Cast and Characters[edit]

Greg Grunberg was not an original cast member, he was a guest star in season 1 & 2 and was added as a regular cast member in season 3, whoever changed it needs to get their facts right.. Merlin5793 06:03, 9 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Naw, really?[edit]

"Season One focuses on the development of Sydney's character, and allows the audience to become familiar with her." You have to be kidding me. 2603:6080:EF05:973B:A92C:EA34:1DCE:7D5B (talk) 00:04, 21 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Production & Crew[edit]

i was looking at the Production & Crew section and well who is Michael Haro and why is he even on there? sure he's a Coordinating Producer but where are the others? I know for a fact that he isn't the only Coordinating Producer on the show, so why is he so special? Merlin5793 09:20, 1 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I changed Las Vegas to Las Vegas, Nevada since there is another Las Vegas in the United States located in New Mexico. Merlin5793 09:32, 1 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Spoiler[edit]

Should there be a spoiler warning for the plot summary? Granted, it doesn't reveal that much, but it does spoil parts of the first episode. Also, the character pages have spoilers, especially since I'll update them for season 4 this weekend if nobody objects. -LtNOWIS 02:50, 7 Jan 2005 (UTC)

I don't think it matters. The show was advertised as the character being a double agent for the CIA, so it's really no surprise. K1Bond007 03:15, Jan 7, 2005 (UTC)

Episode names[edit]

What is the source that people are using for Season 4 episode names? Names have not been officially released. Are you using the names leaked through AllAlias.com or are you using some other source for the info? --SecretAgent 02:59, 2 Dec 2004 (UTC)

Alias (television)[edit]

What is the general consensus about this article? Having procreated a separate article for each episode of the television series, each article looks slightly peculiar.
There have been three seasons so far, each season having 22 episodes and each episode has a separate article in Wikipedia, with a premise which gives a resume of the action, as well as the cast of guest actors and their characters, director and writers. Not being seemingly very worldly-wise, am I being paranoic about this? Or am I being a spoilsport if I imagine this being slightly exagerated as a treatment for a television series? Or is it so super a programme that it is absolutely necessary to go into detail with a separated article like that? Am I wrong? Dieter Simon 01:02, 18 Aug 2004 (UTC)

A common thing newcomers seem to like to do is to "make structure" first, in the hope that it can be filled out later. But really wiki grows by refactoring, not by "fleshing out". So I'd say put everything in the series article, including characters, metaplot, actors, and individual episodes in one big article. If the article grows so much (by dint of there being a comitted userbase who have put in the effort of writing decent content for it) then split it into three our four articles (say one main one, and one per season). Only when that solution has outgrown convenience do we really need one article per episode. It's not that more episodes take up more room (they do, but that's trivial), it's that information chopped up into such little bits is too hard for the reader to find. -- Finlay McWalter | Talk 01:13, 18 Aug 2004 (UTC)
I remember asking myself the same question a few months ago. I noticed that the body of the episode articles seemed to be a copyright violation, but I wasn't sure. Can you check into this? If it is, then the articles on individual episodes should probably be deleted, which would solve your problem. Acegikmo1 01:38, 18 Aug 2004 (UTC)
If they were just the paragraph plot summaries, I'd agree merge, but since they have so many other details that are episode-specific (director, writer, guest cast, notes), it would end up being about 130K, which does qualify for breakouts. Even doing one article per season would be over 40K, still well over the recommended 30K limit. For the record, in general, given a choice I would rather have breakout articles for episodes, rather than for every regular and recurring fictional character and object, as I think the episode articles are more encyclopedic, expandable, and comprehensive--they can not only include the things these are starting with, but also ratings, controversies or other notable response to the episode, etc. That being said, Unveiled (Alias episode) and Almost 30 Years (Alias episode) may be copyvios, as they appear to use the same text as several other sites, perhaps from tvtome.com or www.episodelist.com. On the other hand, since tvtome is using it, it may be from a press release, which, by definition, doesn't seem like it could be protected by copyright. If they are copyvios, it gets worse, because Truth be Told (Alias episode) does NOT appear to be a copyvio, so each one would have to be evaluated separately. (this is all based on my scanning those three named articles--if they are not valid samples, please suggest ones that are.)Niteowlneils 02:46, 18 Aug 2004 (UTC)
The episode summaries seem to be the shorter version of ones coming from the guide information released to the press at ABCMediaNet.com SecretAgent 01:55, 24 Nov 2004 (UTC)
I think we should merge all the episodes for Season 4 into a single article with their plots and basic crew. It just seems ridiculous to devote an entire page to small paragraph. K1Bond007 05:21, Jan 25, 2005 (UTC)
I concur, since there doesn't seem to be much work being done on expanding them into full articles. I don't think the episodes should be listed as tv stubs either since IIRC that category is reserved for TV series articles. 23skidoo 06:29, 25 Jan 2005 (UTC)
Done. I merged all of Season 4 into the article Alias episodes (Season 4). I'm probably going to do this to Seasons 1-3 too if no one objects. The original articles have been made into redirects, which I'll probably throw up on RFD sometime in the near future K1Bond007 21:29, Jan 25, 2005 (UTC)
Oops, I never noticed this talk page before. I already did these merges for you — I hope no one objects. I thought having an article per episode was pretty ludicrous, especially considering the amount of redundant contextual information in each one. I don't really know anything about the show though. Deco 22:41, 11 Apr 2005 (UTC)
Thats ok, saved me the effort - I was going to do it anyway. K1Bond007 22:49, Apr 11, 2005 (UTC)

