Untitled[edit]

Was Captain Atom realy voiced by American politician Charles Christopher Cox in the episode "The Greatest Story Never Told"? The link seems to suggest so

No it isn't. Chris Cox to whom it refers is a cartoon and video game voice artist. I'll see what I can do. --Jason Kirk 05:48, 8 Jun 2005 (UTC)

The DC/Wildstorm offical synopsis of CAPTAIN ATOM: ARMAGEDDON #7 says: Captain Atom uses his draining power to look into the future.

Could someone who knows a bit more tell me the details of this?

Suggestions to add/edit[edit]

What, nothing about Identity Crisis? Needs to be added. Also, why have a spoiler warning in the middle when you've already revealed the info in the introduction? User:Dyslexic agnostic 22:00, 21 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]

I propose we make a separate article about the revamped Captain Atom. That one is way different.Brian Boru is awesome 16:15, 16 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Yes Lets make one then!

What about the Hanna-Barbara cartoon character Atom Ant, who was created around the same time (early 1960s) and has the same battle cry? "Up and at'em, Atom Ant!" "Up and at'em, Captain Atom!"

"scientist Allen Adam in the Charlton version, Air Force pilot Nathaniel Adam in the DC version)" Not sure the source of this, but its incorrect. From day one, Captain Atom was really Air Force Captain Adam. AFAIK, the first name of Allen was given in only 1 of the short Charlton comics. Most never gave his first name, and when they did again it was Nathaniel. So this needs to be fixed. ---emb021 —Preceding unsigned comment added by 136.182.158.153 (talk) 21:06, 5 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Powers[edit]

The powers section was sorely lacking. It made it seem that he could only shoot energy blasts. I have updated it.

Merger[edit]

This is rather ridicilious in my opinion. There's no need for a split page, and there's more relevant info in this page than there is the other one. Kusonaga 13:14, 2 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Survey[edit]

Discussion[edit]

It should not be merged. The top half of Captain Atom is about Charlton One. No merge --Brian Boru is awesome 21:57, 5 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

So? Nightshade (comics) has it the normal way too. Same as Blue Beetle (Ted Kord), Peacemaker (comics), Judomaster, Peter Cannon, Thunderbolt. There is not enough information to warrant a splitting of the page. Fundamentally anyway, the two are the same character, and elements from the Charlton comics are still referenced (such as the relationship between Nightshade and Cap). Kusonaga 06:38, 6 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Kusonaga is right. This is about the same character. —Lesfer (talk/@) 22:51, 6 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]
There's already a precedent here, including the Charlton version with the DC version on the same page. The modern version is the same basic character, as opposed to, say, Hal Jordan and Alan Scott who deserve separate pages. HalJor 23:54, 6 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Good point ;) —Lesfer (talk/@) 14:28, 7 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Donjgfgccfgce[edit]

I read both articles and found that, with the exception of the History and "Project Atom" introduction, virtually everything in the "Modern Age" article was verbatim in the regular "Captain Atom" article already. I merged this fresh text from the "Modern Age" into here and did some general clean-up. I'm sure it can be improved further, but at least everything is ghkccccccccccffrdrjfcvg--68.34.113.247 (talk) 21:17, 17 December 2021 (UTC)--68.34.113.247 (talk) 21:17, 17 December 2021 (UTC)--68.34.113.247 (talk) 21:17, 17 December 2021 (UTC)--68.34.113.247 (talk) 21:17, 17 December 2021 (UTC)--68.34.113.247 (talk) 21:17, 17 December 2021 (UTC)--68.34.113.247 (talk) 21:17, 17 December 2021 (UTC)--68.34.113.247 (talk) 21:17, 17 December 2021 (UTC)--68.34.113.247 (talk) 21:17, 17 December 2021 (UTC)--68.34.113.247 (talk) 21:17, 17 December 2021 (UTC)--68.34.113.247 (talk) 21:17, 17 December 2021 (UTC)--68.34.113.247 (talk) 21:17, 17 December 2021 (UTC)--68.34.113.247 (talk) 21:17, 17 December 2021 (UTC)--68.34.113.247 (talk) 21:17, 17 December 2021 (UTC)--68.34.113.247 (talk) 21:17, 17 December 2021 (UTC)--68.34.113.247 (talk) 21:17, 17 December 2021 (UTC)--68.34.113.247 (talk) 21:17, 17 December 2021 (UTC)--68.34.113.247 (talk) 21:17, 17 December 2021 (UTC)--68.34.113.247 (talk) 21:17, 17 December 2021 (UTC)--68.34.113.247 (talk) 21:17, 17 December 2021 (UTC)--68.34.113.247 (talk) 21:17, 17 December 2021 (UTC)--68.34.113.247 (talk) 21:17, 17 December 2021 (UTC) on the same page now. Oh, I also edited the articles that linked to the "Modern Age" article. Actually, there was only one: Monarch (comics) -- so the "Modern Age" article was nearly lost anyway. HalJor 03:47, 19 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks, mate. I totally forgot this as I went away for a weekend. Good job. Kusonaga 10:01, 21 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Bombshell[edit]

