Misc[edit]

OntarioQuizzer: Re-inserted reference to coffee, dropped Timmy Ho's. Usage is prevalent in Canada and needs inclusion. Many people regularly purchase double-double coffees and do not know it in a basketball context. Further, other restaurants also call their double hamburgers a "double-double" other than In-and-out, including the "White Spot" chain, so that line should then be dropped by the same measure as you dropped mine with the Tim Hortons ref. - anon 19:56, 11 March 2007

re: Canadian slang??? Every street corner coffee vendor in New York knew what a double double was back in the 70's... these days, the term seems to have fallen out of popular use -- probably a starbucks influence -- who would buy a coffee from a street corner shop anyway!?!?

You may be right; however, it is still incredibly prevalent north of the border. --OntarioQuizzer 21:04, 7 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Tim Horton's rules in Canada.

I guess Timmy's has got New York beat. Tim Horton's has been around since 1964.

most double-doubles?[edit]

Does anybody know who has the most double-doubles? That wouldn't be Robertson too, would it? Jason Kidd is probably a good threat, as are both Russell and Chamberlain.

quadruple double-double[edit]

wow really a 40-40 game? is there a reference to that?

Yes — you can cross reference lists such as those at [1] and [2] which is essentially what I did to discover both games. If you are interested in performing some research on your own, you can try looking at games in which Wilt Chamberlain scored 40-49 points and matching those up against his 40+ rebound games. There may be more quadruple-double-doubles (40-40s) which are not yet known (the trick is to find the list of 40-49 point games — you may be forced to dig through old newspaper box scores, which is what I did to determine that Chamberlain's 55-rebound game was not a quadruple-double-double (before my "research", I had thought there was an outside chance it was a quintuple-double-double)). Just so you know, Bill Russell's regular season career high in points is 37, so he needn't be considered in any search for quadruple-double-doubles. If anyone finds additional quadruple-double-doubles, please let me know by leaving a message on my talk page. I'm interested in these types of trivia and would like to encourage others to pariticpate in such investigations. Myasuda 13:24, 27 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

five-by-five[edit]

We have double-double, triple double, quadruple article. Somebody should make one for 'five-by-five'.

other meanings[edit]

Even though I am Canadian. Why not move the two italisized alternative meanings to the bottom of the page with a new heading called "Other Usages" or something to that effect.

I agree[edit]

It's dumb that lesser used terms get first billing.

Basketball pages in general but double-double certainly included[edit]

So, this page is entitled double-double and is supposed to be about basketball double-doubles. But, the only info included is that about NBA basketball. Another section on college basketball might be nice as well. It probably wouldn't be big but could include a few records such as most double-doubles in a season by a player (and also career) and highest double double (most each of two stats recorded in a game).

Then, the same thing could be applied for triple doubles. I am pretty sure the college record for a season is only 3 or 4 so it's pretty interesting.

double-double straight[edit]

Who has most consecutive double-doubles on NBA? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 217.198.232.75 (talk) 10:08, 13 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I don't know, but it might be a worthwhile addition to this article. And not just NBA, but WNBA and men's & women's college basketball. And maybe any international records.↔NMajdantalk 04:09, 16 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Revision[edit]

O' Neal does not have 687 double doubles. According to ESPN as of January 14, 2009 he has 632 career double doubles. Kevin Garnett has 653 DDs as of this date as well. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 67.174.102.199 (talk) 03:38, 15 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]