The episode information appears rather brief, like teasers in a TV Guide. I was wondering if it would be worthwhile fleshing out the episode descriptions to include more reminders of what happened in the episode? This would, of course, introduce spoilers but they seem to already be listed in the Character descriptions. Personally, I'm currently watching Series 3 so would be willing to update description as I watch, but I didn't want to change the content without discussing with you folks, since you have created the pages. to date. John Rotenstein 10:11, 11 Apr 2005 (UTC)

Oh sure please do so. The Alias season pages copied Episodes of Lost (Season 1), but just haven't been fleshed out as much yet. K1Bond007 17:28, Apr 11, 2005 (UTC)
I've started doing so -- first one is Season 3, Episode 7. John Rotenstein 12:59, 17 Apr 2005 (UTC)

The Covenant[edit]

There appears to be several references to The Covenant, but this linked article has nothing to do with Alias. It'd be good if somebody could write a simple article on The Covenant (or even a stub) and then we can fix the links to the incorrect page. (I'd do it myself, but I'm only up to Season 3!). John Rotenstein 12:59, 17 Apr 2005 (UTC)

Well they're really only big during Season 3 and even then, not really. I don't know if it really deserves its own page. I'd rather see a page similar in style to Characters of Lost which gives basic info for each faction and etc instead of their own page. Perhaps a "Characters of Alias" or "Characters and organizations from Alias" is needed with links to the already established main characters and factions of the show. Something similar to List of Star Wars planets for reference. K1Bond007 20:15, Apr 17, 2005 (UTC)

Non-production network categories[edit]

I reverted an edit by Postdif that removed Alias from categories involving networks that air the show but did not produce it. I disagree with Postdif's rationale that only production networks should be listed, as there are many examples besides Alias of shows being categorized by broadcast networks (examples include Danger Man, The Avengers, The Prisoner, The Saint (TV series) and others. To my knowledge there is no policy restricting these network categories and to delete them from this article would require corrections to many others. If someone can identify a Wikipedia policy that supports the removal of the categories, then please revert my revert. Otherwise I think we should have a few votes for or against before this change is made. Cheers! 23skidoo 05:09, 19 July 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Honestly, I agree with Postdlf here. It's logical to me that only ABC should really be used as a category because it is produced for ABC. The problem with your side of the argument here is that if you're going to list CTV and Seven, you should also categorize all the others and there are literally dozens of networks to list. K1Bond007 05:25, July 19, 2005 (UTC)
That's fair. I'm just trying to gauge whether or not there is an actual Wikipolicy about this, because if it is considered incorrect to do this, then there are a number of other articles that need to be corrected -- or else someone could just plop the two categories back here again later on. 23skidoo 13:34, 19 July 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Kim Possible[edit]

