mentions that many people take the "back way" into PG through Monterey, the wording should be modified to say "surface street route of Del Monte Ave to Lighthouse Ave" or something along those lines. Festivals?[edit]

Question about Scope[edit]

Do/should these city pages include information other than raw numbers, such as civic groups, activities, events etc? For instance, there's no mention of the historical significance of PG, the fact that large portions of it are on land reserved by Asilomar State Beach, that flocks (is that the right word?) of butterflys overwinter at George Washington Park on Sinex Ave?

"Residents" who never lived in Pacific Grove[edit]

Having grown up in and around Pacific Grove and served for years as director of local Historical groups I am stunned to read a list of alleged residents of PG - who likely never did live there.

Janis Joplin for instance. She may have stayed a few days during the Monterey Pop Festival, but if she had taken up residence in PG, I'm strongly confident I would have heard about it.

In any case, the burden is not on me or anyone else to disprove any of this. The burden of proof is on those who claim they lived there.

These are the only residents I know of who certainly or probably lived in PG --

Ernest K. Bramblett, politician; Ben Jealous, NAACP president (2008–2013); Gary Kildall, scientist and founder of Digital Research (Lived on Lighthouse Ave); Julia Platt, mayor; Arthur Porges, science fiction writer (Lived at Forest Hill Manor); John Steinbeck, author (Lived on Central Ave); Bill Walsh (American football coach) (Lived on Ocean View Blvd)

The rest should be removed until someone can produce some persuasive evidence of their actual physical residency in PG.

Darrell Huff, author of How to Lie with Statistics should be included as a resident. He and his family lived on Pico, down near Asilomar beach before they moved to Carmel. His daughter was 2 years ahead of me in High School. I see now, Pacific grove was established, in fact, in 1875, and incorporated in 1889. will read more carefully next time.