In the Teen Titans comics they introduced a character named "Bombshell" who claims to have the same powers. But she's not mentioned at all here..--Marhawkman 15:49, 13 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Captain Atom II's Hair[edit]

I remember in early stories Captain Atom's hair was longer, but it's shorter nowadays. How? Did he "cut" it or what? Bluecatcinema 09:31, 19 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Okay, I'm confused...[edit]

In Infinite Crisis #7 Captain Atom returned after Breach was blown up by Superboy-Prime. But in Battle For Bludhaven It is stated that he returned right after the Chemo disaster. Which is it? Bluecatcinema 10:36, 22 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Refutation of Original Research Charge[edit]

The sentence "Captain Atom's powers were similar to such other nuclear-powered superheroes as Gold Key's Doctor Solar and Dell Comics' Nukla. ..." gets an "original research?" tag. Considering that Wikipedia's own Nukla page shows not only very similar powers but the exact same origin as the Charlton Captain Atom, and that Doctor Solar has nuclear-based powers derived from a massive dose of radiation (thus sharing a few points of both origin and power with Captain Atom), I move that the "original research?" tag be stricken. Not only can the data in question be verified, but it's already right here on Wikipedia, with bibliographic citations and everything. There's also the small matter that WP:NOR criteria also require that the passage cited as such be the basis for opinion. The statement is that Captain Atom has powers similar to those of two other superheroes who in fact do have powers similar to his. Nukla's, in fact, are almost identical, and so is his origin. QED. In fact, I also move that Watchmen's Dr. Manhattan be added to the passage, since he too has nuclear energy-oriented powers obtained as the result of a catastrophic radiation incident. P.F. Mass Murderer[edit]

I had removed mass murderer earlier, as the destruction or Earth-51 was in the context of the Captain's containment suit rupturing. Though the death of the planet was high in magnitude, it does not appear that it was intentionally brought upon by the Captain, merely collatoral damage due to the battle. An unfortunate circumstance, but I do not believe that meets the criteria for mass murder. -66.109.248.114 (talk) 21:26, 6 March 2008 (UTC).[reply]

Except that's not the reason he's a mass murderers - in the area mini-series (issue 2), he kills everyone living on the earth-12 (I think it's earth 12, I'd have to check) version of America simply because that's earth's version of night-shade tries to leave the area. It's not in battle, it's not because his suit ruptures - it's because he decides to kill them all. That makes him a mass-murderer. --Fredrick day (talk) 21:52, 6 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Nice note, I stand corrected, thanks for clarifying. -66.109.248.114 (talk) 23:02, 6 March 2008 (UTC).[reply]

No problem, it's tricky keeping this stuff straight - especially when the writing sucks as much as it currently does at DC! --Fredrick day (talk) 23:11, 6 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Recently, I read through the series. Nightshades family dies in issue #1, a note is that he feels death between multiversal versions as that of suicide or "fading away of shadows." I interpret this as Monarch/Atom feeling the deaths while caring an emotional weight on the heroes, has no lasting implication, as those persons are still alive in the multiverse. This is really sematics, but I'm interested to to see what other editors feel whether this has any affect on the mass murderer label. Personally, I'm rather drawn, and some consesnus of interpretation he might help to guide editorially the Countdown/OYL section. -66.109.248.114 (talk) 22:10, 8 March 2008 (UTC).[reply]

Infobox edits[edit]

While it is probably best that the infobox was swapped out for {{Infobox comics character and title}}, there are some problems with the change.

  1. The character image: File:Cap atom v2 01.jpg misses almost all of WP:CMOS#BOXIMAGE. This including swapping the "new" costume for the more recognized one.
  2. Setting up the auto catting.
  3. Generally we don't split and identify things by "re-boot" in the infobox.
  4. Splits are normally delineated by character name.
  5. Powers... wow... "Keep it short" is best. If it can't be, then "See: Powers and abilities" with link is appropriate.
  6. Volumes are an issues since the numbering tends to follow the title regardless of publisher. Volume 1 was a run published by Nation-Wide Publishing in 1950-1951 even though it featured a different character. Volume 2 was the Charlton run from 1965-1967. And the DC runs are volumes 3 and 4.