Does there really need to be that much (or any, for that matter) about Kim Possible here? The note even mentions that the similarities are merely cosmetic. --InShaneee 03:46, 21 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]

  • I say no. I don't think Kim Possible was really inspired by Alias so much as it was more likely inspired by Spy Kids and the like. 23skidoo 15:56, 22 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]

May 2006[edit]

Just to better explain my rationale for removing the May 2006 date from the infobox: Alias is scheduled to end in May 2006, however until May 2006 arrives it's premature to list it as a certainty. For all we know other factors may come into play. There could be a successful "save our show" effort, a cable network could pick it up, its ratings could skyrocket and ABC might change its mind ... or the ratings could bottom out and ABC might decide to pull the show sooner. Or ABC could decide to combine a few episodes and the show might air its last hour in April. It's fine to say ABC has scheduled the show to end in May, but to list it as if it has already happened is a bit too crystal ball. 23skidoo 04:37, 27 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]

There still ought to be mention of it, perhaps? It could be listed as a presumed/scheduled end date. Juansmith 10:36, 21 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Errors in Season 5 Summary[edit]

I don't have time to rewatch the Season 5 eps and figure out the correct numbers, but the summary states that Sydney takes 18 months of maternity leave, and meets up with Rene Rienne "2 years later". Both of these timeframes are quite obviously false, since she's still pregnant when she meets Rene. Juansmith

It was vandalism. It's been fixed now. K1Bond007 08:19, 3 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for taking care of that. Juansmith

Major spoiler in the ABC announcement of the show's return[edit]

Anyone who wants to avoid a major spoiler regarding the last eight episodes is well advised to avoid any press material surrounding the Feb. 28 announcement of the show's return. I just looked at the press release and had a major surprise spoiled for me (thanks, ABC). I guess with the show about to end ABC doesn't seem to care. 23skidoo 13:09, 3 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Updated Information[edit]

I have just updated some stuff. I have tweaked the information about the Alias: Underground game by ABC a bit (it originally said it was an online game, which it's not. It's a downloadable game and is playable offline. No online gameplay is supported. It also said that it "was" available through ABC's site. I changed "was" to "is" because the game is still available through the official Alias ABC website). Also, I added the entire second paragraph of the "Links to Lost" division. If I made any grammatical errors, please do help me out and edit it. (By the way, I am IP # 203.177.238.10 -- I decided to register after realizing that people get credited for contributing information. LOL)

Partial rework of this article[edit]

I read this article as a familiar to the show but unfamiliar to the article. And I think there are a couple things that deserve to be reworked:

  1. All the introduction text regarding the 5th season rescheduled should not be there ! It is so specific !!! Why not having it in the Timeframes sub-division ?
  2. The article needs a better Introduction. Except these above mentionned schedule talk, the introduction is quite empty:

Alias is an American "SpyFi" television series, created by J.J. Abrams. It first aired on September 30, 2001 and stars Jennifer Garner as Sydney Bristow, a CIA agent, usually seen wearing a colorful new disguise undercover on most episodes.

