Redirect this page to Windows, damn people. I mean damn. Come on.

There's a far more venomous discussion in the Vista redirect. I would say the case for redirecting Vista to Windows Vista is stronger than the case for redirecting XP to Windows XP, since being a two letter acronym, there are more common usages of XP. However, i am very surprised that Athlon XP is listed at the top, not Windows XP, especially since although Athlon XP reportedly means "eXtreme Performance", it's probably was just an attempt to jump on the Windows XP bandwagon.

Why should it redirect to Windows XP when it could redirect to Office XP.91.110.172.127 (talk) 19:31, 7 July 2009 (UTC)

• Oppose - Looks like a good idea in paper. However, there are problems under following criteria:
  • Interests: Windows XP is no longer sold in stores anymore, even with extended supported by Windows. Speaking of extended support, it will end in 2014; Windows XP may still work, but it will no longer be supported. Vista and 7 are concurrent versions still on sale.
  • Usage: April 2008 was biggest; April 2009 lost 25%; April 2010 lost 17%; April 2011 lost 10%; this year's April lost 10%. From 2008 to 2012, it lost almost two-thirds of the April 2008 viewers. Next year may lose more. 2014, which ends support for Windows XP, could be worse.
  • Ambiguity: XP is more ambiguous than it was before; I have recently created XP (Windows) as a redirect to Windows XP. Also, the disambiguation page lost almost 78% of 2008 viewers.
  • Long-term significance: Hmm.... hard to determine, as Microsoft Windows OS is more significant than the XP itself. Many versions come and go, but the OS lives on.... until Bill Gates would retire it for another, like Microsoft Tree?
  • Familiarity: Currently, Windows XP is familiar. However, how will it be familiar in the next five years?

• Support. The OS dominates the results if you google XP -wikipedia. XP is currently the most used operating system. To ask, "will it be familiar in the next five years?" is to look into the WP:CRYSTALBALL. Kauffner (talk) 04:18, 5 May 2012 (UTC)

• Oppose. It is a very partial argument, to claim that any one usage "dominates". A broader and much more important consideration: how are the worldwide readers of a serious encyclopedia helped more: under the existing arrangement (in which all affected articles have adequate precision), or under the proposed arrangement (in which the supposedly most important article of the set lacks adequate precision)? There are 11 articles apart form Windows XP that appear to have some claim on "XP". How is anyone served by the proposed move? How are even those who are aiming for the operating system Windows XP served? They pretty well all know that it is a variant of Windows; and typing "Windows" in as a search on Wikipedia, they get the article they want as a prominently displayed suggestion.
