Untitled[edit]

It's a start. Available biographies contradict each other, I tried to use the most likely information I could find. Calieber 19:57, 24 Sep 2003 (UTC)

The introduction isn't exactly correct, since he legally adopted the name in 1926.--Janneman 20:39, 16 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

His Work[edit]

The "His Work" section, especially the bit about a "family tree of authors who employed 'black humor' in their works" sounds pretty much like original research / speculation / personal opinion to me. It should be attributed to a critic if it is based on secondary criticism IMO, or a note should be added making the reader aware of the speculative (and possibly inaccurate) nature of the links between these authors. Also the link to Flannery O'Connor should have a footnote. The part about West's work being a response to the Great Depression on the other hand (next section) is really obvious to anyone who has read Day of the Locust and I would rephrase it as "is a response ..." and remove the citation needed tag. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 137.82.21.47 (talk) 18:39, 13 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Nonsensical Revisions[edit]

I was forced to undo a few nonsensical revisions by User:Mmeade7; I will make no assumptions regarding this user's affiliation with Marion Meade, but it may be beneficial to point out that thus far this user has only contributed to two articles - this one and Marion Meade. Here are some of the things I undid, and the reasoning behind it, when necessary:

  • West was born and raised on East 81st street, which is in New York's Upper East Side, not Harlem.
  • Returned info regarding West's college nickname (which he often used to sign his letters) and his sudden return to LA to attend Fitzgerald's funeral, which led to his own death in a traffic accident - I have no idea why these details were removed.
  • Meade's biography of West & his wife should appear, both chronologically and in terms of relevance, after Martin's biography of West.
  • The external link added is to a promotional site for Meade's book and not to "Nathanael West's Website" as had been written previously; the mere fact that the website's name is www.nathanaelwest.com does not make it official.

Nathanael West’s fatal accident[edit]

I believe it was the other driver, a man named Dwight McCutcheon, who ran the red light and caused the car crash that killed Nathanael West and Eileen McKenney. Arthur Vandelay the Marine Biologist (talk) 13:31, 22 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