I suggest that it mentions the action, hi-tech, "worldwide", ... aspects of the show. I can try to write a little bit of that, but I'm sure there are here great Alias ' experts that would do better than I could. Lvr 21:10, 28 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

No comment ? Bad idea ? Nobody cares ? Lvr 15:19, 5 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Good idea. There should probably be a section that talks about the impossible hi tech gadgets and hacks that exists in the show... --Disembarkedone 04:51, 24 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Season 6?[edit]

Why are you saying it is season 6? It is still 5, but ABC called it "the final season" probably for promotional purposes. There is no 6.- Puppet125- April 19, 8:38 PM

I concur, that season 6 part should be gone, there is no season 6, it's just the end of 5. Jondy 01:14, 20 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Weird that people would be calling it a 6th season. It was just the fifth season with an unusually long gap in the middle. 23skidoo 04:33, 20 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Mueller device (Big red floating ball)[edit]

I started an article for Mueller device, but it's pretty stubby. Feel free to embellish, since its a central element to the show. Mackerm 20:40, 30 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Added a images of the device from the pilot episode --Disembarkedone 04:50, 24 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

UK: Channel 4?[edit]

I was wondering why 'Channel 4' is added to the end of the list of UK distributers (also without a comma preceding it). Has there been an announcement that C4 will start showing Alias, or is this just an error? Dt7 16:36, 20 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Channel 4 showed Season One originally after it had aired on Sky One, they failed to pick up anymore Seasons which were then bought by Channel 5.

Cleanup[edit]

Now that the series is over, this article as well as its sub-articles really need a good cleanup. Updating tense, better and more concise summaries, are just a couple of things that need attention. K1Bond007 05:19, 23 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Would also be a good idea to remove most ofthe allalias links, as the website seems to be "currently experiencing technical difficulties. We hope to have it back up soon." indefinetly. (ever since I can remember...) --Disembarkedone 04:57, 24 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]
I took a stab at completing the season 5 summary and shortening it. I still think it's too long by about double but I'm not sure how to go about shortening it with any clarity. Feel free to hack away at it. Otto4711 20:40, 29 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]
I've just severely cropped the season 5 summary, among other things on the page. I've tried to restrict the summary to the overall story arcs, rather than going into detail about the events in any one episode - that's best done on the episode summary pages - although I felt the text about the ending of the series should be left. Mike Peel 13:22, 2 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Yeah, I noticed the season 5 summary was huge. Thunderbrand 13:55, 2 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Looks good. I fixed a couple of typos and added a half-sentence about Nadia's death. Otto4711 15:50, 2 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Unresolved storylines[edit]

As the above-recommended clean-up proceeds, I'd also like to suggest an "unresolved storylines" section be added, since there are so many plot threads that were left hanging by the finale (stuff like who the Cardinal was, why Sydney was able to break a so-called unbreakable prophecy, etc.) 23skidoo 15:58, 24 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

maybe we should start listing the unresolved story lines then. I don't think the Cardinal was really suppose to be a big issue anyway as i think it was simply used to explain tom's distraught/depressed state.
Please sign your comments. I disagree regarding the Cardinal. Although it was clearly a "make work" project for Thomas Grace and Rachel Nichols once it was realized the show was ending and the two wouldn't be replacing Vaughn and Sydney, there was still enough build up that I was very disappointed we did not get a resolution. As I mentioned in another forum, it's one thing for a 3-4 year old plot thread to be forgotten, but to skip over something that was introduced only 4-5 episodes ago is kinda sloppy, IMO. That said, I have never seen so many commercial breaks as I saw in the finale episode ... I bet there was one every 4 minutes or so. So to be fair to Abrams it's very possible such a resolution existed but was cut for time. 23skidoo 04:04, 25 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]
I guess we will have to wait for the season 5 dvd release to find out. It also important to note that up until i think the middle of the season there were plans for season 6... and as far as Abrams goes, even though he is the creator and exec producer I have doubts on just how much input he had on the finales. oh and sorry about the no signature. --Disembarkedone 15:48, 25 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]
I read an interview with one of the cast members ... I think Greg Grunberg or possibly Mia Maestro ... that the cast and crew started season 5 assuming it was going to be the last. But the characters of Thomas and Rachel had "spin off" or "continuation" written all over them, so it's possible Abrams didn't expect things to wrap up so quickly. On top of that, as noted, ABC actually cut the final series down by about 5 episodes. That had to hurt the storytelling. 23skidoo 03:12, 4 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Pretty sure it was Michael Vartan who was going around saying that season 5 was going to be the last after the season finale of 4. K1Bond007 03:57, 4 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Jennifer Garner was the one that said that Season 5 would most likely be the last. Merlin5793 08:49, 1 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Distributors[edit]

