I removed the reference about the song being altered for use in military cadence to avoid copyright infringement, because it didn't make any sense to me. I was in Cuba for Christmas, so I did not have a tree - except for a blinking plastic one the family I stayed with got from expatriates in Spain. But I did have about 25°C more than I usually have for Christmas, and I prefer Latino rhythms to German Christmas music.
I have already passed all exams, the final one was about law because I thought with war criminals in the government of many western countries I should find out how to reach more justice. Only the thesis is left over. I am planning to write about international trade in services.

Vandalism[edit]

You are entitled to disagree with my edits and to not be persuaded by the arguments I put in edit summaries, but I did not vandalise Template:In the news and do not appreciate being accused of doing so. Neither do I appreciate being threatened with a block. If you want to discuss what should be on that template (ie template policy), my understanding is that you should do so on the template's talk page rather than impose your views on others by threatening to ban those you disagree with.

subway map[edit]

I was somewhat torn on the ex-LIRR Rockaway Line, but decided that I'd show it under the division it was taken into. Though, thinking about it a bit more, I think I will make it black. I'm doing the same for the Dyre Ave line. Same for the Fulton Street Line east of Rockaway Ave (with the ex-BMT part yellow). And the IND Queens Blvd east of 169th.

By the way, I'm currently working on a map of the IND Second System, as well as more details for that article. --SPUI 20:40, 24 Jan 2005 (UTC)

I'm using Macromedia Freehand (similar to Illustrator), tracing the lines on USGS topos. I just incorporated the changes you suggested; the new version is up. As for details, this map is intended to be a general map - I may do a more detailed one (sort of like Image:SEPTA map.png) if I have the inclination, though I'll have to figure out how to show downtown legibly while keeping a decent size. --SPUI 22:06, 24 Jan 2005 (UTC)

Are you sure that the north end of the A-C is called the Washington Heights Line? A Google search for that name gives three results, one of which is Wikipedia. Other sources seem to indicate the 8th Ave going all the way to 207th. --SPUI 19:26, 25 Jan 2005 (UTC)

    • Smith Street Line? - Manhattan? to Ditmas This line is a little problematic. It has been called the Smith Street Line, but the name used consistently in maps and signage was "Brooklyn Line." (The R1/9 destinations said "Brooklyn-Smith-9th Sts." and "Brooklyn-Church Avenue). Then in 1954 it whole line was shown as the "Coney Island Line" on Hagstrom Maps (more definitive on those nit-picks than most. Lately though, the TA has taken to calling the entire line "Culver Line." For example, the 2000-2004 line item budget shows Church/MacDonald station as being CUL (Culver). I would still call it "Brooklyn Line" but MTA seems to think different.

Do the A-C and F north of Smith-Schermerhorn have separate names? Is the rest of the list correct? --SPUI 20:36, 25 Jan 2005 (UTC)

Thanks a lot for the info. How sure are you about the 60th Street Tunnel Connection name? The only google results are Wikipedia clones. As for key junctions, I'll probably save that for a different map; this one is getting rather cluttered. The routes can already be followed (except for locating their termini) with the line descriptions at New York Subway#Subway routes; I'll probably make another map with only the routes and terminal stations. --SPUI 01:12, 26 Jan 2005 (UTC)

42nd Street Shuttle[edit]

I put it at S 42nd (New York Subway) because none of the other routes (except the other shuttles) have anything other than the number/letter and (New York Subway), and 42nd is enough to disambiguate it. I have no real problems with the move, except that I think it should be at S 42nd Street Shuttle (New York Subway). The official map, and probably the schedules, never use suffixes on the numbered streets, but all the articles here do, as does common usage (you say "forty-second street", not "forty-two street"). --SPUI 23:32, 27 Jan 2005 (UTC)

There's been quite a bit of discussion about how to name subway-related things on Wikipedia talk:WikiProject New York City. We "decided" (whatever that means in an anarchy) that we would use the suffix (i.e. 42nd instead of 42) in article titles. NYC Subway Table[edit]

Hey, I really wanted to thank you for cleaning up the table, however I have a few concerns, namely I feel that the table is WAY TOO BIG now as it stands. Do you have any ideas how we can reduce the amount of space it takes up? I tried deleting the space in between all of the different routes, but that makes the information kind of clunky looking. 53rd Street Line[edit]

Unfortunately, the reference to the 53rd street line doesn't use a standard code; it could be that the whole thing is QBL but the Manhattan part is colloquially the 53rd Street Line. I've found several clear mentions of QBL going through Lexington and the 53rd Street Tube, which is the same section labeled as '53 St Ln'. Note that the same document uses 'Smith St Ln' on the next row, which we've determined is now CUL. It also refers to the 'Prospect Pk Line' - that looks like yet another name for part of CUL. It may be that whoever put together that table was using older documents. --SPUI 02:49, 30 Jan 2005 (UTC)

"Prospect Park Line" referred to the currently non-revenue express tracks that take a shortcut under the NW part of Prospect Park. Does it seem like that's the area they're talking about? I agree with you on 53rd, barring clearer evidence.

Believe it or not: "14th Street Tunnel." Not very imaginative, huh? Originally, the lines that now constitute the Canarsie Line were (Manhattan) the 14th Street Line (Brooklyn) the Eastern District Line ("Eastern District" is what Brooklyn City called Williamsburg after they took it over) up to Broadway Junction, and then Canarsie Line. BTW, are you aware that all the stations at Broadway Junction are now called "Broadway Junction," even the IND? They're actually changing the tiles in what was B'way-ENY to read Broadway Junction. LIRR connection[edit]

Sorry about that - I had made a logical leap that was apparently false. Can you change that part to what actually happened? By the way, what do you mean by "a branch near the Canarsie Line to serve new industrial buildings"? The LIRR Bay Ridge Branch is from the time of the original Canarsie Line; a railroad ran from Bay Ridge to the Canarsie Line at New Lots, and needed somewhere to go once the line was elevated. The bottom of [1] has the information on that. Do you know why the connection was built c. 1970? --SPUI 09:38, 30 Jan 2005 (UTC)

Liberty Ave El[edit]

According to [2], the Liberty Ave El went west to the Canarsie Line. I'm partially changing Canarsie Line#Extent and service back to reflect that. Oh, and I would definitely get a copy of the track map book if I was in the NYC area.