Now that the series is over, is this list still necessary? 23skidoo 03:12, 4 June 2006 (UTC) most countries have not finished showing the series. phexxa, June 4[reply]

Orignial Intentions[edit]

Is anyone aware of the intentions of the writers/producers if the show hadnt been cancelled? —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 68.73.57.143 (talkcontribs) .

Reportedly (according to Garner and others) everyone expected the 5th season to be the last one, although I don't think Abrams expected the season to be shortened by some 5 episodes which is IMO why a number of threads were left unresolved -- such as Thomas Grace and the Cardinal. What I had heard quite a few times was that the character of Rachel Gibson was introduced as an heir apparent for Sydney since there was some question as to whether Garner would continue with the show full-time after she gave birth. Similarly, Thomas Grace was introduced as a replacement for Michael Vaughn. Whether this was actually the case or not, obviously it became moot when the series was officially cancelled which is probably why Rachel (not so much Grace) really faded into the background at midseason. 23skidoo 13:45, 20 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]
It might be made more clear when the fifth season DVD is released. Right now, it is somewhat confusing as the showrunners weren't completely upfront about all this, but 23skidoo's observations are correct, I believe. --SevereTireDamage 21:14, 20 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]
It sucks that the show was cancelled.--Elatanatari 18:14, 29 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Movie?[edit]

think aobut it J.J. Abrams may be working us over for a movie

Sark was never caught

that hting with isbel (her oyung daughter) puting that puzzle together and any other plot holes i may have forgotten

i tihnk a movie could be done

the movie is a possibility, nothing has official planned though and i don't expect J.J or any of the producers to do a movie any time soon.. Merlin5793 08:52, 1 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Screencap of Season 2[edit]

File:LOL.svg

Hi, I just loved how well this scene has been done and I was wondering if it is possible to put it on the article. I didn't want to put it cause the article seems neat enough for me to mess it up! But you'd probably find a place for it? -- Omernos 08:01, 27 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Omnifam in Lost Experience?[edit]

"In addition, Sloane's Omnifam foundation may be involved in the Lost experience game." Does anyone have a reference on this, or is it just speculation? 216.41.135.32 03:46, 30 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Sacrificing Nadia?[edit]

"With the series' end, it emerges that Sloane's ultimate goal is that of immortality, for which he sacrifices Nadia's life."

"Sacrificing" Nadia sounds like he did it intentionally... he really just accidentally killed her by pushing her into a coffee table.

I don't think he sacrificed her, he did murder her though! the sick thing is he chose some 14 century freak over his daughter Merlin5793 08:57, 1 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Themes[edit]

What part of that section is considered original research since it was tagged? MartinDK 09:19, 12 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Links to Lost section[edit]

The only real link to Lost is the use of Driveshaft music in one episode. That one or more actors who appeared in Alias also appear on Lost is not a "link." All it means is that the show's creator has worked with the actor before and, presumably, thought enough of them to cast the actor again. It's not at all unusual. Greg Grunberg was on Felicity too, because he's been friends with Abrams for decades. Do we need a "Links to Felicity" section too? The article itself already flatly states that most of the speculation about the connections is just that, speculation. The article is already bloated with actual factual information. This section needs to go. Otto4711 15:55, 10 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

i agree, it should go.. the only reason they try and link it to lost is cuz J.J. Abrams is a co-creator and that's wrong.. Merlin5793 00:59, 22 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Super Bowl lead-out box?[edit]

I'm unclear as to what this box is informing us of. What is its purpose? Otto4711 17:32, 14 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

It's noting that in 2003 Alias followed the Super Bowl, and giving the shows that followed the previous and next Super Bowls.

Is that really interesting? Not to me, but maybe to somebody.

Jordan Brown 23:25, 14 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Wow, that really seems...I'll be charitable and say trivial to the point of miniscularity. Otto4711 01:28, 15 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Most original novels for a US series other than Trek?[edit]

The article for The Man from U.N.C.L.E. contained a statement (authored by me) that the two-dozen original novels based upon that series were the most ever published based on an American-produced TV series except for Star Trek. It appears Alias might now hold the record with the 25 novels listed. Does anyone know if any US-produced series (so Doctor Who doesn't count) other than Star Trek that has had more original novels? If not, this is a superlative that's worth noting. 23skidoo 03:24, 7 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

International section[edit]

I'm unclear as to why this sections exists. It does not appear to provide information about the show and other similar sections and articles have been removed. Why keep it? Otto4711 19:04, 27 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Season 5 Inaccuracies?[edit]

Under Season 5, it states 2 new members were added to replace Wiess and Nadia. In the show, no mention or Nadia's replacement is ever made, and Vaughn is the one who was being replaced by Tom (Wiess states that Tom is also his replacement, but no mention of Nadia is made). In addition, Rachel was never a replacement-she was added to APO because of her work for Prophet Five (which she believed was the CIA), and not because APO was lacking people. 67.175.168.17 22:31, 27 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Fast Times[edit]

What? No mention of the shot for shot, move for move, complete recreation of the Phoebe Cates swimming pool scene from Fast Times A Ridgemont High? It's exact, including the Cars Music and the red bikini. I think it was in season 4.....

Alias timeline versus real-life timeline[edit]

The last paragraph in the "Timeframe" section is impossible to follow. I realize some math is necessary in order to determine if, in fact, the two timelines can be reconciled, but surely it can be broken down in a more coherent way. I recommend that this last paragraph be re-written. AMCsoldier 05:07, 19 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

science fiction or not?[edit]

It's mentioned in the article that Alias is sci-fi but it's not part of the Science fiction television series category. Should I put it that category? 218.215.190.3 (talk) 08:02, 7 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Who wants to be a millionaire debacle?[edit]

The article mentions as something of a throwaway line the "Who Wants to be a Millionaire" debacle, without actually explaining what it means. I'm going to edit the article to give this a bit more context; there's no mention of a debacle on the WWtbaM article, so I guess the article is referring to the fact that when WWtbaM's ratings fell, ABC had nothing to put in its place. 72.215.186.165 (talk) 11:44, 16 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Strong Female Character Theme[edit]

I edited the section, fixing the spelling of Renée Rienne, correcting Kelly Peyton's name (not Emily Peyton) and removing Rachel Gibson and in place adding Anna Espinosa. I felt that to keep the list at a reasonable length, Espinosa was a better choice than Reed.

Director? * beside someone’s name?[edit]

Why isn’t there a directed listed for this show? And why is there a * in Sarah Caplan* Robert M. Williams Jr.’s name? Is that their full name? Or is this two different people? Cool879 (talk) 12:56, 10 February 2020 (UTC)[reply]

I meant to ask, why isn’t there a director? Can’t find the option to edit it so commenting here to correct myself. Cool879 (talk) 12:57, 10 February 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Michael Vaughn Main Character Page?[edit]

Why is there not an existing Michael Vaughn character page and a link to it from this page? At the least, a link should connect to his character page from the Michael Vaughn page with the two real life Michael Vaughn links, instead of pointing back to the Alias TV show page. The character appeared in 99 episodes. A few characters who appeared in fewer episodes have their own pages. I'm brand new. I'm not going to be able to do it anytime soon. - GivMeCoffee28 GivMeCoffee28 (talk) 04:56, 29 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]

There is an article Michael Vaughn (Alias) which was redirected to this article without discussion. I've reverted that redirect so you can edit that article. — Manticore 08:33, 1 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]
